Quote from fahrenheightsOK so I am wondering what cards are legal in this format, since I don't play MTGO it's been quite difficult understanding which sets are legal and not.
Specifically, which black-bordered sets have been released on MTGO?
And which core sets have been released?
What sets does Masters edition cover?
Is Unstable Mutation legal or not?
What about Soul Barrier?
Any help would be appreciated! Thank youuuu

Quote from mozerdozerLast time I tried to use it, Unstable Mutation was not legal.
Quote from BetweenWallsMTGO has none of the cards released prior to Mirage, except for those available through the Masters Editions.

From Masters Editions:
Sinkhole Hymn to Tourach High Tide Mystic Remora Gaea's Touch Red Elemental Blast Blue Elemental Blast Active Volcano Flash Flood False Defeat Lava Burst Sunken City Essence Filter Lim-Dûl's High Guard Woolly Spider Psychic Purge Farrel's Zealot Spore Cloud Phyrexian War Beast Carnivorous Plant Yavimaya Ancients Argothian Treefolk Errand of Duty Orcish Mechanics Argivian Blacksmith Illusionary Forces Soul Kiss
These were included in MTGO both through regular sets (as commons) AND masters editions, (as uncommons) so are pauper legal for paper & online. I assume they were upshifted for limited purposes:
Alabaster Potion Clay Statue Fireball Flame Spirit Grapeshot Catapult Prodigal Sorcerer Ray of Command Squall Theft of Dreams
These were only included in MTGO as commons through the non-random Coldsnap theme decks:
Gorilla Shaman Insidious Bookworms Kjeldoran Pride Legions of Lim-Dûl Mistfolk Snow Devil Casting of Bones
If legal, these cards would only be included in MTGO as commons through the Deckmasters set:
Balduvian Bears Guerrilla Tactics Lava Burst Lim-Dul's High Guard Phyrexian War Beast Storm Shaman Woolly Spider Yavimaya Ancients
Similarly, from the Beatdown Box Set:
Quote from codename47Well, it's not on the banlist, so it's legal. Try it again.
Quote from Traveler80It wasn't printed as a common on MTGO so it isn't legal online.
However for the OP, if you are playing paper Pauper you don't necessarily have to heed the online banlist and legalities.
Quote from the_cardfatherTechnically everything from Mirage Block Forward at its printed rarity and the other cards at their Master's Ed rarity.
Special sets don't count, and time shifted cards are considered rare.
You can use the "pauper" format filter in the deck builder, however last time I used it it would filter out all uncommons including those that were legal.
Your two cards in question:
Soul Barrier doesn't exist online (via gatherer search)
Unstable Mutation only exists as part of the Timeshifted set IE Rare.
Quote from KirdanThe oldest core set printed online is 7th.
Mirage was not the first block released online, IPA was.
Quote from KirdanNeither Beatdown nor Deckmasters is online. They only released actual blocks and their own Masters Edition sets retroactively, not special sets such as those two.
Quote from BetweenWalls...but the cards from Coldsnap Theme Decks are available? I recall someone mentioning that Gorilla Shaman was pauper-legal on MTGO. I know the special-set Duel Decks are available as evidenced by Serrated Arrows being pauper-legal. Just not sure where the line is drawn for these non-standard sets yet, I guess.
