Welcome to my Type 4 Stack. This post will represent the current list and will be updated regularly. 333 total.
Creatures: 133
I split my creatures up by color to make sure that my nonblack removal etc would not be unbalanced. I think my selections are pretty solid for the most part but take a look and see if anything sticks out to ya.
There HAS to be sweeter removal spells out there. I have some nice ones but I definitely need suggestions from you guys so throw me any ideas you have!
This is by far the most interesting category and the one with the most wiggle room. I am unsure 100% on a couple planeswalkers though. What do you guys think of my choice in which planeswalkers to exclude and would you take out or add any others? Let me know what you think. In addition, I think there may be many cards similar to the ones here but with more versatility or there might bebetter cards that I don't know about. I am really looking for lot of suggestions for this category because there are so manydifferent options.
Honestly, I had to google-down "type 4" becuase I had absolutely no idea what it meant. I am going to suggest cards according to the explanation I have read...
*Players may play spells for free (i.e., players have infinite mana)
*Each player may play only one spell per round(this serves as a limitation to balance the first rule)
*Due to these two rules, the format is also known as "Limited Infinity". Some players use additional rules, such as 'only rares and uncommons are allowed'.
My strategy would be probably draw library & kill opponent. Thus:
- Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur: I play this in reanimator and it is an awesome card. In reanimator...this card "jin & Win" I can reccomend playing it over Consecrated Sphinx since it draws you more and has an negative effect on your opponent which is something the sphinx you enlisted doesnt have. I would generally avoid playing cards that dont change the board state immediatly after they hit it - if you dont combo something.
- Chimeric Mass: I guess that with infinite mana, this is a no brainer. A friend uses it pass around pox but its literally broken in the way you are going to use.
- Dark Depths: an "additional" spell you would be able to "cast" in your turn and once again a "spell" that needs to be taken care by your opponent.
Ok, my OP was clearly a little sub-par. Allow me to correct that with this post.
- "Type 4" Rules -
Players generally play from the one central library although the stack can be drafted and players can play from separate libraries if so desired. With either method, players will be using separate graveyards and exile zones.
Each player may only cast one spell per turn.
The one spell per turn rule is avoided by cards with alternate costs such as Force of Will.
Each player has infinite Swamp, Island, Forest, Plain, and Mountain lands under their control.
Hand size is unlimited.
The starting life total is 30.
It is a fairly straightforward format meant for some good clean fun with your pals and also allows newbies to begin learning a lot of different mechanics.
Now, on to tweaking the details of THIS Type 4 Stack. I need to add 33 cards and want to do it nice and evenly and the best place to do so seems like it would be in the creature section. I like to keep the numbers balanced if you could not tell by looking. My thought was to increase the mono colored creature categories by two each, one each to the dual colored categories, add two to each of the "Shards" 3 color groups, add two to the colorless category and one to the five color category. That fills out my 33 perfectly.
The colorless creature choice is definitely a hard one with so many available possibilities. After doing some more looking i am considering the following cards.
Nullstone Gargoyle - This card just screams shenanigans. It seems like something that could be an excellent addition. Platinum Angel - While this little angel seems to be a little subpar, its hard to leave out such a classic card. Artisan of Kozilek - Not too overpowered, has immediate effects, seems like a great choice. Kozilek, Butcher of Truth - Same as the artisan of kozilek. Blightsteel Colossus - I think i want to switch out darksteel colossus for this. I realize that i have nothing to represent infect and this could be a great way to have it make a viable showing. It That Betrays - This seems to be an excellent choice as well. Solid ability, although not immediate.
I need to make one cut and i think that the butcher is one to let go. The annihilator 4 is quite beastly, perhaps too much so. It was either that or the betrayer and i like it too much.
Next up is the choices for black.
Bringer of the Black dawn - Excellent way to filter the deck to get exactly what you need. I think i shall switch out Seizan, Peverter of Truth for it. Seizan has never been too stellar in the past. Sanguine Praetor - Pretty awesome ability, all around decent card. I will trade out Abyssal Persecutor for it. The persecutor just really doesn't fit the stack. Sheoldred, Whispering One - This is an awesome card and i don't know how i have missed it in the past. It definitely needs to take the place of Magus of the Abyss. Rune-Scarred Demon - A really sweet tutor on a 6/6 flying body? Yes please. A definite add. Kalitas, Bloodchief of Get - I think this would be better to run than Visara the Dreadful. Pit Spawn - Pretty solid card to control the board. Exile is very important as well with indestructible and regenerate around. I will drop Dread for it because while its good i think its slightly outclassed. Phage the Untouchable - I like having alternate win conditions and this one seems like a cool one. Definitely going to add this card.
That leaves me with 13 black now as well as blue. Thoughts on my pics? I am going to work on my next color choices and post them subsequently. I will be editing my original post to reflect any changes.
This leaves me with 6 slots to fill in white. I have done some looking and settled on the following as the best choices to go with:
Blazing Archon - great defensive card on a solid creature. Myojin of Cleansing Fire - solid threat, nuff said. Konda, Lord of Eiganjo - I really wanted to have bushido represented in the stack and this seems like the best choice to do so. Sunblast Angel - Nice fun selective destruction. Yosei, the Morning Star - great defense card and nice to show tap abilities. Baneslayer Angel - very beast in this stack specially with the high numbers of demons and dragons.
- Green -
Dropping: Lhurgoyf - just not up to par Petrified Wood-Kin - better card to replace it Verdant Force - main purpose is token production and i am choosing to remove it in favor of a different token producer that should have more direct effect on the board.
This only leaves me with five slots to fill but this is what i am looking at:
Gaea's Revenge - wood-kin replacement Tornado Elemental - nice semi wipe/flying protection and has another useful ability. Hornet Queen - decent token producer and great defender. replacing verdant force. Moldgraf Monstrosity - card advantage = good Hydra Omnivore - just seems like a great fun choice for multiplayer shenanigans.
Greater Gargadon - with infinite lands and suspend not counting as a spell, this works nicely as a "free" spell. Fire Dragon - nice removal creature Stalking Vengeance - sweet card, i love the ability Thundermare - pseudo burn, i think it will pull suprise wins and be helpful in some situations. Godo, Bandit Warlard - I really wanted an equipment tutor and it also has the addition combat phase. while it only works for samurai, its still there to represent for red and could be useful to get in at least 3 damage here and there. Charmbreaker Devils - nice recursion and also a useful ability.
This color was hard to make pics for just now because there were so many cool choices. I think i did a decent job narrowing them down but i welcome review. I have also edited some more categories in the OP, just did not want to write out a full analysis for everything. Thank you to the mod who merged my posts, and i will keep it in mind in the future and just edit posts when available. Thank you!
EDIT: I have made decisions regarding all the different creature categories and as usual, looking for criticisms. However, my main focus now is to decide on 4 more removal cards. I would like to get that settled and update my planeswalker choices so that i can print out my list and have it all ready for FNM trading tomorrow.
Hey, I found this thread while looking for other Type 4 picks. I got some really interesting ones. I like how you have a strict limit with colours, its something I foregone in response for pure power. I'll admit I stole some of your picks.

I would generally avoid playing cards that dont change the board state immediatly after they hit it - if you dont combo something.
- Kozilek, Butcher of Truth: draws 4, anihilates 4
- Emrakul, the Aeons Torn: better then kozilek, cannot be countered, anihilates. 6
- Aladdin's Lamp: probably best filters your draw
- Chimeric Mass: I guess that with infinite mana, this is a no brainer. A friend uses it pass around pox but its literally broken in the way you are going to use.
- Dark Depths: an "additional" spell you would be able to "cast" in your turn and once again a "spell" that needs to be taken care by your opponent.
- "Type 4" Rules -

Now, on to tweaking the details of THIS Type 4 Stack. I need to add 33 cards and want to do it nice and evenly and the best place to do so seems like it would be in the creature section. I like to keep the numbers balanced if you could not tell by looking. My thought was to increase the mono colored creature categories by two each, one each to the dual colored categories, add two to each of the "Shards" 3 color groups, add two to the colorless category and one to the five color category. That fills out my 33 perfectly.
Concerning blue, i think Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur takes the pick between the two cards mentioned for sure. For the second addition to blue i was looking at Chancellor of the Spires. I think it would be an excellent choice. I had thought Dark Depths was too strong, but now i think it will go well. Also, Aladdin's Lamp is replacing the Sceptor of Insight.
- White -
Dropping:
Iona, Shield of Emeria - Not viable very often.
Conqueror's Pledge - redundant and generally inferior to Storm Herd
Glory - too good when it ends up in the graveyard. it spells instant win.
Archon of Justice - just not good enough.
- Green -
Dropping:
Lhurgoyf - just not up to par
Petrified Wood-Kin - better card to replace it
Verdant Force - main purpose is token production and i am choosing to remove it in favor of a different token producer that should have more direct effect on the board.
This only leaves me with five slots to fill but this is what i am looking at:
Gaea's Revenge - wood-kin replacement
Tornado Elemental - nice semi wipe/flying protection and has another useful ability.
Hornet Queen - decent token producer and great defender. replacing verdant force.
Moldgraf Monstrosity - card advantage = good
Hydra Omnivore - just seems like a great fun choice for multiplayer shenanigans.
- Red -
Dropping:
Hamletback Goliath - beastly but underpowered as the stack has developed.
Knollspine Dragon - potentially awesome but all too often a dead/subpar card.
Conquering Manticore - while i like it, the ability is similar to that of Bringer of the Red Dawn and i like the bringer better.
Jaya Ballard, Task Mage - same general use as bloodfire colossus but slower.
This leaves me 6 open spots.
Greater Gargadon - with infinite lands and suspend not counting as a spell, this works nicely as a "free" spell.
Fire Dragon - nice removal creature
Stalking Vengeance - sweet card, i love the ability
Thundermare - pseudo burn, i think it will pull suprise wins and be helpful in some situations.
