As we all know the Storm MU is abysmal for Tron. We have tried everything from Discard to RiP and Clocking them with Beatdown but nothing really worked.
It shuts down Grapeshot as well as Goblin Tokens, weakens the already weak beatdown plan of Storm and is even useful in some other MUs aswell (All small swarm decks basically). This is all under the premise that you are not playing RG, then you obviously have Pyroclasm. Since my switch to GW i always missed some sort of baordwipe because pathing Lingering Souls Tokens just feels horrible.
Granted, you can not play the Armor without Tron online but the same can be said for Karn, Ugin etc. Our deck does what it does pretty consistently. Another upside of the armor is you can grab it with a Stirrings if need be. On paper i am pretty sold on the Armor against Storm.
I will be on a bigger tournament tomorrow (abt. 70-80 people playing modern) and i expect a fair amount of storm as it seems to be the flavor of the month deck and is rather cheap to build. Will report back how the Armor worked out for me
I just came back, went 5-2 finishing 9th place in a 68 player tournament.
"They have 4 Remands" is an argument you can bring against literally any card. Karn: They play 4 Remands, he's bad.
Echoing Truth, fair enough i know they play it. But i doubt they bring it in against Tron in Game 2. Yes they play artefact hate but imo this is the "Dies to Doomblade" situation. Make them have it and buy yourself time.
Against the whole field the Orbs also did some work for me. Against Scapeshift, Melira Company and the new, let's call it, "Ballista Company". It simply shut them all down completely.
I for one will keep the Orbs of Warding as a 2-Of in my SB for some time and do further testing. They really did some great work for me!
For "Scapeshift, Melira Company and the new, let's call it, "Ballista Company"." I'd think I'd want to max out on Warping Wails before thinking about orbs of warding. Instant speed, fraction of the cost, not susceptible to echoing truth or ancient grudge.
Not much against Storm (counter the flashback'd past in flames to buy you a turn perhaps) but in GW you have Rule of Law effects for that if you want.
*EDIT V, that too! I wouldn't play orbs until I had 4x Wapring Wail and 4x relic in the 75.

I have seen a Storm player managing to combo-kill through 2 Relic of Progenitus. It just buys time. Orbs of Warding instead is a must-answer hard lock for them, and combined with Relic and some pressure gives you more of an edge.
Though I prefer Boil as an allrounder against blue decks, but it has become somewhat worse since the Khaladesh fastlands. But Orbs of Warding would be in my consideration when facing a meta with a lot of Storm.
Edit: Thorn of Amethyst and Trinisphere are also worth mentioning, though those tax you as well.

You might want to read orbs of warding more carefully.
it only stops creature damage. It also costs 5 mana, so you're better off with witchbane orb.
They sometimes bring in platinum emperion combo from the sideboard as well.

I have to agree that Orbs of Warding is a lot better than Witchbane Orb for us.
The creature damage reduction is rarely relevant, that is true. But when you're facing down any kind of swarm deck as GW Tron with "only" maximum 8 sweepers (4 ugin, 4 O-Stone) they have a decent shot at killing you. So it rarely matters but when it does it's amazing.
I play-tested Orbs of Warding for a bit yesterday. It was great! I brought it in the first three matches I played (Goblin Charbelcher combo, Scapeshift, Vizier Druid combo).
I was able to land Pithing Needles and Orbs vs Charbelcher combo games 2 and 3 to buy enough time to decimate them with Ulamog and Karn.
Similar story for the Vizier Druid combo. Lost game 1, but Orbs and Pithing Needles bought me enough time game 2 and 3 to secure the victory.
Scapeshift opponent didn't see Orbs of Warding coming game 2, which gave me the win (I won game 1 chaining 3 Karn's in a row).
I brought them in vs. burn, but never got a chance top play them.
I ordered some in paper and am planning on testing them out at FNM, too.
Basically i jammed it into the Thragtusk/Extra Removal slot. In RG i would normally run a Crumble or two and Thragtusks instead of Timely Reinforcement and Blessed Alliance.
I play modern belcher in paper, stop the mana ramp and the deck is dead in the water, its fun but a glass cannon.
Has anyone tried doubling season with walking ballista and endless one?
I've been mucking around with it a bit, have four of each MB with two seasons and it's pretty quick at killing.Synergizes with wurmcoil and o-stone and allows ugin's ultimate the turn it comes out.(i run ugin, the spirit dragon no karn liberated.)

Not a big fan of karn, always found ugin to be superior in more MU's for its boardwipe ability. With doubling season it doesn't ultimate the turn it comes out either like ugin does.
On turn three your not playing karn if sanctum is out and tron isn't online yet.You wait till turn four, turn four you can cast ugin and use sanctum too.
It's just preferance really, and with the local decks the boardwipe is handier than the exile from karn and karn hardly ever gets to ultimate.
A buddy and I have been testing tron vs abzan druid heavily, myself I've been trying the d.season ballista tron and he's running abzan.Ugin, relic, warping wail, ratchet bomb and sundering titan are what I have been doing on top of the usual o.stone, world breaker and explosives on two.
Tough match either way,I think it's worse after SB.

Now this card crossed me: Urza's Armor

Belcher in Modern? wat? Please elaborate. I have never seen or heard of this before. Do you have a link to a list?
PS: Maybe i am missing out on some new up and coming combo deck we should prepare for. I am not keeping up with the meta that well.

Why no Karn Liberated? It's the best thing we can play on turn 3 and triggers Sanctum of Ugin.

It's not too bad. Pre-board, Collective Brutality/Path to Exile/Pyroclasm/Kozilek's Return deal enough damage to Devoted Druid and Vizier of Remedies to prevent combo. That said, they can go off T3 (T1 mana dork, into T2 Devoted Druid, into T3 Vizier of Remedies), then they can Chord of Calling for anything they want or try to hit something with Collected Company if they have either in hand.
Assuming you have the mana, you can also hold up Oblivion Stone.
Post-board, I bring in Orbs of Warding, and Pithing Needle to shut down Devoted Druid and/or Walking Ballista.
Anyone here playing at GP Copenhagen? I just made it to Day 2 after a 2 - 3 standing.
