r1 vs elves, 2-1.
SB +4 gut shot, +2 disenchant. -4 bonesplitter, -2 gliders.
g1, i took control w/multiple zealot il-vec killing his 1 toughness army.
g2, he got Spidersilk Armor. that ended my zealot lock.
g3, similar to g1.
r2 vs affinity, 2-0.
SB +2 disenchant, +1 amrou, +1 law, +1 thermal. -4 bonesplitter, -1 nightwind.
g1, i played defense to survive the early threats. bound in silence fetching was good vs his 4/4’s.
g2, he applied little pressure while my engine got going. thermals and the law were good vs his Atogs.
r3 vs URfae, 2-0.
SB +1 amrou (vs counters), +1 thermal. -1 bonesplitter, -1 nightwind.
g1, i resolved an early searcher. fetched a second searcher for removal insurance. then blocked flipped delvers w/riftwatchers (gain 4 life + trade!)
g2, i out attrition’d him by having more searchers (15 total) than he had counters/removal. i even ran out of fliers to find (he revealed a red earthquake-type board wipe off Augur of Bolas) so i elected to "fail to find" instead of thinning my last ground guys out.
conclusion - the other 3-0 player (1st place) ran burn. going forward, i would -4 bojuka bog and +4 Radiant Fountain.
- w/out bonesplitter, all games go long. prepare for having no downtime between rounds.
Cool deck! It's nice to occasionally see rebels making an appearance in Pauper.
I'm surprised that you aren't splashing any colours. Especially with 4 Bojuka Bogs, splashing black for Blightspeaker andRathi Trapper, which are both quite good.
People also splash Blue to play a more traditional Rebel "draw-go" gameplan, which is quite effective in pauper. Condescend, Mana Leak, Counterspell... Seems like a great thing to do while holding up instant speed fetch for board presence.
Thanks for sharing your list. I have been beaten and at times frustrated by an opponent's Rebels deck, it has some chops.
Quick reccomendation if I may. I don't see anything that could deal with the Protection from Monocolor of Guardian of the Guildpact. Could be a meta call I suppose. I see the card quite a bit in mine. Would Unmake be a possible +2 in your sideboard for this card/deck? Also what is the plan versus Bogles? Maybe a +2 Celestial Flare in the side as well? Or maybe a couple of Patrician's Scorn even though it could affect the Faith's Fetters. Just a couple of thoughts. Good luck.
PS: Holy Light can be a good side vs. goblins/elves/ non-white weenies.

ty. rebels OWN counterspell decks. 1 searcher (i main 14) is all you need. you never have to cast anything else!
Especially with 4 Bojuka Bogs, splashing black for Blightspeaker andRathi Trapper, which are both quite good.
i considered blightspeaker. i prefer the white rebels tbh. defiant falcon carries equipment better. lieutenant having toughness over 1 is quite useful (i forgot to mention i lost 2 rebels to Fire//Ice vs URfae.) amrou scout can emergency block a ninja of the deep hours/kiln fiend (i may not have time to go up the rebel chain.) rebels being a defensive/control deck, blightspeaker doesn't help me survive compared to the white searchers.
trapper i don't like b/c black would be a splash color and trapper ties up black mana. if you're serious tho, my mana base would be:

"CounterRebels" was a legit deck back in the day. the synergy between searchers, counterspell mana and cantrips (Brainstorm, Ponder) is quite awesome. i considered this too but idk what to cut. my mana base would be something like:
Another thing I just thought of: If you want to stay mono-White, why not play the tron lands? It seems to me like you could really benefit from them, and fitting in a couple Expedition Maps would be really easy.
Another thing I just thought of: If you want to stay mono-White, why not play the tron lands? It seems to me like you could really benefit from them, and fitting in a couple Expedition Maps would be really easy.
i don't want to go under 16 plains. maybe it'll work?
You really only need 1-2 white sources in a turn thanks to the colourless activation of Rebel tutors. Expedition Map can always get a plains in a pinch if you're only on tron, but with 12 sources, you're very likely to get one in your opening hand (about 81%).
You could also not play a full playset of the Tron Lands. I am not a tron specialist by any means, so this might be considered heresy.

one thing i don't like is the idea of less consistent turn 1 ramosian sergeant.
this maybe a win more build. as in i have the search engine going and 1 plains/3 other land in play to fetch what i want already. in that scenario, i'm ramping up to 8 mana to double fetch?
when i faced vs Utron in the past, he ran Ghostly Flicker to protect urzatron from Spreading Seas (and other land disruption.) i think tron-ing my mana base is a major commitment, rather than a minor tweak.

how about the gameplan against Bogles
there was 1 boggles player. he went 1-2, i believe. i could SB +4 celestial flare. -2 disenchant, -2 bringers. i think i'll actually do this, thanks!
and WB Pestilence w/Guardian of the Guildpact?
i def did not see that yesterday.
how about Burn? Is Aven Riftwatcher with FF the only lifegain enough?
i already said in post #1 i'd replace 4 bojuka bog w/4 radiant fountain.
If you end up trying the Tron mana base, you could also add Rhystic Circle to your sideboard. This would take care of Burn and Hexproof easily and lock out many other archetypes.
If you end up trying the Tron mana base, you could also add Rhystic Circle to your sideboard. This would take care of Burn and Hexproof easily and lock out many other archetypes.
w/12 plains, 12 tron lands, you have a 50/50 chance of drawing WW2 by turn 4. idk if i want to use maps to fix my white mana.
Rhystic Circle vs burn - they'd have to wait for you to search during their end step, then use instant burn. but you'd have to answer burn pre-Circle and tapping out for Circle seems risky. i run lots of life gain, so maybe burn isn't a huge concern.
hexproof/boggles may run out of mana vs your Circle activations. but representing Celestial Flare w/active rebel searchers seems easier.
interesting idea but idk if i want to tron-out my lands and cut SB cards for Rhystic Circle.
I'm definitely steering the deck into a really extreme direction.
np. i wish you gl w/ur testing.
Celestial Flare would probably be a good inclusion to fight not only Hexproof, but Ulamog's Crushers
getting annililator 2 would be backbreaking early on. recur (exhume) is prob the most common way to pull this off.
Dinrova Horrors from Tron
the CIP w/ghostly flicker seems strong.
they can't Ghostly Flicker out of it.
if they attack w/just 2 guys, Ghostly Flicker removes both from combat.
r1 vs U affinity, 2-0.
SB +4 disenchant. -3 gliders, -1 aven.
only struggle i had was vs his 4/4 hexproof guy. i was on 3 lands so i had to wait a couple turns before i "attached" a Bound in Silence to it.
r2 vs R aggro, 2-1.
SB +1 thermal, -1 nightwind.
game 1, he burned me out real fast.
games 2&3, i stabilized w/aven chain. my life grew out of burn range.
r3 vs GR eldrazi spawn, 2-0.
SB +4 disenchant (Spidersilk Armor), +1 thermal. -4 bonesplitter (he had game 1 artifact removal), -1 nightwind.
my zealot chain kept his spawn tokens low. bound in silence handled the eldrazi he sac'd the eldrazi spawn for.
he suggested Kabira Crossroads to me upon seeing my radiant fountain... awesome suggestion! my new land base is:
out of the 10 of us, i finished 2nd on tiebreaks. the 1st place winner ran Goblins.
i was wrong about burn taking over but another form of mono-red did...
round 3 vs Mono W Prowess, 2-0.
SB: +4 Patrician's Scorn, +1 Thermal Glider. -4 Ramosian Sergeant, -1 Nightwind Glider. He had a low removal count.
Game 1, he gave his dude w/2 white auras - pro white...
me - This creature gains pro white?
him - Yup.
me - Your auras fall off -_-;
him - 0_0 i'll target him instead!
me - *sigh* sureee.
Game 2, I surprised him by casting Patrician's Scorn for free.
conclusion: discovered Mono Black decks can actually run enough removal to answer my 16 Rebel searchers... That's pretty scary! At least I overcame my fear of timing out due to removing Bonesplitter from my build (I played fast.)
I'm splashing Black for Blightspeaker and Venomous Changeling. You don't need that much mana to splash Rebels since you often don't even pay coloured mana for them anyways.
I'm pretty satisfied with the mana base. I feel comfortable going to 23 lands with Orzhov Basilica and Cave of Temptation gives some finishing power to our rebels without requiring deck space... Oh and it also fixes your mana and comes into play untapped.

Venomous Changeling is interesting. It's another "rebel" so there's definite potential.
Lastly we have Blightspeaker, ranked #4 b/c he is terrible on attacking AND blocking. He IS a finisher but I don't know if you need him. I will say that my earlier incarnations of this deck ran Bonesplitter to equip on fliers or Zealot il-Vec's so maybe I've developed a prejudice against him. Your Cave of Temptation looks good on a flier or Zealot il-Vec!
Speaking of Cave of Temptation, it's attractive as a way to add a finisher w/out sacrificing deck space. I will definitely test this in my mono white build. Thanks!
My Kabira Crossroads entering tapped doesn't hurt me too often. My only other 1 drop is Ramosian Sergeant so my 1st turn (and sometimes 3rd turn) plays are open. Life gain helps against burn/Kiln Fiend decks.
Your Orzhov Basilica enters tapped as well but I guess the payoff is when you run out of lands, you now have 1 extra mana (compared to my build.)
I haven't played vs Tron recently but Bojuka Bog gives you black mana while saving Relic of Progenitus SB slots. I admit the sorcery speed isn't optimal vs Tron's Ghostly Flicker or GB Fog's recursion tho.
It's very tempting to find further reason to run Brainstorm in a deck that shuffles as much as a Rebels deck. Any ideas for Blue White?
During Masques Block Constructed (MBC,) "Counter-Rebels" was a legit deck. Leaving counter spell mana open, then searching during their end step is powerful synergy.
That being said, Brainstorm and Ponder are auto-includes. Since the cantrips are 1 drops, adjustments must be made to favor blue mana. Ramosian Sergeant must be cut since you can't Brainstorm/Ponder AND Ramosian Sergeant on the first turn... doing so will destroy your mana consistency. And since we are now blue heavy, 4 copies of actual Counterspell seem a perfect fit.
12/30/20 Update: +4 Ramosian Sergeant, -4 Journey to Nowhere. I goldfished a few games and had more removal than Rebel Searchers! Also, the deck kinda falls apart w/no Rebel engine -_-; Lastly, I don't want excessive enchantment-based removal, since Bound in Silence may bring in enchantment hate already.
Notes: I have a higher land count b/c I absolutely need to hit 4 mana for the deck to work.
Test vs Elves, 3-1-1.
No SB
Round 1 vs RDW: 1-0 match, 2-1 games.
SB: +4 Lone Missionary, -4 Gut Shot.
Game 1, he burned me out quick.
Games 2 & 3, I resolved a single Lone Missionary early on, then searched out multiple Aven Riftwatcher to stay healthy.
Round 3 vs Mono White Heroic: 1-0 match, 2-1 games.
SB: +4 Patrician's Scorn, +2 Erase. -4 Gut Shot, -1 Nightwind Glider, -1 Thermal Glider.
Game 1 was controversial. He casted Benevolent Blessing naming "white." In response, I searched out Bound in Silence. This play was legal but both of us missed that Benevolent Blessing removes my Bound in Silence since it isn't his aura. My round 2 opponent informed us of this at the start of game 3.
Game 2 he was just too fast.
Game 3 I Bound in Silence his biggest creature but didn't dare attack into it via Amrou Scout on 3 land. I feared instant speed Bound in Silence removal and an untimely block for my searcher. I don't race anyway, I only stabilize so this plan was just fine. I eventually got my rebel chain going while he failed to produce more creatures so I won.
Conclusion: I can't believe my last update to his deck was Dec 24, 2020! I think I'll listen to my round 2 opponent and SB +3 Dust to Dust, -3 Erase.
To clarify a few things, in my test match vs Elves, we mutually agreed to not SB (we were waiting for the event to start and didn't want to go thru the effort of de-boarding.) If I were to SB, I would've +2 Erase (for Spidersilk Armor. Armor defeats Zealot il-Vec and Gut Shot) and -1 Nightwind Glider, -1 Thermal Glider. But now since I've replaced Erase w/Dust to Dust, I'd substitute the 2 Gliders for 2 Patrician's Scorn.
And do not underestimate how powerful tempo'd a 0 mana Gut Shot is on most turn 1 mana dorks! More ppl should be running Gut Shot, as least in the 'board. Love that card, fits every deck!
In game 1 vs Boggles, I "attached" a Bound in Silence onto a heavily aura'd, hexproof creature by fetching it via rebel searcher. For those who don't know, "attaching" is technically different from "targeting" (attaching is a confusing, unintuitive loophole in the rules.) It was in game 2 where my Patrician's Scorn completely wiped his board.
I used to main Ramosian Sergeant but found the tempo loss was too great. I prefer a consistent 2-drop searcher on turn 2 (I have 12 searchers.) Then turn 3, hardcast Zealot il-Vec (begin the control game) or remove an early threat (Unmake/Bound in Silence) or even play Aven Riftwatcher on defense, rather than using my 1 drop Ramosian Sergeant to fetch my 2 drop searchers (who can't block, obviously) on turn 3. Gotta stabilize ASAP b/c early aggression is this deck's only real downfall (the other downfall is not reaching 4 mana - run 26 lands, not 24.) Rebels tend to win the long game.
10 players, 3-0 matches, 2nd place.

As WMP was saying, Celestial Flare would probably be a good inclusion to fight not only Hexproof, but Ulamog's Crushers and Dinrova Horrors from Tron, since they can't Ghostly Flicker out of it.

np. i wish you gl w/ur testing.

10 players, 3-0 matches, 2nd place.
“Rebels"
4 aven riftwatcher
4 bound in silence
4 defiant falcon
4 ramosian lieutenant
4 ramosian sergeant
4 zealot il-vec
2 thermal glider

4 radiant fountain
4 disenchant
4 patrician’s scorn (credit to WarMachinePrime)
4 relic of progenitus
2 nightwind glider
1 thermal glider
r1 vs U affinity, 2-0.
4 kabira crossroads
4 radiant fountain
out of the 10 of us, i finished 2nd on tiebreaks. the 1st place winner ran Goblins.
i was wrong about burn taking over but another form of mono-red did...

round 1 vs Mono B, 1-2.
SB: +2 Nightwind Glider, -2 Thermal Glider. He had a high removal count.
Found out he main'd: 4 Defile, 4 Tendrils of Corruption, 3 Geth's Verdict, 3 Crypt Rats.
Game 3, he even killed my Nightwind Glider w/Nausea!
round 2 vs GR Slivers, 2-1.
SB: +4 Gut Shot, +1 Thermal Glider. -4 Ramosian Sergeant, -1 Nightwind Glider. He had a low removal count.
Fetched Thermal Gliders to block his red Slivers.
Fetched a Bound in Silence on his Rancor'd Sliver (didn't want Rancor returning to his hand.)
Zealot il-Vec wiped out his army. SB Gut Shot made this faster.
round 3 vs Mono W Prowess, 2-0.
SB: +4 Patrician's Scorn, +1 Thermal Glider. -4 Ramosian Sergeant, -1 Nightwind Glider. He had a low removal count.
Game 1, he gave his dude w/2 white auras - pro white...
me - This creature gains pro white?
him - Yup.
me - Your auras fall off -_-;
him - 0_0 i'll target him instead!
me - *sigh* sureee.
Game 2, I surprised him by casting Patrician's Scorn for free.
round 4 vs Mono B LD, 1-2.
SB: +2 Nightwind Glider, -2 Thermal Glider. He had a high removal count.
Game 1, he goes 1st. Swamp, Dark Ritual, Dark Ritual, Thorn of the Black Rose. I ended up swarming him and we traded monarch back and forth. He never got to abuse his land destruction.
Game 2, he killed all my Rebel searchers.
Game 3, he goes 1st again. Swamp, Dark Ritual, Cuombajj Witches. He kept my Rebel numbers low.
conclusion: discovered Mono Black decks can actually run enough removal to answer my 16 Rebel searchers...

I don't like Blightspeaker b/c he's the worst 2 mana searcher imo. Ramosian Lieutenant is #1 b/c 2 toughness survives Cuombajj Witches, Gut Shot and Nausea. Defiant Falcon is #2 b/c he flies... besides offense and defense, flying evades Swirling Sandstorm. Amrou Scout is #3 b/c you sometimes need an emergency blocker to fetch from Ramosian Sergeant to block 2 toughness attackers, like Ninja of the Deep Hours or Kiln Fiend.

My first draft:
8 Island
4 Ash Barrens (fix mana + shuffle)
4 Plains
4 Tranquil Cove
4 Brainstorm (4 cantrips = 2 land)
4 Ponder (4 cantrips = 2 land)
(20) Rebels:
4 Aven Riftwatcher
4 Bound in Silence
4 Defiant Falcon
4 Ramosian Lieutenant
4 Zealot il-Vec
4 Counterspell
4 Guardian of the Guildpact
4 Journey to Nowhere
4 Gut Shot
4 Relic of Progenitus
4 Patriarch's Scorn

12/30/20 Update: +4 Ramosian Sergeant, -4 Journey to Nowhere. I goldfished a few games and had more removal than Rebel Searchers! Also, the deck kinda falls apart w/no Rebel engine -_-; Lastly, I don't want excessive enchantment-based removal, since Bound in Silence may bring in enchantment hate already.
04/11/21 Update: +4 Idyllic Grange, -4 Bojuka Bog.
CounterRebels:
4 Aven Riftwatcher
4 Bound in Silence
4 Defiant Falcon
4 Ramosian Lieutenant
4 Zealot il-Vec
(20) Non-Rebels:
4 Brainstorm
4 Counterspell
4 Guardian of the Guildpact
4 Journey to Nowhere
4 Ponder
8 Island
4 Ash Barrens
4 Plains
4 Tranquil Cove
4 Gut Shot
4 Patrician's Scorn
4 Relic of Progenitus
3 Amrou Scout
12/30/20 Update: Gliders (Nightwind Glider, Thermal Glider) don't determine games. Black kills pro-black Nightwind Glider w/Nausea or various "Edicts." Red fears Aven Riftwatcher's 4 life more than Thermal Glider's pro-red. Therefore, more rebel searchers (Amrou Scouts) in the SB.

Round 2 vs Boggles: 1-0 match, 2-0 games.
SB: +4 Patrician's Scorn, +2 Erase. -4 Gut Shot, -1 Nightwind Glider, -1 Thermal Glider.
My aura hate was too strong.
After the match, he recommended SB cards to replace Erase:
-Dust to Dust (Affinity.)
-Holy Light (Elves.)
-Dawnbringer Cleric (flex slot.)
