@debpj when do you bring them in? Do you expect those decks to be in high attendance or you feel you can scoot by without worrying about them? I don't run them, but I know they can be valuable particularly against infect and burn.
I bring the full pack of Spellskites (three in my case) against Burn, Infect, Twin, Bogles and UWR, I feel like it reinforces those matchups a lot. How do you do against that matchups without Spellskite? Are there any better cards to fight those decks?
For Burn and Infect I bring my chalices of the void in.
I bring in my chalices as well, I only have 2 in the sideboard but it does well enough. I also bring in my Spell Pierces which I have 3 of. If I played against Bogles then I would likely bring in chalice as well, it just isn't played much at all in my area. Infect and Burn are big and I can say chalice does quite well against both, I have done some testing with Monastery Siege on and off, it helps alot against Burn and is largely useless against infect.
If I had to pick between chalice and spellskite I would probably pick chalice since it is more useful against a larger number of decks. Having a chalice at 1 can help against Inquisition and Thoughsieze where spellskite doesn't
I have had quite success with the list I posted before guys, it is really solid and well rounded, test it out and see. I feel covered against almost all of the decks around there, unfortunately I don't have much time to test it out on big tournaments.
I don't know how worried we should be about Volley, combust already doesn't see that much play and it has the advantage of at least killing a rhino. If twin becomes more popular maybe it will show up in more sideboards, but if burn puts it in their sideboard it honestly doesn't change much...they can already kill our creatures pretty easily.
No, standard was streamed unfortunately...but still! It's a top 8 and legacy merfolk managed to get in the top 12 so it was a good weekend for Merfolk
I think it is just that with abzan and sultai on the rise which means there are alot of abrupt decays floating around, Kira is looking really terrible. Making them pay 4 for abrupt decay is pretty sweet...kira very rarely got in for damage anyway, she basically needed to be answered.
Super close to the counter/Siege List I posted earlier, but instead of 3 Sieges he went to the sensible 2. (I still would run 3 like in my version as they are all 'live').
I like the addition of Tec Edge. Edge + Siege is great. Remanding/countering is great with Siege in play, but I think Spell Pierce should be in there. Siege also makes Cursecatcher playable.
And Kira isn't trash, but you don't need her. His deck would've been better with White in it and a better sideboard, but a Top 8 at SCG is nothing to scoff at. Well done!
I do like how the list maximizes seiges effect and I agree with SaintA, Spell pierce in that deck list wouldve shined with his composition.
Kira is kira. I wouldn't take a card out based on the premise that one card trumps it. I think having a card in the deck that demands abrupt decay as an awnser is fine especially when it keeps them off lords.
On to brewing. Splash green for collected company? I know I want to give it a go, it even lends itself to the devotion route if you want to jam 4 Thassa.
Went 3-0-1 at a modern win-a-box at my LGS yesterday. Drew the last round with a friend so we could get more packs between the two of us.
I'll write a more in depth post about it when I get home, since I'm on my phone right now, but I will say that Thassa put in a ton of work, especially against Junk.
Well, if I had to vote for a third color, I would vote esper.
You get discard spells, you get liliana of the veil, you get bob, you get better removal/safer dismembers, etc.
Nonetheless, I think three color fish would be quite the stretch, considering we run enough double blue already.

Yes, be very worried. Red decks will be sideboarding this against Splinter Twin, so it will be played against Merfolk.

Erm... Double check your list there, mate. Something tells me that five Master of Waves and six Vapor Snags is a little fishy.
