I love lord of the pit, but I'm not a big fan of raise dead. If you're going for graveyard shenanigans I'd try Nether Shadow. It's self recurring, so you can get them in a loop to feed the demon and you don't have to put more mana or cards into it.
More generally speaking, if you're going to try animate dead, then Jalum Tome offers good synergy. You're also pretty low on threats with only the two lord of the pit and some factories to close out games. You might need to consider Sengirs or Hippies just to have something to finish the game, either that or Greed to aggressively draw into the demons.
edit: I saw your post in the Skype group. Looks like you found a couple people to play via Cockatrice.

Great points, I saw nether shadow and it makes more and more sense to use it tbh, plus it has haste.
Wasnt much of a fan of raise dead myself tbh, but didnt know how else to go about it. What do you think about my regeneration creatures?

will-o'-the-wisp is a classic. It's hard to play around and feels like a waste to use good removal on. If all you want to do is cast Lord of the Pit, it seems fine to have the others. They are just defensive though. If you want a more aggressive deck there are a lot of good mono black staples you could try. I already mentioned Sengir and Hippy, but if you'd rather controlling creatures, then Royal Assassin with Icy Manipulator or Nettling Imp come to mind. I'm actually planning on throwing together something with Yawgmoth Demon and these two little creatures are on my short list of things I might throw in, so I'm probably biased. You could also go on the Bad Moon plan and beef up your regenerating guys.
edit: I still need to sleeve it up, but this is what I think I'm doing with those Yawgmoth Demons. This one is legal by Eternal Central rules.

Nice deck!
I think im gonna put Lord Of The Pit deck on the backburner for a minute.
I just recently ordered cards for Mono-Black Land destruction/ beats and lord of the pit stuff as well
I'm not sure. I've played a few times with it now and it is a tricky beast. When it works it walks a fine line. I've had to feed chaos orb to the demon, which isn't exactly the coolest thing to do with Chaos Orb. I'm thinking of building something else entirely already. I was able to cast a colossus once though, and that was pretty cool.
We play '94 magic with these restrictions:
No cards with newer than '94 dates on them (Alpha through Fallen Empires + Book promos).
No more than 4 cards from the current vintage restricted list (too many is abusive).
We break out decks in between matches for fun. We even had a mini tournament once (that's how we came up with the 4-of restriction).

Long story short(ish), I played Magic "back-in-the-day." I stuffed my old cards in boxes when I went to college. My step mom threw most of them out. At the time, I thought she threw all of them away. A couple years ago, I found a shoe box with my old Magic cards tucked with boxes of baseball cards. It's mostly Unlimited, some Beta, most of the Arabian Nights set, Antiquities and a smattering of Legends. It's about 800 cards (counting about 150 basic lands). It's pretty much an unplanned cube.
I don't have the time or money to get back into modern Magic but I do want to play with my old cards. I'm in Iowa and have rounded up couple old high school friends who also held onto some old cards but I'd like to expand our playing circle and maybe have occasional drafts or an informal beer-fueled tournament sometime. Interested?

Also Hymn to Tourach. The lack of Hymns makes me wonder if your variant does not allow Fallen Empires?
It was not one of the sets in the original 93/94 rules, but Fallen Empires seems to be allowed in most places now. The Oldschool Vintage European Cup 2016 allowed Fallen Empires and the upcoming Eternal Central event will allow it as well (which has somewhere around 100 people preregistered for it). The original Old School blog has added some helpful information on the banned and restricted page, which points out the differences between major events, and lists the most common 'house rules'. Four out of Five of the ones referenced allow Fallen Empires. Many are also very lenient on sets allowed to make it easier for new players, and those on tight budgets to put together decks.
I've tried to keep the original post updated, but I started this thread back in 2013, and the format has changed and expanded a lot since then.
Thank you. I've been to that blog, but for some reason haven't included it. The YouTube channel is new to me. I added both. The original post has turned into a crazy index of old school content.
By the way David Montag has posted on Facebook that he has created an old school chat room over on slack. You'll need an invite to join, but it's another way for people that like this format to get together and share ideas. They have specific channels open for French and German players to communicate as well as the primary channels in English.

So how do you folks feel about Fallen Empires and 4 Strip Mines being legal? Seeing White Weenie take down a tournament of that size feels good to me. I generally prefer the Swedish rules, but my mind could be changed...
Guys, I've got a noob question concerning the 1st place WW deck. I've never seen LoA in WW decks before (and btw was so upset about holding it in a binder and not being able to play it in my only oldschool deck). Does LoA fit into WW strategy to cast everything asap?

I think it works here because of land tax. The opportunity cost of including a library is small, and if you get land tax out, getting and keeping your hand full becomes much easier.
Note this is just my opinion based on the photo as someone who has played land tax decks in the past. I have not actually seen this deck played.

I usually build my decks with only a single strip mine, but I'm open to the idea of building with 4. I'm biased though I think, as I have played my share of land destruction in the past... maybe more than my share.
As for Fallen Empires, I'm still adjusting to the idea of building with sets outside of the Swedish legality. I really like playing the CE moxes I picked up, and I'm happy to see some CE/IE cards in the pictures of decks from the Eternal weekend event, but I have a hard time putting Revised edition cards in my own decks. In fact I recently got quite upset when I received some Revised cards in the mail from PucaTrade (I was expecting Unlimited). PucaTrade took care of it, but it was quite disappointing. However seeing things like Revised Serendibs appearing at these events (in the same deck as LoA and Volcanic Island) is not only reassuring that these are generally accepted, but also shows just how difficult it can be to track down the original versions.
I think for me, putting Fallen Empires in a deck might be similar to using revised, at least at first. They are black bordered though, and they have great art. I also collected a ton of them when I was a kid. Another set that is black bordered, generally cheap, and has great art is The Dark... Accepting Fallen Empires as a legal set opens up the possibility of building my old Thrull deck with Lord of the Pit as finisher again. That would be pretty nostalgic for me, and isn't that what this format is really about (playing fun nostalgic decks)? It doesn't really bother me to see Fallen Empires cards in other people's decks, so I'll probably end up doing just that (building Thrulls).

Haven't thought about this. I might test this when I finally get my land taxes but I'm a bit afraid that it might appear to require too many conditions... anyway, can't wait to finally play LoA in my deck!
Thanka!
Fallen Empires helps white weenie too (Order of the Leitbur). Other than that, it probably exclusively helps black (Hymn, Thrulls, Order of Ebon Hand).
Although someone could try to build a Goblin deck. Hmm..
Obviously the main reason to play Goblins (other than flavor) is Goblin Grenade. Goblins get much better if opponents have Mountains, so they synergize really well with hate powerhouse Blood Moon. Blood Moon + Strip Mine should slow down the opponent from casting spells, also helping Black Vise.
I was debating whether Winter Orb should be main. It fits so well with the strategy, but I shouldn't drop the Goblin count any lower, and I don't want to cut any of the burn spells because they're better than all of the creatures (LOL).
Some of the people on the Facebook Skype group are building singleton decks. I decided to give that a shot too. (This one is kind of jank, but I thought it would be fun).
My first thought was "ugh, another singleton format" I'm not really a fan. But as I started formulating deck ideas it dawned on me that this could solve the oppressivness of things like The Deck and UR counter burn. So I think I'll start brewing.
And that is one pile o' jank. Why Elves of Deep Shadow? And what are doing with Channel? Are you even running enough artifacts to justify the Miter?

About 2:17 into the video stream there's a cool oldschool Eureka/All Hallow's Eve deck.

According to the OP, Fallen Empires is legal, so you should be playing Lord of the Pit + Breeding Pit.
Nether Shadow is of course also good fodder.

Although someone could try to build a Goblin deck. Hmm..
4 Goblin Balloon Brigade
4 Goblins of the Flarg
4 Ironclaw Orcs
3 Goblin Rock Sled
4 Goblin King
//Burn: 16
4 Black Vise
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Chain Lightning
4 Goblin Grenade
4 Blood Moon
//Mana: 22
1 Black Lotus
1 Sol Ring
1 Mox Ruby
4 Strip Mine
14 Mountain
4 Red Elemental Blast
3 Fireball
3 Shatter
1 Chaos Orb
4 Winter Orb

Fallen Empires had a really weird power level. Some cards were completely unplayable, and some were over powered. It has storage lands, lands that sac to add double mana, Icatian Javelineers, Icatian Town, Hand of Justice, Ebon Praetor, Goblin Grenade. I also used to play Goblin Kites, Goblin Warrens and Goblin War drums. There's also Force spike on legs, and preachers with island home. There are a lot of cool cards in the set, and of course Hymn to Tourach. If you want to play with them you need to get used to reading lots of small text, and some very specific types of counters.
And that is one pile o' jank. Why Elves of Deep Shadow? And what are doing with Channel? Are you even running enough artifacts to justify the Miter?
