Grixis Exhume is a reanimator deck that breaks the symmetry of the decks namesake, Exhume. This is done by using various looter effects to put cards like Ulamog's Crusher and Dragon Breath into the graveyard. Turn 2 8/8 annihilator 2 with haste wins most games in the pauper format. If you want to be reanimator or even combo in pauper, you have come to the right place.
Combo: Exhume: This is the core of the deck. You hope to find as many copies of this card in hand through out the duration of the game as possible. You can never have too many. Always run 4 copies.
Dragon Breath: A combo piece that allows us to give haste to our reanimated targets from the graveyard. Terrible in multiples but excellent when you find a single copy.
Threats: Ulamog's Crusher: This is the biggest, baddest creature you can reanimate in pauper. Sure, it is not Griselbrand or Elesh Norn but it more then adequate to win the game when deployed early. Always play 4 copies.
Hand of Emrakul: The next best creature after ulamog's crusher in terms of raw power. It costs one more mana making it exceedingly difficult to cast in the late game, one P/T less and only has annihilator 1. However it is still a reasonable option in removal light metas.
Walker of the Grove:This guy had the same P/T as Hand of Emrakul but switches out annihilator for a 4/4 body upon leaving the battlefield. Better in removal heavy metas but also uncastable in the late game.
Gurmag Angler: It is paupers favorite zombie fish! Sometimes you will target Gurmag Angler with Exhume, however he slots into the deck very easily given that we are pitching many cards to the graveyard in the early game and he can trigger Dragons Breath.
Discard Effects: Faithless Looting: This card is the best reason to be in red. It was played in all formats to enable graveyard strategies and for a good reason. It puts cards in the graveyard and two new cards in our hand. Plus it has flashback for mid to late game stalls. Always run 4 copies.
Careful Study:The next best card after Faithless Looting. Does the exact same things but in blue without flashback.
Putrid Imp: This little guy can be used to smash for 2, eat edicts, and pitch cards to the graveyard. Often very useful but you only wish to see one per a game.
Deck Manipulation: Preordain:This card is banned in modern for being too good at what it does, and that is finding the cards you need the most when you want them most. Given we are a combo deck digging for specific pieces, play 4 copies.
Brainstorm: Can be very powerful given that we run such a high number of fetch lands in the deck. Throwing away additional lands, or looting effects is great.
Support Cards: Shred Memory: This card does everything this deck wants to do, it can tutor for Exhume and it can eat problem cards out of our opponents graveyard. However it can be a little slow and double black can be difficult.
Muddle the Mixture: Similar to Shred Memory, this card can also search for Exhume, but plays a much more defensive role, protecting the threats.
Duress: A proactive plan is always a good plan. This allows us to ensure that the coast is clear for our Exhume targets and it has the UPSIDE of not being able to pick creatures. If it could select creatures we may give our opponent a target for Exhume they otherwise may not have had.
