I've been looking on here for almost a week now, expecting at some point to see a thread discussing the UGw Blink-Goyf deck that seems to have emerged from the combination of the previous UG Goyf and UW Goyf decks.
It was mentioned in Frank Karsten's article last week. Here's the deck he posted:
Anyone discussing this anywhere? If not, I think we should start.
Both Karsten and William Spaniel (from another site) agreed that the Vesuvan Shapeshifters were unnecessary, and that the Mystic Enforcers from the SB would be better off in the maindeck instead. I agree with this to some extent, although the proven usefulness of the 'shifters makes me reconsider.
Also, 4 copies of Llanowar Reborn seems like too much. It's a pretty amazing card, but how many turns do you want to be playing a land that comes into play tapped? There are already 4 Terramorphic Expanses in the deck, making the CIP-tapped land total a whopping 8. I would think this could affect tempo drastically. I've been thinking it might be better to have 3 TE's and 2 LR's. Karsten advocated the use of Chromatic Star, which would allow us to cut back a bit on lands anyway, not to mention providing another +1/+1 for our 'goyfs.
I'm curious as to other peoples opinions on this deck.
Ok, here seems a better place for it anyways. I've been advocating UGw blink decks since early june and even had an article on the topic over at tcgplayer (won 100$ for it too nonetheless ) I personally prefer a list that is a meld between a UG shifter list and a UW blink list (see the UW blink thread for my deck lists) then one that is made to abuse tarmagoyf with a blink package thrown in. I don't run Llanowar reborns as the deck is hungry enough for mana as it is and come into tapped with 8 lands sucks. As well, the nimbus mazes might as well be a plains and a horizon canopy as with the W source count, you'll probably only have it as a plains anyways(and the chance of it colorless isn't worth it).
Looters seem slow and edge of autmn would probably be a better bit (3rd turn snake into blink + morph = amazing)
Maelstrom djinn is amazing in a deck with 4 blinks and 4 shapeshifters (hardcast on a flipped up djinn to get a 5/6 flyer for 5. Or blink djinns for a 5/6 easy.
I don't like the riftsweepers as they end up as a bear too often for my liking though I like them vs URb void control.
It's not much different, but I fit the Chromatic Stars in, along with Mystic Enforcer in place of the Shapeshifters. I'm going to be testing some tonight, I'll try to post some experiences.
Asher lost to this deck in the swiss rounds with predator. This might be one of the few decks that can actually boast a solid match-up againsst the predator deck. It's because of this that I'm going to be testing it today. Here's the list I'm going into testing.
