One of my local stores is going to be hosting a block constructed tournament with a twist. Basically, you can build a deck using only Zendikar block or using only Scars block but I don't know where to start. My initial impression is that Zendikar decks will be faster and have better mana fixing but Scars decks will have a lot of powerful late game cards. Which block is better and what deck should be built from it?
Allies - since Zen block is allies-heavy ('cept RoE, although you can find cards that still support the theme), you can build around many archetypes. The most common build i saw is WR / UR / RUG / RG, yada yada... Its up to you really.
Landfall (possibly Boros, but any combination could work out)
RUG (If JTMS is legal, anyway) - This is, i think the strongest build in Zen...because of JTMS. 'nuff said.
- I suggested Allies & Landfall because they're the themes of Zen block, and easy to build around. You can also play Levelers, although I am not sure if it can battle against the field (which includes the Scars block).
Scars Block:
Tempered Steel - the most favorite in the format, it's fast, & consistent. I would suggest build this. The only problem you would be facing is artifact & enchantment removals.
WW/Puresteel - Another favorite. There's not much i can say here, since i don't play this deck yet in Constructed formats.
RUG doesn't have the titans in Zen block. Red doesn't give you much, straight up U/G turbolands with Avenger and Jace and Oracle is pretty damn good though.
i would use a scars GU poison deck with dismembers.
I would also try to make something with birthing pods, but that's just because i like birthing pod.
I set aside some cards today and thought that a G/B birthing pod deck would be good. I think I will go with that but I also want to try out the G/U turboland deck suggested by Andy.
I think the best two decks you can pick are G/U turboland or Tempered steel.
There's also UW control from zen block with Gideon and Jace. Because of the fixing in zen, that would probably work better than the UB scars control and can probably keep up with Tempered steel. (Tectonic edge > nexus, Hello Day of judgement!)

Some facts of magic:
-Terror is an emotion which, when experienced, results in death.
-The pox was a disease notorious for having killed one-third, rounded up, of Europe’s population. Smallpox, on the other hand, killed only a single person.
-A person riding a horse cannot be stopped by foot soldiers, large animals, walls, archers, or even catapults.
RUG is probably the most powerful deck (Jace, Cobra, Avenger, etc.) but it probably has a horrible Tempered Steel matchup. Tempered Steel is cheap and was all over the Scars block PT so I wouldn't play RUG. The Zendikar Block Boros deck might not be bad.

UB Control
Why not?
