So a quick test with this list tonight saw me go 7-0 and finally reach 1800 rating
2-0 vs U/W, 1-0 vs mono B infect, 2-0 vs mirror, 1-0 vs R/U control and 1-0 vs WW aggro
Very happy so far, any questions on boarding or choices I would be happy to discuss it
I'm mostly interested in what you are pulling out against certain matchups.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
What was it that killed you in the matches you lost? Also, I would not play 4 hellkite. While Wurmcoil can be revoked, any other method of removing it gives you tokens. On the other hand, with Steel hellkite, a 2 mana spell kills your day, along with a simple scrapmelter. I think 1 or two is the right call.
1 game I kept a bad draw, 1 game I was getting beat down by a Carnifex Demon and had to use a Reins on it, then he played Venser next turn, and the other 2 games my turn 3 mana guy was answered by a Tumble Magnet.
Thats all I have got for now. If you want any other matchups let me know.
I guess you aren't seeing enough Big Red decks to matter. For the mirror what are you looking to counter most? Acceleration, or Threats?

That's unlikely. I ran that exact list and ran in two DE's, going 2-2 each time. All 4 losses were to Koth Red decks. It's like they're unintentionally designed specifically to beat this deck >.<

Thanks for the sideboarding schema. With a better understanding of a few matches I was able to go 3-1 with this last night, with my loss being against a UW control deck.

Thanks for your help, monk. I put this deck together as my first ever constructed deck. After spending a while in the practice room, I went out to the 2-mans last night and had a disappointing 2-3 performance. The mana seemed bad, as I would draw a ton of mana in hands that had accelerants, or just threat after threat when I started without much mana.
But I suppose that was just the randomness of the draw. Today I tried again and went 6-0! A total performance of 8-3 is pretty good, I think.
One change I made: I changed the Volition Reins in the sideboard out for a Steel Hellkite. In the rounds where Hellkite can stick (infect, glint hawx, mirror) he can really wreck the opponent, and also provides some flying defense. I usually wanted to draw him if I wasn't playing red or white control.
How do you feel about mulligans? I usually keep if I have a castable-spell plan with two of (mana accelerators, threats, and/or counters). But I feel pretty out of my depth sometimes. I've never played constructed before so this is a learning experience =). There doesn't seem to be enough room in an opening hand to have everything the deck wants.
Finally... Glimmerpost. It's put me off blue more than once, but I don't think I've ever felt the life gain. Is it there for the WW aggro matchup?

Don't play any Glimmerposts. The lifegain is somewhat nice, but always having access to blue mana is more important. In particular, against UW (the most played deck in the format), you need to be able to play a threat and leave countermagic up as well. When the threat you are playing is Volition Reins or Argent Sphinx (which is a rather blue hungry card with the blink ability) that Glimmerpost looks pretty atrocious. Also, Grand Architect's "turn blue" ability is extremely useful and you will often want to use it as many times as possible while still leaving counter magic up.
I tend to be pretty loose with the deck, but as a rule you should have something to do on turn 3 (something includes a counterspell). Even multiple Sphinxes is not a very good hand if you don't have something to do before then.
Not decided on a board yet but really wanna test this list, it should be faster than most and hopefully not run out of gas thanks to golem + image. If anyone wants to test please add me (monk1410) on MTGO, I will let you know tomorrow.
If you have any suggestions please let me know
The mana seems a lot smoother this way. Precursor Golem is pretty sweet against a few decks, but has it's problems against red/white or red/green (I'm terrified of it getting hit with Slice in Twain). However since most of the sideboard is designed to beat aggro decks it's more difficult to hide the Golem's problems against the wrong matchup.
I find that I usually lose because my threats get removed the turn I play them. What do you think about cutting 1-2 Myr, and/or 1 Twisted Image for 2-3 Turn Aside? Perhaps it's more of a sideboard card. But, since we're playing the best threats, it makes sense to me to be more focused on protecting them than saying no to opponent's threats. Against almost every deck except U/W or B/W/u flicker control I would rather stop removal than guys.
Feel free to add me (furikawari) too.
PS: MTGO is broken at least a bit with Golem. In my most recent game it got hit with a Grasp of Darkness, which I countered, but the copy effect didn't do anything. According to Cranial Insertion, that's wrong. Maybe my opponent had to choose 2 targets for the copies but didn't?

Woot! So I'm not the only one who's had this problem. I've reported it twice, don't know when it'll get fixed. It seems if you counter the the spell before the copy trigger resolves, the game thinks the Golem is Ink-Treader Nephilim and fails to find other targets. Obvious copied code is obvious.

Why would that card work any differently? Shouldn't the spell be copied on the trigger of the Nephilim too?

Maybe, but if they copied the code over from a different interaction, that would explain why it's not working here. Likely, they re-used over the code that copies spells cast on Ink-Treader, and then inserted a "look for other [CARDTYPE]." If some value in the object still thinks it was targeting a Nephilim, it would explain why the copy effect doesn't hit the other Golems. Most likely this is only in the case where the copy effect uses last known information (ie you counter the spell that triggered the effect).
We can't know without seeing the code, but Yoshi probably got it right and they didn't clean up some interaction coded previously to work properly here.
Here's my list. I decided to tweak the threat density a bit, as I felt that the best plan was simply to overrun the opponent with threats. Hellkite made the cut despite his weakness to removal because the deck needs more fliers, and because he's pretty much game over if he sticks.
Is anyone else having trouble with B/R? It has been an absolutely horrid match-up in my opinion. Any advice?
Concede early so you have time to make a sammich before the next round
No but really, it is rough. That match usually comes down to Volition Reins and Wurmcoil Engine for me, or just hoping I can put out more threats than they have removal for.

These threads usually have a wealth of knowledge in them. If you want to learn a deck better skim through them. It's only 5 pages. This was 1-2 pages back.

Did you lower the count of islands because of riddle smith? Do you ever get low on mana when they kill your riddle smith early? Also why did you choose not to play steel hellkite at all? Isn't it game if they don't have removal for him?

i personally have a u/b variant bc it gives u access to skinrender and grasp of darkness, both great in block and with darkslick shores the splash is easy.
Hi guys. I just wanted to let you in on some tech. Plated Seastrider
I've seen people play it, but honestly what does it do? Provide 2 mana thats hard to remove? Beats for 4 if you target it with Twisted Image?

maybe we can up the count for precursor golems and twisted images to 4 each if we play 4x plated seastrider? With architect out, he beats for 5 when twisted.

Are the Silver Myrs really that great? Maybe I have more testing to do, but I've been doing fine without them -- although I feel my views may be skewed due to limited experience.

I would think Wurmcoil Engine would make the cut here due to the amount of Big Red seeing play.
