Its just not good tempo, You either wait turns(and use turns to activate it)
Its too slow in merfolk. I explained earlier^ If you play it on turn three(seeing as it doesnt get countered) you are looking at trying to claim victory on turns 6+ which can be difficult for you can't counter out Control decks as well, with Leak/Pierce, and other Aggro decks draw their removal.
You have potential island walkers and Rejeerey Taps down potential Blockers, there really no need for it. Merfolk have the potential they need.
You play Shackles in a deck that has time for it, that can counter spells and wait for better things,

I will be streaming my Daily's soon, I'll start it up tonight.
There is a 6:30 Daily and a few TNMO's. I guess I will post the link to it here when Its up.
Probably a 7-10 Minute Delay.
Has anyone played around with splashing white? Both Sejiri Merfolk and meddling mage are two drops, meaning they fit in with the aether vial at 2 counters strat.
Thats very close to my list! well minus the Master's until he gets printed
Isn't it good?
fine from my testing. we probably tweaked from the same list. The added lords help alot, espically when siding in the spreading seas, which I might add won me a death and taxes game, because I color screwed him... and swung unblockably.
I don't think the lord actually brings the deck "over the edge" but keeping the vial ticked to 2 and no higher is a HUGE plus.
I started to hate challace, so I replaced it for real kill. Dunno if that was the right move but I like dismember.

I actually feel like I should do the same, but
I once Mulliganed to 4 against Affinity
No land,
Vial,Chalice, Silvergil, Spell pierce Kept it,
Dropped Chalice for 0
He played an darksteel citadel, and a signal pest, then a spring-leaf drum.
I didn't get land for two turns, and still won.
Like its only good versus RDW(slightly) and Affinity
There are U/W fish Decks, that dont run a giant set of Lords, Just Coral-helms, Lord of Atlantis's. Path to exile, Cosi, Sejiri, and whatever hatebears like Meddling mage. It could very well work.
My blue casual version of Merfolk, so fun to play..I know not really developping competitive but win a couple of competitive matchups...with the new new M13 Lord of Atlantis
My favorite Opponent's Turn 3 at the moment is : (With Sygg in play) Opponent play shockland untapped (2 damages), cast 3cc creature, end of turn...I play Vapor Snag for the 3rd damage on 3cc creature, I draw 1...my turn...
God I like those turns...Happens quite often...
Honorable mention to Tron/Emrakul Matchup...I really like to watch them try to get rid of Aether Spellbomb...so much fun...Delay add some flavor to it...so much work to fight a 1cc artifact...
Okay I feel like I should give my decklist and let you guys rip it apart. With the new lord I know exactly what I'm going to play in modern for a while now. I wanted some sort of looting ability but not using merfolk looter. I'm not sure splashing red would be worth it but I will find out the hard way I guess.
I'm starting to like 4 Spreading Seas in Merfolk again. Having an army of evasive Merfolk (8 LoAs, Coralhelm, Reejeery on a good day) is so awesome, and Spreading Seas stomps on manlands.
I am starting to think Merfolk should emphasize on evasion, rather like Affinity.
^list I'd probably run on mtgo, as I already have everything but the creatures. Cosi's trickster seems really good in the format atm, what with everyone running 6+ fetchlands. I can see her hitting at least a 4/4 by turn 3. Merfolk's mini goyf in my opinion. Combine with path to exile for mad value.
Does Spreading Seas stop Tron, or is it still also considere to be an Urza's X for te other two lands? I assume it loses all information, right?
Its the ONLY way to stop tron.
It can help in aggro matches, I won plenty of times off of it,
But I will admit, its there mostly for tron.
If you get multiples the best thing to do is to wait to use it until they are just about to have the set, so he has 2 of the three lands down, then its time to play S.S, preferably on Urza's Tower
If you get multiples(by the gods hope for them) keep S.S.ing the same land, it makes their chances(unless they search) very low of drawing the set.
It is the only way to counter their land drops, unless your running Ghost Quarter, but then you must not be running Mutavaults, and thats not very good at all. Mutavaults win games,
Also, Negate is really really strong against RG tron. You counter their Karns, Mindslavers, AIDs, Oblivion Stones, Pierce is very weak against tron, so consider siding that out.

Ive kind of wanted to try Pongify
I like him as a 2-of. I'm a huge fan of Psionic Blast. It gives us more reach, and we can race other aggro decks.
I, of course, am cute, and run Stonybrook Banneret and Sage's Dousing for a Wizard subtheme. I like it quite a bit.
Shamanism does that sort of thing too. I'd suggest snapcaster (who is a wizard) and familiar's ruse
