All said and done about the banning proposals? So I would ban Mana Drain and Dig Through Time and unban the blue commons, as Sensei proposed.
Birthing pod, Oath of druids and Entomb are also candidates, but had no real discussion/response so far. I would ban them, too. So far, only ban Wasteland/ unban Stip mine provoked reactions and raised different opinions, everybody please vote now.
1) ban both
2) do nothing
3) unban Strip mine, ban Wasteland
Birthing pod, Oath of druids/ghouls and Entomb: YES/NO

I don't like any of those options, so I vote do nothing.
I like having another format to play my mana drain, and it's only one card out of 100, is it really that much more oppressive than other control cards?
I think the blue commons should be unbanned. Every time I start a blue deck I throw in Brainstorm, Thirst for Knowledge and Treasure Cruise only to cut them when I look at the banned list.
I think strip mine should be unbanned. As a singleton it's a pretty fair card. I think it and Wasteland can both exist in the same format. No need to ban one to unban the other.
Entomb seems really powerful in a format where you are removing fast mana and other tutors (demonic and vampiric). If you're banning those other tutors, you probably need to hit Entomb as well. Oath of Druids is a great deck, but in a format where it's singleton, you'd have a harder time building around it than in something like vintage where you can run 4 oath, so that's probably fine, but very high on power level. Birthing Pod is another scary card that is probably fine as a singleton. It's really good, but it can only be activated at sorcery speed, so it's something you CAN deal with.

Yes Mana Drain you land you a Turn 3 Elspeth or Titan. Jace's 4 CMC is a significant cost. You can kill Consecrated Sphinx during your upkeep.
As I said the only change I'm adamant about is banning Mana Drain and banning Strip Mine.
The following are only slight preferences:
Ban Dig Through Time- it's banned in Legacy.
Unban Brainstorm, Ponder, Lotus Petal- completely fair in Singleton format.
Do nothing with Wasteland.
Do nothing with Pod, Oaths, and Entomb.
Breaking News
We change to 40/60% prize split between 3-0(4-0) and 2-1 (3-1) players! That means 3 or 4 rounds, no top x.
Our marvelous sponsor MtgoCardMarket read our forum and will support us again by increasing the prize pool to 10 tix + door prize.
So, I will be able to calculate the prizes without Excel:-)
I'm still unsure about the number of players for using 4 rounds. I think most players like more games, aka 4 rounds. My question: Is this desirable, despite the possible unfair pairings in 4th round? If your answer is yes, we could go below the 'natural' number of 16 players for 4 rounds.
Example: 10 players= Round1 5 winners - 2 3(2) winners- 3 2(1)- 4 1 or NO undefeated in the end( which makes 100% pool for 3-1 players)
I can not believe it! I wrote for 3 hours on a new post, very long and detailed, and it swallowed my text complety, no automatic draft or save function! I could cry!
Note to myself: Use Word or whatever to write long posts then save it before copying it here.
I like the new prize structure. I prefer 4 rounds even if the pairings are unfair.
as for banning
I think mana drain, birthing pod, oath should be banned. I could go either way on entomb (robert was the only person who really played reanimator. I think the card is too good but no one is abusing it.) I actually think mana drain is the weakest card between the three, and birthing pod is the strongest. I creates so much value and can find so many silver bullet type creatures as well as combo kills. oath is very strong if you build around it, but requires a bit of weird deck construction. mana drain is just a counterspell the majority of the time, sometime it can provide huge tempo swings, but I don't think this is that common. That said I would ban all three.
I think brainstorm, thirst for knowledge, ponder, and lotus petal should be unbanned (as well as life from the loam and sensei's divining top, but that is probably just me)
Hello all. I am interested in participating but would like to clarify something.
Is the 100 singleton deck the same as a commander deck but without a commander? Do we have a sideboard?
The ban list. If a card is not on that list then we are allowed to use it?
Edit: I've created an account with gatherling. MTGO name: Burn5
I'll make a submission as soon as I've got a deck!
Edit: I've hit a snag in verifying my account. It wants me to message Dabil but I cannot find anything besides chat, none of which work while that account is offline.

I don't think I ever verified my account for this reason. Just make sure your e-mail address is correct.

Sorta. You have 20 life not 40 and sideboards are permitted.

Yes

Don't know how to solve this. It's possible no one has been verified since DTK got released
I'm doing my first week of MTGO. I got into magic during the return to ravnica block but haven't played in a long time due to all my friends dropping out.
I vote for unbanning Brainstorm and Ponder because they're in my colors.
I'm not qualified to give an opinion on the other stuff.
I hope you use the same nick for your gatherling account as your MTGO-name! While theoretically you could use any name, practically you will have problems, because some events/sponsors just add bot credits under the (gatherling) registered name for winners.
There is absolutely no need for being verified, unless you want to host your own events!
I think the differences between Commander and S100 are much bigger than it may look at first glance. Hint: You can click on META in gatherling, and will be able to see decks from the past events!
-20 life means that aggro and direct damage decks are viable strategies
-There are decks, that use no critters at all
-Commander is 99cards + 1 definitely (infinite) one, you build your deck around this central strategy, in S100 you get 7 from 100 and it must work
-Sideboard for plan B
-S100 players are better drivers than Commander players
Gumgod,I didn't plan to write such a long post, it just happened. I mixed a funny anecdote inbetween, a rant about turn 1 killer decks and Poker, all gone to Nirvana.
The main point was about the timer length, though. With just 3 or 4 rounds, and starting in Europe at 21.30, we could increase it to 40 min again. Some decks just can not be played in 25 min. I have 2 decks that I would never use with 25min(again).
Nobody wins a S100 on turn4, in Vintage you are most likely dead, then. S100 games take longer by nature!
One of the reason I like S100 so much, is the fact that a 'real' game can happen that swings back and forth, or a battlefield with dozens of critters, artifacts and effects. Then, of course, a turn takes much longer.
By imposing the same time limit for S100 like any other format, somehow, we cut the potential of the S100 format.
Some players usally make it with 1 or 2 min on the timer, but just don't like the stress by doing so.
Newcomers suffer even more from the 25 min timer.
The possible drawback of 40 min: If your match finish early, you may have to wait for another match to finish, and if they go full distance, that could be 30 or 40 min!
Brainstorming:
-With 3 rounds, it's pretty safe to do: Overall maximum event time is 4h, people only have to wait 2 rounds, if at all. With 4 rounds it's already 5.30 h, when ALL rounds needs maximum time, and if somebody plays a fast red aggro deck and must wait 3 times 30 min or more, it will be a burden.
-Instead of generally raising timer, we decide by number of players/rounds, OR fixed date, like every 1st and 3rd event of a month is 'Full S100' with 40 min.
Most important for the next event right now, the question from post 35: I'm still unsure about the number of players for using 4 rounds. I think most players like more games, aka 4 rounds. My question: Is this desirable, despite the possible unfair pairings in 4th round? If your answer is yes, we could go below the 'natural' number of 16 players for 4 rounds.
Example: 10 players= Round1 5 winners - 2 3(2) winners- 3 2(1)- 4 1 or NO undefeated in the end( which makes 100% pool for 3-1 players) Still collecting votes and opinions on ban list and timer.
For fun,I wanted to add an absurd and totally irrelevant point at the end of my list, why S100 is more different than it looks at first glance. Which was originally: S100 players look better But then I realized, that's one of the few things you see at first glance! So I came up with driving.
-S100 players are better bus drivers than Commander players
If we are voting on the timer too, I vote for keeping the 25 min timer. I'm a fast player and play fast decks, so even with 25 min timer, there are sometimes cases when I finish a match in 10 min (or less, if opponent play eg reanimator and drops Iona on turn 2) and have to wait 30-40 mins. Yes, it is one end of the extremes, but it does happen sometimes. Making the games last potentially 30 mins longer? No thanks. I'd rather lose to timer sometimes than wait for my next match when I should have been gone sleeping long ago anyway.
I agree with this. Both players have the same amount of time to win. 25 minutes is enough time, even for a control deck.
What's changing?
I read them, and it looked like a lot of options were being discussed. I really like this type of split. This is what tribal does now right?
All said and done about the banning proposals? So I would ban Mana Drain and Dig Through Time and unban the blue commons, as Sensei proposed.

thank you!
Shots fired.
What if I play both formats though?
Alternatively, torches and forks.

But it looks like the majority favor unbanning the commons. Did that vote pass and, if so, will it take effect in time for today's singleton?
