Hello,my kid loves magic,he has an old magic game from the 90's he plays on the computer and he really wants to play on MTGO.I was thinking about buying him an account and buying a burn deck for him since he's becoming quite proficient with my paper version(his favorite deck).
My problem is he's only 8 yrs old and I am debating whether he's to young for it or not.
What are some people's thoughts? Is it a good idea or is he too young still?
Thanks.
I don't necessarily think there is an age too young. If your son is good enough to pilot the deck in paper, and is proficient enough to handle computer programs in general, he will probably be fine. It may be worthwhile to get him the deck and have him play a few "solitaire" games to get used to the UI and understand that there is a timer in MTGO that can cause game losses.
Is the plan for him to just play casual games and to always play burn? Will he ever want to change the deck, or change to a different deck, which might increase money spent on the platform? MTGO can be a money sink if you let it so it is something to be wary of.
The other thing I would do is have him close the chat window whenever he plays against someone. Normally, it is not a bad idea to get him used to talking to others, even online, and start with a "gl, hf" comment, but there are enough people (not a majority by any means) that can throw around profanity or insults and closing the chat window initially shields him from some of that. If you think he can handle this, that is fine, but it is something to think about.

There's a chance Wizards may say something about this Magic Digital Next that has been rumored about.
In the meantime, get your kid to play Magic Duels for free or a modded Duels of the Planeswalkers 2014 with all the cards.
