I know that lots of people don't think much of Metallic Mimic in Merfolk, but I like it. If you have any, I'd add them in. If not, I wouldn't bother since they'll rotate soon.
I think you are too spell heavy. Modern merfolk, might only run, 7-9 non merfolk cards, and 4 of them are Aether vial. Move to four Kumena's speaker. He is best one drop you have, and I would add in jungle born pioneer. Her effect stacking on deep root elite is awesome. Lastly, I would include river sneak over vineshaper mystic. You don't get spreading seas or islandwalk in standard, but this little guy is a house, and you will always be attacking for an unblockable 3 damage (four if you play jungle born pioneer).
I would move the counter magic and bounce spells to the sideboard.

and oddly enough there are no flyers in here. So need something to combat flyers come rotation. Maybe [card]Plummet[/card}
Adept replaces itself in you hand which is always nice in a fast aggro deck. Kopala is probably redundant (and slow) with Dive Down/counters. I like Jadelight in a deck trying to abuse Hadana's Climb and other counter based strategies, but keep in mind, the higher the curve, the slower the deck. Jade Guardian doesnt do enough for its cost imo. If youre trying to go the +1/+1 counter route and want a 4 drop, Herald of the Secret Streams would be better imo, but I still think its too slow.

I'm not a big fan of Plummet but this is a meta call. I mainboarded it for a time and realized about half my games involved ZERO flyers. So I sideboarded it then realized I have other cards I can use to deal with flyers. I've had to stare down Ghalta, Primal Hunger with Plummet as my only removal.
I think if you have other methods of counter and removal, the Plummet is fine as a sideboard to stretch out your limited spells. We'll see how it goes with GRN so I could very well change my mind about Plummet once the whole list is released. IDK, YMMV.
@Decepticon
Hmm well it's more of a midrange answer but to each his own. Besides I get its more of I want to squeeze 3 to 4 guys out and swing for 10-15 damage and win the game which works.
@SavannahLion
And Plummet yea that should be sideboard.

Thx everyone for the input.
I’ll move kumena up to 4 since it’s sort of the win con. I understand it’s a big investment, but my meta is slow.
As for Jace, it’s my personal tech and it works.
As for flyers, my meta doesn’t have many and hadana climb works. I’m thinking of getting 2 Vivien from the set in the side. It deals with lots of things
When breeding Pool is reprinted, I’ll put it in. I already have 2 in my modern deck.
I’ve been testing the 0+3 spell and I’m liking it since me meta likes to target my stuff.
As for Kopala, it stops activated abilities, boy triggered like chainwhirler. For that I’m running trickster
Silvergill adept, is a must. Merfolk relies on swarming, and the adept gives you another body, and another card. Merfolk Branchwalker is essentially a diet version of the adept, granting you a card, or at least some deck filtering. Lastly, I really like Tempest Caller as a late game finisher/win condition.
A very powerful strategy for this deck is Curious Obsession with Dive Down protection and certain unblockable Merfolk attackers. Pump up those little guys and draw like mad.

@ decepticon - why not run kumena, the big reason to run the deck?
Kumena isnt a bad card, but its on the slow side and requires a significant board investment.
I would move the counter magic and bounce spells to the sideboard.
I think Decepticon hit this right on the head. Even though there are a few cards that do rotate but that really isn't a big issue as he said.
Blossoming defense can be swapped for dive down
unsummon for blink of an eye/syncopate or it will get a reprint
Shock land replaces the old checkland
Kopala, Warden of Waves or Jace, Cunning Castaway I think may be able to go in.
I don't like Silvergill Adept
Jadelight Ranger can always replace Merfolk Branchwalker
There is also Jade Guardian which is hexproof.

I cannot recommend the river sneak enough.
