I know it doesn't happen often but I just HATE how I might kill my own Architects with an Ingot Chewer. The same sort of nombo also prevented me from playing Macabre and Deadshot together for a spell.
...You could just swap out the architects for the chewers, that 100% guarantees you don't nombo yourself.
Unless you face off against something like affinity where having an artifact target post LE is very likely such as darksteel citadel or a non-creature artifact like opal/drum/plating.
Especially when playing against decks like Merfolk when they run annoying creatures and Relic together, so when Shriekmaw and Chewer comeback from Living End Shriekmaw might just kill it, while there are other black creatures like Wraith, Horror which are invaild targets.
On Architect of Wills:
I use them before, they are ok, but right now I found them irrevelant, so I just run the Minotaurs instead. (Easier to cycle and cast)
Your opponent topdeck is not that important , your board presence is too big anyways.
The only thing might be a issue is Board Wipe into a Graveyard hate, or Ensnaring Bridge while your don't have a Beast Within to deal with it, but chances are low.
For leylines and numbers:
I think its important to take into account which leyline it is, in which matchup.
With for example a t1 leyline of the void vs dredge, you are kind of stopping their entire gameplan until they can deal with it. Multiple leylines are castable, and can serve as insurance that they dont get to deploy their game plan. So in this situation, siding in 4 leylines and even mulliganing aggressively towards them seems worth it. One leyline is worth a ton of virtual card advantage.
Siding in leylines of sanctity vs grixis shadow though, is different. There, a leyline mostly stops discard spells, but it hardly stops them from winning.
There, if you have a leyline, and they have a discard spell in hand they cannot cast, your SB card is trading 1 for 1 and you are about even.
If you draw 2 leylines, or mulligan to a leyline, now your opponent needs 2 dead discard spells in hand for you to be even, otherwise leylines are hurting you more than your opponent.
If you dont have a leyline in your opening hand, but draw into one, now it is actually having the opposite effect it is supposed to have. Your opponent still gets to use discard, and you have a harder time drawing out of it, because you risk drawing dead leylines.
Cosmo's numbers are pretty close, gives a good picture. If you account for street wraiths, and calculate the draws out of 49 cards instead of 53, leyline gets slightly worse numbers, and/or if you look at a game that goes slightly longer, with a bigger ratio of cards drawn to cards in opening hand, leylines again get a bit worse.
So I am not a big fan at all of leylines vs death's shadow.
Leyline always risks being a dead card in hand. When the upside is that you get to nullify tons of your opponent's cards, like a void leyline vs dredge, of sanctity vs burn, then the tradeoff seems worth it. Sometimes you stop 10 of their cards, sometimes you have a dead card. On average, you end up ahead. You can mull to the leyline, because having 1 less card is worth stopping the opponent's entire strategy.
When it is just to deal with discard spells of which your opponent has like 7 total, leyline does not seem worth it. Sometimes it "trades", sometimes you get 1 virtual card advantage, and sometimes it is a dead card. Overall you end up about even.
Using 4 sideboard slots to end up at about the same place as if you sideboarded nothing is not a great place to be.
Also, be wary of relying too much on leyline of sanctity vs burn. It is obviously great against them, but not as game-winning as a lot of people seem to think. Small creatures and atarka's command is still a thing, and destructive revelry is still a thing. Leylines are good against burn, but they can win through it, just like how a relic might be good against us, but we can win through it. It has to be part of a plan to slow them down and win, it cant be the entire plan.
Too many people dont test vs burn, just stuff 4 leylines in the board, assume it will be enough to be favored, and then complain about getting unlucky.
Well, I made it with Leyline of Sanctity in mind, for Living End (it says uncastable Leylines in the first part). What I meant is one could use the same logic for Leyline of the Void in Infect, or something like that. I won't bring it against DS decks, or anything packing discard. This deck is very resilent against discard thanks to cycling. I would consider it vs Burn, Ad Nauseam, Storm, Lantern and Titanshift. As far I can see, you think the same way I do, but it may be useful for those 'LE newbies' looking at this. Agree on not overboarding stuff, it makes the deck less consistent. And of course, 4 Leyline of Sanctity is not going to win you the game against Burn, they just make it less miserable

About Street Wraith making the 53 card deck a 49 one, it's not completely accurate (it's only true if you happen to draw all your Wraiths in those 10/11 cards). One would have to affect the nunmbers with the chance of drawing one or more in the opening, and then 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4 wraiths in those 5 draws after the opening 7 for each situation (3 or 4 Leylines in the SB, and the 4 cases after starting the game). It gets really complicated, and I don't have that much time I do agree with you, they make Leylines a little bit worse (around 2%, perhaps?), and the situation of 4 Leylines is going to be slightly worse than the other one
Blood moons:
I like having additional ways to pressure my opponent's manabase on top of the just fulminators.
I dont really like how much worse it gets in most matchups if you cant open with it, and I also dislike the fact that when my opponents find a basic, neither blood moon nor fulminators can mess with that.
For now I have gone - 2 blood moons, and -2 beast within to add in 4 avalanche riders, and it seems quite nice. I think I will try a split between avalanche riders and stone rains, but the ability to take out basic lands is really good in a lot of matches, especially when you can take out multiple lands in a game.
In long drawn out games vs something like control, the riders also gave a sort of inevitability, vs deaths shadow it means eventually being able to kill all their blue producing lands, even through stubborn denial, and vs control, riders eventually are a 2 for 1, instead of dead cards like extra copies of blood moons would be.
And they come back with LE, so every once in a while, that is also relevant, you just LE and put them on no lands.
8 LD spells in our deck is a lot (with all the cyclers), multiple land destruction spells can cripple people. Unlike with blood moon, where ripping a moon off to top after playing an early fulminator is just meh, ripping an avalanche rider after an early fulminator just seals the deal.
Yeah, BM is a really bad topdeck... It's really good if you can drop it turn 2/3, but decays after that. The only thing I don't like about Avalanche Riders it's the manacost. In my Slaughter Games vs Lost Legacy numbers, I found out that 4 mana is much more than 3 mana in this deck. Now we just need a cycling Avalanche Riders in a future set
That's one thing I have found lately now since the release of Amonkhet is with so many options to choose from in terms of which cyclers to use it's hard for me to pick. That is one thing that I did like about AoW is that Horror of the Broken Lands now makes AoW a lot better, almost curing its only draw back, and that is if you top deck it late game its left stranded in your hand if you don't have to hard cast it. But thanks to Horror we just cycle it for the +2 pump. Helps shore up its drawback. So many little nuances to the deck now due to the cycler options. Its hard for me to pick which configuration of the deck that I like better.
The truth is that Horror makes all the cyclers better, not only AoW (post LE, of course). AoW doesn't help as much when you are not winning (with RiP in play, for example). Minotaur and Carabid at least can be casted. Nevertheless, I will happilly replace any of them when better cyclers get printed.

If the Shriekmaw is in your GY, most of the time it has killed something with evoke. Why can't you kill the same dude when you return everything with LE? What am I missing?
Eternal Scourge There might be some matchups in which this could be useful to side in when they bring in rest in peace or leyline?
I think that between the castable dudes, Beast Within and Blood Moon if you run it, this deck doesn't have a bad time fighting through hate. Which decks bring those hate cards vs LE? Maybe there's something better to do for 3 mana... I like Eternal Scourge, I use it in Legacy Eldrazi against grindy decks with Wasteland, but a 3/3 is big there...
I believe WoTC's new policy is to make sure that every color can enjoy the exciting gameplay mechanic of making undercosted dudes and then turning them sideways. Clearly the future of magic.

I will have to test the kiki jiki plan at some point. Having a strong backup plan that can just win is great, especially when your opponent is forced to use their disruption on the LE part of the deck. Things like kiki-exarch (or even blood moon, or fulminator) get much better if the opponent can't thoughtseize them because they already have to take violent outburst.
Seems like there could also be a little value in copying things like fulminator with kiki jiki, or if you get both pieces in the gy, being able to win immediately after a LE.
For how effective GY hate is: it depends on the matchup, and who has inevitability.
For aggro decks, it is not that effective at all. They are trying to win fast, because at some point their cards are too weak to face off with our hardcast 5 mana threats. So usually they are better off just trying to go all in and to win fast, and hope we dont have it. If they slow themselves down with GY hate, then we can still wrath them, and the slower they are, the worse their odds of winning are.
Vs something that can win a longer game against us, like perhaps ad nauseum, a piece of GY hate is quite effective. In that situation, it buys them tons of time, they dont really care about LE acting as just a wrath effect, and they can win through us hardcasting a bunch of 5 drops.
Thats also why support spells like fulminators or other land denial works quite well.
Vs creature decks, either they play creatures and you LE, or they play graveyard hate, in which case they are not playing a lot of early creatures, and thats fine too.
So most of the support spells need to be able to deal with non creature decks.
A lot of valuable info here, the inevitability piece is what most aggro/Midrange players miss.
Tuesday I played in a 42-man event at my LGS, 2-1-1 with the draw in the last round. Quick write up, have some questions on the matches..
R1 Eldrazi Tron 1-2
G1 I knew he was on E-Tron when his first land was Eldrazi temple, I cycled Ceradon EOT, untap land pass. Opp goes temple -> TKS and I responded with 3x street wraith-> SSG -> Outburst with TKS trigger on stack. Took home g1 pretty quick.
G2, I brought in 2 blood moon, 2 Ingot Chewer expecting CotV and Relics. His T1 was temple, chalice =0, I led with a fetch and pass. Temple TKS to snag my blood moon. I cycled Ceradon eot and untapped into land, chewer, pass. He plays a 2nd CotV and attacks, two draw phases later I'm dead on board.
G3 I sided out 1 chewer for 1 Beast Within, he led with relic, cracked it T2, t3 reality smasher. Never found a cascade spell.
R2 Abzan Midrange 2-0
G1 I knew he was on Midrange and he led with tseize grabbing my outburst on the draw, to match my fastland -> pass. EOT I cycled a horror and untapped to draw a street wraith, played a second land and passed. He untapped and played a Scooze, EOT I cycled street wraith carabid and Ceradon, untapped into demonic dread and rode them to a quick win.
G2 he mulled to 6, started with 2 Leyline of the Void in play so I pegged myself on the big dumb creatures plan and rode those all the way to victory. Midrange just doesn't have a way to beat a 5cmc dude every turn.
R3 Monogreen Stompy 2-0
G1 she didn't know what I was doing, took her three minutes to finally understand what living end actually did. She had suited up an Experiment One to a 7/7 by t3 and ran it and two other dudes straight into a T2 violent outburst enabled by SSG. All I brought back was horror, but I attacked for 12 and the following turn she scooped.
G2 she started out strong with T1 experiment one, T2 strangleroot geist and attacked with 2x Mutagenic Growth. I cycled my AoW T1, T2 I cycled 2x Carabid, she put me to 6 with another Growth on t3, I untapped into Demonic Dread and took the game home from there.
R4 Bant Eldrazi 1-1
Very long match. G1 I took home in 4-5 mins, I hit the nuts 3x street wraith on T1 with a ceradon and cascaded on T2.
G2 he had T2 TKS to grab blood moon (beginning to hate TKS lol), snagged my cascade spell t3, reality smasher t4. Didn't topdeck the cascade spell I needed in my next 2 draws.
G3 was a long drawn out slug fest. Every time he put down a big guy, I answered with either my own or a Shriekmaw. His relics and RIP kept me from exploding into the game so it was a very slow game. Time/turns was about to hit so I took an aggressive line and suspended LE with nothing in yard and a Beast within in hand, his next turn EOT I got rid of RIP and then started turn 0 for time. I had a grip of 3 cyclers and a horror in play, his TKS and Matter Reshaper were threatening my 4 life to his 13. Passed, LE has 1 counter left, he rips a third relic and wipes the yard, passes turn. I attack with Horror and he blocks with Reshaper, free land, I cast another Horror and pass the turn. He untapped and tried to slam a PtE then realized I had already fulminator maged his white source, attacked into my dude and I untapped into a draw when I couldn't win. Just needed to chain cyclers into each other on combat Lol
Also, what Raver said - there will be targets. Literally the only time I've ever cast Demonic Dread on a target that I put on the board myself is against Bogles, and that's not even really a thing anymore.

Thought Knot Seer is actually a fair option to consider. I remember seeing a Japanese top 8 list a few months back that ran an Olivia V. in the main board making the use of TKS sound reasonable.

17 cyclers is a bit too low I think, there will be times you wont draw enough cyclers to cast LE.
19-20 should be the ideal cyclers count to meet the standard, you want to always have cyclers in your opening hand.
2 LE is like ... well what happen when you draw both of them in your opening hand? Or when you draw a Living End in your opening hand, and you eventually draw another one off a cycler, maybe the red Expertise will help if you plan to run only 2 LE in the main.

Yeah don't SB in Chewer vs DS, not worth it.
Most of the DS players have around 3 Leyline of the Void, you keep your Beast Within in that matchup, just incase they have Leyline.
Hey guys! I'm starting modern and am currently building a Living End.
The LGS i'm in authorizes proxies, so I can try any sideboard, which is pretty cool.
From the decks I saw, I may face :
Boros Burn or UR Storm,
Kiki-Chord,
Classic Tron or Affinity,
Grixis death Shadow,
Merfolk,
Lantern Control,
I don't know for the others. Maybe UR Delver, not that sure about that one.
I'm thinking about :
4 Ingot Chewer (affinity/lantern/tron)
4 Leyline of Sanctity ( Burn/Storm/Lantern)
and then I'm not sure :
4 Leyline of the void(Storm/Affinity/Death Shadow)?
Ricochet Trap against Merfolk, storm and grixis?
Jund Charm instead of leyline of the void?
Shriekmaw for early Burn/Merfolk?
and that's it. Mind that I have access to any card, so any suggestion is okay. I am not that used to playing modern even if I know most of the decks, so I prefer asking you for help regarding the sideboard.

3-4 ingot chewers are a must in every LE sideboard imo. leyline is a solid choice over brindle boar as it not only shores up the burn match but it also helps against lantern, storm, and any Bx deck with thoughtseize looking to tear apart your hand.
Leyline of the void is good against storm, jund, grixis, that new g/w ramunap deck, dredge and the mirror obviously.
Ive had limited success with ricochet trap and I feel like Blood Moon can take its place as its applicable to more decks and its about as effective against control. Cant tell you how many times I've cascaded into living end just to have my board get Supreme Verdict'ed with a ricochet trap in hand...#feelsbad
I'd play fearie macabre instead of jund charm if you were going to play jund charm. If you want the "wrath" effect it provides then I'd say play anger of the gods.
Shriekmaw is really good right now (IMO) with all the eldrazi tron decks. I'm playing a bunch in the sideboard right now but then again my local meta is very creature/aggro heavy. (a mono white turbo fog deck went 4-0 the other night to give you an idea lol).

Without knowing the exact numbers (i.e. how many shadow player vs lantern) the numbers might be a bit rough but I think my current SB configuration is very applicable to your meta.
Both variants of eldrazi (tron, Bant) fold to shriekmaw, and Ingot chewer is a must against the tron variant. It's more of a spec for bant though, one i'd take if I lost G1 but that's a matchup that is heavily favored towards us to begin with.

The last game was super close and I chose the correct line which probably had 2 percent to lose vs a line that had 15%. The 15% line would have won me the game based on what he drew, but I still feel good choosing the correct line, which I lost to.
AMA, and give me tips for Grixis Shadow, I can beat bad shadow players, not good ones.

EOT I cycled a horror and untapped to draw a street wraith, played a second land and passed. He untapped and played a Scooze, EOT I cycled street wraith carabid and Ceradon, untapped into demonic dread and rode them to a quick win.
G2 he mulled to 6, started with 2 Leyline of the Void in play so I pegged myself on the big dumb creatures plan and rode those all the way to victory. Midrange just doesn't have a way to beat a 5cmc dude every turn.
R3 Monogreen Stompy 2-0
G1 she didn't know what I was doing, took her three minutes to finally understand what living end actually did. She had suited up an Experiment One to a 7/7 by t3 and ran it and two other dudes straight into a T2 violent outburst enabled by SSG. All I brought back was horror, but I attacked for 12 and the following turn she scooped.
G2 she started out strong with T1 experiment one, T2 strangleroot geist and attacked with 2x Mutagenic Growth. I cycled my AoW T1, T2 I cycled 2x Carabid, she put me to 6 with another Growth on t3, I untapped into Demonic Dread and took the game home from there.
R4 Bant Eldrazi 1-1
Very long match. G1 I took home in 4-5 mins, I hit the nuts 3x street wraith on T1 with a ceradon and cascaded on T2.
G2 he had T2 TKS to grab blood moon (beginning to hate TKS lol), snagged my cascade spell t3, reality smasher t4. Didn't topdeck the cascade spell I needed in my next 2 draws.
G3 was a long drawn out slug fest. Every time he put down a big guy, I answered with either my own or a Shriekmaw. His relics and RIP kept me from exploding into the game so it was a very slow game. Time/turns was about to hit so I took an aggressive line and suspended LE with nothing in yard and a Beast within in hand, his next turn EOT I got rid of RIP and then started turn 0 for time. I had a grip of 3 cyclers and a horror in play, his TKS and Matter Reshaper were threatening my 4 life to his 13. Passed, LE has 1 counter left, he rips a third relic and wipes the yard, passes turn. I attack with Horror and he blocks with Reshaper, free land, I cast another Horror and pass the turn. He untapped and tried to slam a PtE then realized I had already fulminator maged his white source, attacked into my dude and I untapped into a draw when I couldn't win. Just needed to chain cyclers into each other on combat Lol

19-20 should be the ideal cyclers count to meet the standard, you want to always have cyclers in your opening hand.
2 LE is like ... well what happen when you draw both of them in your opening hand? Or when you draw a Living End in your opening hand, and you eventually draw another one off a cycler, maybe the red Expertise will help if you plan to run only 2 LE in the main.

Most of the DS players have around 3 Leyline of the Void, you keep your Beast Within in that matchup, just incase they have Leyline.

The LGS i'm in authorizes proxies, so I can try any sideboard, which is pretty cool.

Jund Charm instead of leyline of the void?
Shriekmaw for early Burn/Merfolk?
and that's it. Mind that I have access to any card, so any suggestion is okay. I am not that used to playing modern even if I know most of the decks, so I prefer asking you for help regarding the sideboard.

3-4 ingot chewers are a must in every LE sideboard imo. leyline is a solid choice over brindle boar as it not only shores up the burn match but it also helps against lantern, storm, and any Bx deck with thoughtseize looking to tear apart your hand.
Leyline of the void is good against storm, jund, grixis, that new g/w ramunap deck, dredge and the mirror obviously.
Ive had limited success with ricochet trap and I feel like Blood Moon can take its place as its applicable to more decks and its about as effective against control. Cant tell you how many times I've cascaded into living end just to have my board get Supreme Verdict'ed with a ricochet trap in hand...#feelsbad
I'd play fearie macabre instead of jund charm if you were going to play jund charm. If you want the "wrath" effect it provides then I'd say play anger of the gods.
Shriekmaw is really good right now (IMO) with all the eldrazi tron decks. I'm playing a bunch in the sideboard right now but then again my local meta is very creature/aggro heavy. (a mono white turbo fog deck went 4-0 the other night to give you an idea lol).

The last game was super close and I chose the correct line which probably had 2 percent to lose vs a line that had 15%. The 15% line would have won me the game based on what he drew, but I still feel good choosing the correct line, which I lost to.
AMA, and give me tips for Grixis Shadow, I can beat bad shadow players, not good ones.
