I've been wanting to try out the Haruspex. Still haven't pulled off the haruspex + Champion + Butcher of the Horde combo, but one can dream
There's always Monastery Swiftspear and Mardu Skullhunter in a speedier build.
I just hope we'll get some better burn in upcoming sets; I think it would help this kind of deck get some reach.
Surprisingly, it's not doing bad. I've beaten a couple Mardu decks and a Jeskai deck. Lost against an Abzan but, if I had a SB I could put I more Murderous Cut and some Rakshasa's Secret and I think it'll work pretty well. Sure, if I were running white i'd have access to better removal but, cutting to two colors allows a better manabase and a quicker overall deck. Swiftspear might not be a bad call. If skullhunter didn't come into play tapped it'd be a good call. Not so much though, it doesn't fit the sligh build. The new set gives us another Phoenix and possibly replace War-namewith the 3/2 firststrike(if I have a red permanent).
I think the new phoenix will be better in this deck than Ashcloud.
Regarding Skullhunter, it comes down on 2 (or 3) and you generally aren't blocking anyway. Yes Warname is better because normally it's a 3/2, but that's a demanding curve.
Just for fun (and maybe sideboard), have you considered either Hordling Outburst or Goblinslide. (I'm thinking to feed swarm).

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
Actually, i'm planning on running both phoenixs' since you need power 4 or greater for the new guy to return. As to the sullhunter point, I already made a change. -4 Duress +4 Swiftspear to curve out better and -1 Swarm for a third Murderous Cut. I will update the OP. Running only 15 non-creature spells, Goblinside probably isn't the best call. Now, a Jeskai control deck... Hordeling Outburst, I may have to find a spot for, at least in the side.
Cards I'm excited about for this deck from next set(so far):
Flamewake Phoenix
Wild Slash
Battle Brawler - Change for War Name
Brutal Hordechief - Change for Swarm
Possibly, Palace Siege.
Outpost Siege is straight up CA for a red deck. As far as this deck goes, I see it going a lot more black.

Are you good with rulings? If you refer to the Mono Red thread that one guy started, I was thinking about that spoiled card with Act of Treason. The one that draws two cards and switches controllers. Would you retain control after the fact?
As far as Siege, yes, it is card advantage but, it crowds the curve which may be detrimental to a sligh-type deck. Not sure yet though.

I like the interaction between Bloodsoaked Champion and Ashcloud Phoenix with Grim Haruspex and Swarm of Bloodflies. Any thoughts?
