Mind you, I didn't say a Delver deck, I just named some playable creatures with high CMC. The other thing that springs to mind is recycling depleted Blastoderm.

Oh, you think the losers' bracket is your ally, but you merely adopted the scrub tier. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn’t 4-0 an FNM until I was already a man; by then, it was nothing to me but an extra pack to sell for store credit!
Thoughts about Galvanic Bombardment and Grapple with the Past? I think both are pretty solid. However, Bombardment directly competes with Flame Slash, so it will boil down to the flexibility vs consistency. Bombardment is more flexible because it can be played at Instant speed, which means interacting with Delver from the get go and with Peregrine Drake from the second Bombardment. The downside to this is that you have to wait for the 3rd one to take care of x/4's, but to pay off a bit the last one can kill 5/5's. Maybe pair a playset with 2-3 Slashes?
Grapple with the Past is really interesting. It's like a mini Pulse of Murasa, shaving off 1 CMC and the lifegain in favor of giving you a bit of deck selection like a Green Anticipate. It also develops the yards for decks interested in that kind of interaction.
So any idea how this new Monarch mechanic is going to work in Pauper? Seems pretty broken.

It seems fine to me, honestly. All of the cards which they have shown to make you the monarch have been pretty high CMC so far (four is the lowest), and while the effect is essentially pauper Bob, if any creature hits you the opponent gets to steal the crown from you.'
So it comes down too slow for fighting aggro, and can be stolen relatively easily. The one big use as I see it is in control decks as a silver bullet against Mystical Teachings, but in the Age of the Bird this isn't needed anyway.

Honestly I think Teachings and Drake are the reasons its not OP. You could probably build a deck that uses Monarch to build a decent late game in a kind of "Traditional" control shell, or at least the closest thing Pauper could get to it. I guess Pauper really kind of lacks the cards necessary to make that kind of strategy really work. You would need something like Wall of Omens early and Wrath of God to make it work but if that's the game you are playing Teaching is probably just better and if it is, then you don't really want Monarchy at all.

That was my analysis as well. If they make a 1-2 drop with the effect it will become big in aggro decks, as it will give them sufficient gas early on to keep from being shutdown by control, but as long as the cards are 4-5 mana no one wants it.

It's a consolidated thread so people can track the changes to pauper over time. Usually a set might only add 1-2 new cards. The wealth of playable commons that have been added lately is a nice change.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
Could you remove the set name from this thread's title?

Herald of the Fair seems like a nice addition for WW. Pretty excited about that. Pressure Point also seems considerable. Its "removal" with a cantrip. Helps you push through damage and keep the gas in hand.
Dramatic Reversal HAS to have something it can do. Seems like a lot of combo potential.
Built to Smash is a strict upgrade to Brute Force. Could Reckless Fireweaver be a thing? With artifact lands legal and decks like Boros Kuldotha being a thing, it could represent a decent amount of damage.
I don't know what to make of the Thriving cycle. Thriving Ibex, Thriving Turtle, Thriving Rats, Thriving Grubs, Thriving Rhino. They seem pretty bad except Rats and Grubs. I'm not sure how they work though. Can you activate their ability multiple times per attack? Does declaring them trigger the ability and then you can pay as many Energy as you have? If you can then Rats or Grubs turn 2 into Live Fast seems pretty crazy... It basically reads Draw 2, Lose 2, Rats becomes a 3/4 or Grubs becomes a 4/3. Draw 2 and attack with a 3/4 on turn 3. Attune with Aether -> Rats -> Live Fast is even more nuts for a 4/5? There is no way that's how that works right?

Dramatic Reversal might make Axebane combo a little less clunky, since you'd stop needing to rely on a three-mana aura sticking to go off.
Brute Force is the only thing mono-red can do to shrug off a bolt, in the very few red decks that care about doing that. Built to Smash can't be used except when attacking. Waiting for you attack seems like a mistake the enemy wouldn't make more than once.
Some people were talking about Metalspinner's Puzzleknot as a possible Piston replacement in That Deck I Love. I'm convinced it could be, at least in a Mardu version.

I'd never seen Pressure Point before. I totally misread Built to Smash. Didn't realize it said attacking. Also, any thoughts on the ruling of the Thriving cycle?
Yeah I saw that post. The thought that occurred to me was if you are removing Kuldotha, why not replace it with Angelic Purge and leave the Wellspring? It saves you the mana and life of having to activate it. Also, why not play Thraben Inspector in that list to assist with Metalcraft, its a good bounce target, and draws cards if you are dead set on spending mana to sac artifacts to draw cards, oh, and all those artifacts now come with a body.

I have a very hard time evaluating Energy cards, because it's an unfamiliar new resource type. Will it be easy enough to get extra energy to shunt around as necessary? Hard to say.
I would say that by default you should look at these creatures in a vacuum, where we see that they're moderately undercosted bodies with no combat keywords. The white one is the only one that doesn't die to Lightning Bolt, and it costs 4 mana. I would definitely not anticipate them being interesting outside of a dedicated energy deck, and I wouldn't expect to spend any energy on them in other than the direst circumstances.

No, you only get to pay once per trigger. So if you attack with Thriving Turtle and you have a million energy, you still only get to add one counter.
Yeah def not playable then. Way too weak.
