Just an FYI for anyone who is too new to the singles market to understand what is going on, this is basically what a set looks like when it is hyped on steroids. Whatever you do, if you can help it do not buy the chase cards in Dominaria yet. The set is going to need about a month to get under control and the prices on the high end are as high as they are going to ever be right now and provably so.
For those interested in this, take a look at Gideon, Ally of Zendikar, who is the poster child of what happens to even a 4x good card in standard when the set is like a RTR mega hit.
Specifically, look at the price going from release of BFZ to Kaladesh release. That was a card that saw 4x play and was insanely powerful during it's run. It literally lost 50% of it's value and only recovered to 75% of it's peak at the release of Kaladesh and Mardu Vehicles. Lyra Dawnbringer, History of Benalia, and Teferi, Hero of Dominaria are all being powered by pure hype for the set and Teferi is only a 2x card in a lot of cases. If you can keep your emotions in check and zone out for a month or two, the prices are going to go down.
If you want to play the latest hotness, though, feel free to fire away. Just want to make sure people aren't doing anything silly thinking those cards are going to be like 60 dollar cards or something. Even karn, scion of Urza and Mox Amber aren't going to get above 40 dollars long term while this set is still in print.
1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
Karn, Scion of Urza has a huge chance of seeing play in eternal formats so his price won't go down that easilly. The others you are right, those cards standard only cards and will drop heavilly some other time. Archangel Avacyn and Dragonlord Ojutai had bigger price drops compared to Gideon.

It's still up in the air how fast Teferi is going to fall after he peaks, though. Right now he showed up in a modern challenge deck and then also showed up in multiple control listings along with Lyra. I can't imagine him settling at more than 15 long term unless control goes out of control.

35+ for standard cards is freaking ridiculous.
I understand hype but people haven't been playing standard for a while now. Is this the result of lower point of sales turnover?
I know people test the water when a new set hits but at those prices?
I'd rather not play, which hasn't been the choice but the trend lately as FNMs don't fire consistently even in high volume LGS.
Right now the prices are high because of the supply not meeting demand. I believe the next run of the set is due in 20-25 days and will be 3x the size of the release run, so prices are going to plummet hardcore. It's also coming with a massive restock of challenger decks. The main reason the prices are so high is due to UW Historic being the hot deck of the week, and it uses some of the most powerful cards in dominaria exclusively. We're talking Lyra Dawnbringer, Teferi, Hero of Dominaria, and History of Benalia. Raff Capashen isn't exactly the magical christmas land people thought he was. Instant speed walking ballista and playing history of benalia on the end step of an opponents turn is really brutal.

It's the typical first week spike. Most of the cards will go down a bit but I think Karn will settle around the low to mid $30s as the premier chase mythic.
Quick update: It sounds like the next run is coming sooner than I had stated prior. Now the big question is... will these boxes have the same weirdness the release run had.
Case in point, check your land packs because someone got a horrible pack of misprinted basic lands that actually is pretty rare. I think the lands were going for 20-30 usd on the starting bid.

Aside from the super-chase cards (Karn, Teferi, etc) I think a lot of cards in Dominaria have a chance to steadily increase over time because many of them have value outside of standard (looking specifically at EDH).
Also, kind of a random side note but I heavily regret not buying The Scarab God when he was like 7$. I do not play standard aside from the Prerelease and Casual, but I really needed one for my Black Blue Zombie Tribal EDH deck. Now I refuse to pay that 40$ price tag for it because I know it is so heavily inflated due to its standard play. I'm really praying it drops significantly after it rotates...

The Scarab God will certainly plummet quite heavily in value after rotation. Right now, it's arguably the most powerful card in Standard (that doesn't rely on specific synergies) and the center piece for at least 3 competitive decks (Dimir Control / Grixis Control, Dimir Midrange and Sultai Midrange / Sultai Constrictor).
I would wager that The Scarab God will eventually drop to roughly 10 bucks after rotation, maybe even lower since there is 0 demand for the card on older (non-casual) formats.
There's quite a demand for it in EDH, but I don't think it would hold value, but I think it's correct that it will hang around $10.
I can't agree it's still the best card in standard though, now that UBx decks have completely gave way to UWx. Teferi and Lyra are clearly the best cards now.
Honestly, no one should be paying the hyper inflated prices on the secondary market right now. Just take your emotions into the back yard and put them out of their misery with the double barrel shotgun. The prices are going to nose dive, the cards are at the highest they will ever be in standard at this moment, do not buy Lyra, Benalias, Karns, Teferi, anything that has the lime light shining on it. I know it's a lot to ask, but give it about 2-3 weeks and Battlebond + Commander Anthology will take pressure off this set along with the second wave of booster box openings.
