Okay, so tomorrow magic-league has a trial whose format is "Block Party" - which means you use a deck comprised of cards from any one block. The only thing is, everyone can pretty much bring their own block, so it's a mish-mash of the best decks of different Block Constructed eras.
Now, since I have nothing to do at those times, and this seems like an interesting format, I figure I'll try it out. Now, I need some help in choosing a deck that you think will be able to hold its own against the good Block Constructed decks (which are, well... a LOT). Comparison seems impossible at this point (and add to that I really don't know anything about Block Constructed with the Onslaught blocks and beyond), so I just really want a deck I haven't picked up in a while to play. Or at least a good start on what sets I can play with.
Looking at their archives it seems top decks have been Jund (Shards-Conflux-Reborn) and Faeries (Lorwyn-Shadowmoor blocks). Really don't want to end up there, though I used Jund before so at least I know how that feels. I'd prefer older sets, though, so I can get to know more of the cards.
I don't know. I think Fae could likely disrupt Pros-Bloom because it uses so many sorceries and the mana is so tight.
Both Odyssey Block (UG Madness), and TSP Block (UB Control/Pickles) had rather strong block format decks. 4 Color Jund with Ajani Vengeant was also pretty strong.
All 3 of those decks transposed over to standard nearly in tact.
Pros Bloom existed in a format that was void of competitive blue decks. It had to run Abeyance to fight in standard.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
If you're not using the DCI B&R list for Block Constructed, then your best possible deck would probably be using Tolarian Academy, the free mechanic, and Stroke of Genius.
In summation.....Star Trek wins a prolonged naval battle against superior, yet less technologically advanced, numbers, with Picard leading the assault, while Kirk takes your soul by laying out Solo and probably his manservant Chewy as well, before impregnating and ditching your Princess.
We play Block-party in my area quite often, at least once a month with DCi sanction. It was first a European trend, but has come state side in recent years..
The 'rule' is that each block deck must be legal IN its corresponding block. This, of course, means that affinity is not playable as its major components are banned in its respective block. One guy whined and complained about this, who of course brought his illegal affinity deck hoping to auto-win the tournament. We let him play, just for the heck of it. My Ice-age LD deck [12 pieces of ld main], faeries and even elves make a mockery of his deck. block-affinity is only good with a near-perfect starting hand.. otherwise, it gets shut-down too easily IMHO.

Jace isn't banned in Zendikar block, so he's perfectly legit to play along with stoneforge mystic; however, the only good equipment target in that block is Basilisk collar.. so I don't see that being such the well favored deck.
I have a block deck [or few] from almost every set, as block is my personal favorite and the one that I always keep up on.
If there's no ban-list how could you not go academy, like over half the cards are banned from that deck in block.. and legacy, lol
True Story:
After having not played magic for 6 months, I wanted to join a tourny last minute, my friend was judging and let me use his academy deck, this was right after saga came out.
Having never seen the deck or the cards in the format I played my first match. I ended up rolling everyone and easily winning the tournament against players way better than me who would routinely beat me in most tournaments.
It was like first turn, voltaic key, second turn, grim monolith worn power stone, 3rd turn academy, 10 mana, tinker, colossus colossus, ect
it was the most broken constructed deck in any format ever I dare say.
