I'm thinking about getting a momir avatar, but it costs 12 tickets.
So I was wondering what you guys thought about grinding tickets with momir?
Right now I'm playing rtr block, standard, and pauper, and I usually 3-1 dailys.
Is it possible to reliably win momir matches, or is it just too random?
Is there actual strategy behind it? I understand that the creatures you generate will obviously throw strategy into it, but besides that.

If MTG is a part of your life, the formats are like relationships:
Standard/Block = The on-again, off-again holiday fling
Modern/Vintage/Legacy = Stable, homely. A ***** after absence/misreading
Limited/Sealed = Heart breaking free spirit
Commander/Cube = Agreeable, needy and expensive
Pauper/Peasant = Sweet, kind, practical, but shy and boring
There is enough play in the format to make it not a complete crapshoot. Between the games where you hit Countryside Crusher or your opponent hits Denizen of the Deep, there will be enough games where you will be rewarded or punished for your decisions. One basic rule is don't make a creature while far ahead on board unless it is a 9 drop or higher since you risk hitting the aforementioned Denizen, Kederekt Leviathan, Wordgorger Dragon, Phage etc. Most people play so that they top out at eight drops since some of the best creatures are at eight. Just don't let the swings get to you if you play decently.

If that's your "casual," what on earth is required for "formal," a butler in livery shuffling the decks whilst a pianist plays Brahms in front of a tapestry?
On Google you can find some older articles. Of course, more creatures have been added to the pool since the articles were published, but the rules are the same. If you have any questions I'd be happy to share my experiences since I've played a good deal of Momir.
1) Don’t Miss Land Drops
Until you hit 8 lands unless you are in dire straights you shouldn’t miss any land drops. The only cards I can think of that I would cough up lands to with CMC under 8 are creatures that would keep me in the game if I didn’t discard. Magus of the Disk would be one example.
2) Play Defensive
This doesn’t mean don’t try to win, but it does mean don’t push if you don’t have to. Do you have a creature that could win the game in a few turns by just attacking? If you turn over a creature such as Denizen of the Deep you ruin your chance. In many cases it’s better to see if your opponent {will draw an answer or possibly punt the game to you}.
3) Don’t Sacrifice Potentially Useful Creatures
Do you have a creature that could give one of your other creatures flying? What if it costs 5 to activate? Surely you could stop an early 4-5 points of damage? But what if late in the game you get something like Ghoultree. Perhaps at that point adding to the board state isn’t as important as playing with what you have. Remember play defensive.
4) Manage the Clock
Board states in Momir Basic tend to get clogged up. Often this causes people to not attack and topdeck until someone draws a trump card (like Craterhoof Behemoth). Analyze the board when you don’t have priority. Read cards you don’t recognize on your opponent’s turn when they are tapping for Momir, when they are declaring attacks et.
Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
My blog is actually about going infinite on MODO, right now I am sticking to Momir due to budgets and the like. On my blog I have shown you need a match win percentage of roughly 60% to grind out tix on momir given that the prize packs are worth 3.4 tix, and 70% for the prize pack worth 3 tix. The blog that I post this week will probably be a statistical look at momir and my match win percentages to see if there is really skill in momir.
My preliminary results I have a sample size of 30 matches with a win precentage just over 70%, on Momir only. I don't have stats tools on hand but with a sample pool of 30 my match win percentage should be significantly different than 50% on at least the 2 sigma level (98% certain iirc). Right now I am up roughly 25 tix playing pretty much non stop over the weekend. The prize reward per time is pretty rough for two mans (I wish momir had 8 mans) so I would stick to dalies as those account for the majority (18 of) those tix.
My next blog will be posted sometime this week so keep an eye out. I will probably have some videos of basic Momir stratagies as well as some more solid stats about this.

I hate the reserved list.
Mythic rares are fine.

I've actually played quite a bit of this format lately.

I have a followup article to that one as well.
