I play magic only about two weeks and still don't know how to build my own deck. I bought Vehicle Rush challenger deck (https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/feature/challenger-decks-lists-2018-02-23#vehicle_rush). With help of local mages, we made some upgrades with cards, which I had. And, for now, I'm always beaten by Hazoret aggro, u/w control with Gideon, complete vehicle rushes with Gideon/Chandra and Hazoret.
I know. I should buy Chandra, Hazoret, Gideon, and more dual lands. But they're too expensive. I could buy them one by one within a few months, but they'll be rotated this autumn. So I can't spend money for them.
Could you suggest me good upgrades from Dominaria/Ixalan? I'll be happy, if I can lose 2:1 instead of 2:0.
What about sideboard? I know the reason, why these cards in my sideboard (Dures vs control, chandra defeat vs hazoret aggro, etc), but it's always a problem, when I'm thinking which cards should I replace in my main deck to put there new cards from the sideboard.
As a general rule of thumb, I'd try to avoid planeswalker deck cards (they're designed to not be very competitive). None of those are really worth taking out another card from the Vehicles list, in my opinion. I took a look through the cards in Standard and here's the ones I think are playable and cheap:
Teshar, Ancestor's Apostle turns all of your artifact creatures and vehicles into reanimation spells. Currently like two bucks on channelfireball.
Fungal Infection is great if you see a lot of 2/1 creatures like Branchwalker, and it's a common in a set people are currently drafting so it should be dirt cheap.
Seal Away is great removal that hits every annoying creature in the format. Also about two bucks.
Zahid, Djinn of the Lamp is super spicy because it's not in Mardu colors, and likely shouldn't be played due to mana constraints, but you have a lot of artifacts and can cast it off Aether Hub and Spire of Industry.
You have to buy the dual lands or the deck is not good enough, even for friday night magic. The only option i can think of is go all artificers or all dwarves for unclaimed territories to work properly. A hard lesson for me to learn is that the mana base comes first. Afast deck can't be hindered by tap lands.
