With all do respect to other BFZ spoiler discussion threads, I felt this needed it's own thread.
We have never had a "destroy target permanent" before, here in pauperville, much less an exile. The 7 mana is steep, but this is perfect as a Tron spell, or anything else that can handle the cost.
I believe that Scour will quickly become an autoinclude for Tron, somewhere in the 75. The seven mana is perfect for a larger spell, and when Tron reaches its full mana potential, it needs to regain any lost ground and cut down the opponent quickly. Scour makes sure to kill the biggest piece of their puzzle. At instant speed, it has no trouble hitting a Mnemonic Wall mid-combo.
I'm contemplating adding this into Elves. Hitting 7 mana is less then difficult for elves, and this will get rid of anything standing in their way.
Thoughts on elves/tron, and of its main deck potential?
Thoughts about where else this card can slide into?
I'm excited for this, but at the same time I really only see it being a thing in Tron lists and maybe elves (now that you mention it). I'm not sure what else can run it consistently, but I guess we'll see what comes of it in time!
I really like it, and I'm stoked for any other possible Tron staples that might make a deck different to your typical Eggs + Fangren Marauder build. Mystical Teachings can fetch for this, so it and any Control deck that can pay up to 6-7 mana (I've seen UB Control flashing back Chainer's Edict before) can safely include this. Plus if we get something like Treasure Mage for Colorless cards instead of Artifacts this card will be quite the target for it.
This is a very significant card, actually. Regardless of its playability, it is breaking new ground.
This is one of very few cards that allows any colour to destroy any permanent. The fact that it's at common and that it's an instant sets it quite apart from the others.
It could be used in Tron, but it already has cards that will do similar things, and better (since it has access to many colours). I would be surprised to see this played very much there.
It could be fetched with Mystical Teachings. This sounds really good, but most of the time a Teachings player tutors for something that they can play immediately. Teachings for Counterspell is a cool 6 mana (very playable). Teachings up a Scour From Existence costs 11 mana, which isn't affordable until the very, very late game. It could be interesting in a Teachings deck as a 1-of or something, if just to draw naturally.
The colours that need this effect most are Blue, Black and Red. It is the only way they have of destroying Enchantments (and for Blue and BLack, artifacts as well). I could see this being very useful at being a creature-removal as well as a Curse of the Bloody Tome-removal... or anything, really. This is a very flexible card that allows colours to do things they couldn't do before. And the only drawback is the mana cost. I could see this in a MBC sideboard.
I'll probably be using it as a 1-of in my Turbo Fog sideboard to replace Lignify, which was always mediocre at best. Now I can stop Ulamog's Crusher (or anything) in its tracks and prevent it from ever coming back (take that, Haunted Fengraf!).
