What is the consensus on Archfiend of Ifnir? A giant flying body that can shrink anything the opponent gets out seems pretty awesome but is it better to just prioritize 1-mana cyclers?

So I only own 3 Fulminator Mages. I was thinking of running a beast within as Fuliminator mage #4. Also 19 or 20 lands? Also should I run 4 demonic dread or 3.
you should try to get the 4th copy. if you cant you could always replace it with avalanche riders or another one mana cycler

the archfiend is kinda hit or miss. it cycles, have decent stats and useful utility stapled on it. but in the other hand speed is everything in modern.
what i notice is is either you bring 4 of them or don't bring any copy at all, also pay attention to your local meta. archfiend of ifnir is excellent for decks life affinity that tries to go sideways with small toughness creature
I doubt we are going to see even better cyclers but who knows.
the G cyclers is absent in amonkhet. also they may print cards that have special effect when cycled (deem worthy, renewed faith). lets hope that they print more card like shefet monitor
Holy *****, this seems nuts and can gain a ****ton of life. Anyone know of the particular rulings concerning ant-lifegain cards and the mechanics of life totals switching without using the "gain life" phrase?
edit: ah crap, it still gets hit by skullcrack and command
Dusting off my deck and updating it for a slew of Modern PPTQs in July and August. Wondering what the current sideboard plan is for Dredge. It doesn't seem to be worth it to pack 4x Leyline, but is Faerie Macabre and maybe Jund Charm out of the board enough? Wondering if we should be considering the original tech and bringing in Yixlid Jailer as a 1 of to cascade into. Most Dredge anti-hate cards hit enchantments and artifacts, other than Conflagarate.
^leyline of the void. sounds like you would have devoted the same number of cards slots to a combination of faerie macs and jund charm anyways.

I believe WoTC's new policy is to make sure that every color can enjoy the exciting gameplay mechanic of making undercosted dudes and then turning them sideways. Clearly the future of magic.

I would say our creatures are so much bigger and better now that you dont need any special dredge hate card. Those faeries with help of the Archfiend will do just fine.
I don't think the issue here is creature quality but rather speed and gameplan. Dredge's ability to just nut pre turn 3 even with GGT ban is still a thing to worry about, yes faeries are good in mitigating the initial burst of the deck but it's more of a speedbump than a hoser.
Another thing to remember is that dredge's creature suite grinds very well even through multiple board wipes and conflagrate is easy to set up in the GY and can be consistently reused with their dredgers, especially life from the loam.
I would aproach the matchup with Faerie Macabre and Violent Outburst as tempo. Dredge is not that good blocking (Bloodghasts can't, and Amalgams come into play tapped), and now LE is capable of killing in one swing with the new dudes. Faeries and Outburst can give you a window to do that, you just need to do it at the right time (that's the difficult part ). If Dredge can grind, then don't grind

I've only seen one card spoiled with the cycling mechanic thus far. I'm getting worried boys.

RE: Renzz
you go around and ask everyone what they are playing then go to your binder then sb accordingly. but seriously tho, I have given up on coming up with the perfect catch all/well rounded SB. what you have listed is fine except you might find the burn match up difficult but find other match ups a breeze because of the 4x shrieks. I don't have a single ricochet trap and just hope to dodge remands and accept my loss when I play against control.

If you don't play Mainboard faerie or Archfiend of Ifnir, Leyline definitely comes in in my experience. Even if you play these, I would probably board in some number of Leylines, depending on what you can cut (Leyline is better than Architects of Will, Fulminator Mage and Beast Within (though I like to have at least 5 answers to Canonist/Relic, so 1 Beast + 4 Chewer is pretty decent), but I'm not sure it's better than Monstrous Carabid if you already have a bunch of Archfiends and Faeries). You mostly can't win against a resolved Ravager in a decent Affinity draw, so you have to have an answer.
