Servitor Control is a top control style deck that with a toolbox engine. We work to establish the soft lock of thoughtpicker witch + myr servitor. This lock allows us to win through mill or though a beat down with a bunch of little dudes.
Spells 2x Chainer's Edict (4 removal spells for 2 cards) 4x Counterspell (deals with early threats and cards drawn before the lock) 2x Deprive 2x Grim Harvest (recurs creatures and with 7 mana can let thoughtpicker witch lock by himself) 3x Nameless Inversion (tutorable removal) 3x Perilous Research (instant speed draw 2 with little downside. Enables unearth) 2x Sylvok Lifestaff (tutor-able survival card) 4x Unearth (hits all of our creatures or cycles)
Creatures 1x Cuombajj Witches (tutor-able concession to goblins and stompy) 4x Myr Servitor (the main engine of the deck and half of the lock) 2x Sea Gate Oracle (card draw and an early blocker) 2x Thoughtpicker Witch (half of our lock combo) 4x Trinket Mage (tutors for servitor, lifestaff, lands and sideboard cards) 3x Vedalken AEthermage (tutors for all of our creatures except servitor)
Sideboard 1x Aether Spellbomb (tutorable unsummon, useful for izzet blitz) 1x Annul (hits most graveyard hate) 2x Choking Sands (good against tron, teachings, and kitty decks) 1x Coumbajj Witches (good against aggressive decks and the downside hurts less than you'd think) 2x Dispel 2x Duress (good against control) 1x Executioner's Capsule (tutor-able removal) 2x Hydroblast (great against goblins, and burn) 2x Nihil Spellbomb (one sided graveyard hate) 1x Sylvok Lifestaff (in case we need more survival)
I really love this idea! This deck is so fresh and original, but still seems very rough, which is probably why it's difficult to give proper feedback for it.
I think the Vedalken should probably go. More draw spells and/or filtering cards would probably help you a lot more.
You could refine your list by giving it a clearer direction outside of the combo. What I mean by that is having a game plan that doesn't revolve only on having and protecting a soft-lock. I think you could find some interesting UB Trinket Mage decks scattered across the internet that could help you a lot. You could also just jam your deck full of efficient removal and countermagic (a lot like your current deck) and eventually draw into your lock in the late game.
I'm subscribing, and I hope to see more development here!
I love this one too. Seems like a novel idea, and one that has legs too. The main engine is of course Thoughtpicker Witch + Myr Servitor, so I think maxing out on each is the first that should be done. A Trinket Mage package should also definitely be in, as you have a really big amount of targets. Besides Servitors themselves, you have Executioner's Capsule for removal, Sylvok Lifestaff in order to gain life when you sacrifice Servitors, Ghoulcaller's Bell which the actual Lantern Control uses and which will make you able to mill away two cards provided the two you see with Witch are problematic.
Discard and proactive removal like Wrench Mind and Chainer's Edict should be in too, as this seems more of a tap-out Control decks, and so countermagic should be kept to a minimum. 4 Counterspell and perhaps some Exclude should be all that I'm running.
Your priority should be stripping their hand and board bare, then establish the lock so they never draw anything relevant. Evincar's Justice can deal with multiple threats at the same time, so it's a must have. Ponder and Preordain will also help you dig for the pieces you need. An already hard-to deal with finisher like Benthic Giant or Gurmag Angler will prove extremely difficult to stop if you control their draws, so that's what you should be running.
Is there anything similar to Ensnaring Bridge in Pauper? I'm thinking of Flood, but it's a bit slow.
The problem with ghoulcaller's bell is that it doesn't do anything unless you already have a thoughtpicker witch. It is a terrible top deck and you almost never want to tutor for it. I've tried it and it felt really bad. Unless we have a better look at the top card effect, it should not be in the deck. I also find executioner's capsule kind of meh against a lot of the time. 3 mana limited removal just doesn't do it a lot of the time.
Evincar's justice is hits all of our creatures except oracle so i you rather run something like wail of nim or echoing decay because they're less self damaging.
Life staff is our ensnaring bridge effect. It makes opponents attacks pointless a lot of the time. 2 staffs with 4 servitors means tron with a crusher and a fengren marauder attacking every turn gains us a life.
If ponder was to come in athermage would need to go. I've tried it and when wizard is better its much better, but ponder may be correct.
I haven't tried angler yet but its on the to-do list.
Wrench mind seems hard to fit in but could maybe do something.
Although Executioner's Capsule is 3 mana limited removal, a singleton or two copies will always come in handy as tutorable removal. There will be times you will be facing something like a Delver of Secrets or Spire Golem you can't block, or a Fangren Marauder or Ulamog's Crusher that are too big for Nameless Inversion where you'll be glad you can tutor a removal for them. You can also set it up naturally on turn 1, and even if pricey it's not dead against most of the field (except of course Mono Black)
I think Evincar's Justice is significantly better than Wail of the Nim for reducing almost all board states to ashes repeatedly, and provides sort of a slow wincon when coupled with Lifestaff. Servitors come back so they're not a problem. The only creature you care about not dying is Witch, but having four copies, Ponder and Unearth should be more than enough. Unearth can also rebuy you a Trinket Mage after you've wiped it out with Justice to search for another Trinket.
Don't you think portent would be a good card for this deck to get an early grip on your opponents library. You also can use it as a bad ponder to set up your draws.
sorry the double post but i can't edit the last one :/
so i tested 2 thoughtcast and it played well, usually one mane draw 2, sometimes 2 mana draw 2, fair enought. always needed a draw effect since i usually go to topdeck :/
i just found Dominator Drone and i kinda like it. ingest does what we are already doing and helps milling faster, can be sacced to the witch and reanimated with unearth to activate the effect again. it doesn't seem bad at all to me
Your selection contains rares and uncommons. Do you want to stick to pauper?
I have some questions about your game plan:
- how long does it take to set up your lock?
- with the lock you try to win the late game by leaving them with only lands on top. Right?
You mentioned some cards to mill you opponent blindly . This only helps you game plan if you can see their library.
As far as I can see you can only do that with the witch. I see that you have many ways to get the witch
From almost anywhere I imagine that it must be quite difficult to set it up in time before your opponent
gets you first. How often did you play the deck jet?
I am also playing around with the idea of a deck that tries to control the opponents top deck.
The deck can be found here:
Can you let us know how the deck worked out for you and how your matchups were?
Thanks for sharing your idea!

i don't know why the deck selection has rares, i edited them away but the edit seems to not save :/
decks seems quite fine, i sometimes lose to UR friends but all the midrange decks are in our favor (and since the drake ban i think the meta will be a lot slower now)
building the lock is easy and the strongest way to do it is to control the board and just draw into it or in a tutor
I was trying to make a Thoughtpicker deck and I settled on g/b, using Ivy Lane Denizen and Persist creatures to keep coming back........then I saw a video of someone else playing something similar. They called it lantern control, which lead me to this thread.
I like the idea of Myr Servitors and I can't believe I forgot about Lifestaff. More food for thought
I'll have to rethink my list to see if 3 colors is doable.
