I didn't see a thread for this in here, so hopefully I didn't just miss it.
Today's banned and restricted list update came with some big news for standard, but we care little for Stoneforges and Planeswalkers over here. It was not in the DailyMTG article, but a note said that MTGO-only changes would be announced exclusively in the community blog.
Frantic Search has been banned, effective after the June 29 downtime. What will this mean for the namesake deck? Will it still be playable? I imagine the answer is yes, having lost to it without my opponent having cast it, but the overall power of the deck will be brought into line.
Frantic Search did provide a lot of advantage in that deck, which is why it was banned. It provided a discard outlet for Deep Analysis if you weren't quite able to hard cast it, got rid of fodder in your hand for pretty much nothing, and with familiars, netted you mana. So yeah, it is a big thing for Familiar Storm. By banning Frantic Search, Wizards is just trying to slow the deck down, not out right kill it. It opens the field up a bit, which will be nice. Might even get more people into playing the format because I'm sure people heard the horror stories about this deck and just didn't want to play against it (Like JtmS in standard).
Frantic search is busted. Always has been; free filtering that accelerates as well? It's basically like a mini time spiral but sometimes it's even better i.e. discarding deep analysis or useless cards and netting good cards i.e. draw 2 good cards, discard 2 lands.
Maybe we will see a resurgence in grapeshot storm similar to AJ Kerrigan's list which is a lot more fair than pauper high tide esque storm IMO but still quite good.

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."

I didn't think about or realize that, that one card provided so much CA. Thanks for pointing them out.
Why ban this and not the storm bounce spell? The deck loses it's most busted card draw mechanic but still has access to many others, and the deck will likely still exist in spite of this banning. I think by replacing this with a different draw spell the deck will be just as potent. People will probably say if you ban this one storm spell instead of the search then people will just use a different storm spell, but in pauper there aren't any in B/W/U that are good enough to matter. Grapeshot Catapult is red and if you want that in the deck instead you have to do something horrible with your manabase.

I'm pretty sure you mean Grapeshot.
Also, wizards didn't want to outright kill the deck, just to weaken it enough so that it doesn't absolutely dominate any deck not prepared for it.
I guess Infect and red based storm decks will now take over as the default best combo decks (infect being aggro comboish) which is alright because they are red and green decks, not blue ones.

Anymore, in that format, you have better options.

Funny how the two cards banned in pauper are, you guessed it, an artifact and a blue card. Next we just need some degenerate black card.

What other cards were banned in Pauper?
Cranial Plating has been banned in pauper for some time; Frantic Search was the only new banning announced today.
