There are a number of threads on whether people would want to play Brawl, or I guess more about buying into a particular way of playing the game. Having a rotating format, where your cards and in fact decks become obsolete after a time.
I know a lot of people have been saying that WoTC are just pushing it because standard sales are down, and I think this is 100% true. But I'm not sure why people would begrudge them this, when part of their business is sales.
I could see merit if you like to buy boosters, or just like to keep up with the standard environment, that you'd have a lot of single cards that you could build a Brawl deck with, that otherwise might not get used. Sure you would have to trade or buy to get a portion of your deck, but if you get to have an alternative multiplayer option, that would seem good, right?
I'm not someone who buys boosters or boxes (I have been known to draft on occasion though), but I'm interested in playing Brawl. I like commander, but hate that every deck has the same 5 or 6 artifacts, so it'll be nice to play a version that isn't built around whether you draw your Sol Ring and your Opponents don't.
I would prefer a format wherein you had 20 life, 60 singleton cards, and either a planeswalker as general or a legendary creature (not both). It needs more streamlining, probably. I doubt WOTC playtested it and fear the format will be dominated by two or three decks at most.
What's wrong with being able to choose between either a planeswalker or a legendary creature? That literally just adds diversity.
Also we know for a fact they playtested it lol, did you read the post about Brawl? It was one of the most popular test formats amongst wizards employees that they've ever tried out.
Speaking for myself, I like playing the game. I don't like the politics of multiplayer. I could really enjoy building a singleton standard deck, but having to deal with multiplayer ...
If I had a group of friends that were into it, I could see building a deck. But given a choice, I would rather lose 1v1 with my bad modern deck if I can't play or test standard.
I made a brawl deck. Wasn't crazy about the format. It just seems too gimmicky to me. If other people dig it, that's all right by me. I might make another Brawl deck in the future but I'd probably play my constructed Unstable deck more.
So far, that's gonna be a no from me, dawg. Once the Gods rotate out, I'm probably gonna be more jazzed, but right now, I don't feel like playing aginst 5 Scarab Gods in the swiss.
Zacama seems more popular than The Scarab God so far.
More broadly, it seems fine. I'm always down for a new format that doesn't make me pore through my boxes for my old cards lol. The majority of my time will be played in Standard, but I'm sure to have a Brawl deck or two.
I think the part of brawl that interests me is that it will help cards that might not shine otherwise have a chance to shine. it also allows you to use random singletons in your collection
I don't really think of brawl as a format that you "want" to play, but rather something you just do until you get enough cards to actually play standard. I've already seen how the game plays and am not really impressed with the format outside of it being a quick evening thing.

1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
I think Brawl is newbie friendly. It's very casual. If you don't have the cash to get a full playset of a good/chase rare, then this format will do. (Plus, it helps a lot that right now we can find some really cheap legendary creatures)
We tried a 1v1 Brawl tourney. It was pretty much a wild, wild west scenario.
