also, anyone who has played this deck, how does Anathemancer run?
my buddy has a jund deck but not this guy. it would just seem as though he's a geralf's messenger on crack if opponents play no basics or very little. i'm looking forward to a mirror match and casting this guy.
There are so many cards that would be great in budget jund that i havent seen mentioned. Liliana Vess? Garruk Relentless? Vraska? Vexing Devil? Any Swords? Slaughter Pact? Master of the Wild Hunt? Slaughter Games/Thought Hemorrhage/Memoricide? All of them can provide great board presence. I read the thread about Vexing Devil, he just like all these cards can go into sideboard. Im putting Slaughter Games and Garruk into my SB.
I'm trying to mitigate the high cost of Liliana of the Veil. She's quite expensive, just 2 of them is equal to about a quarter of my total deck's price.
Would an additional 2 Liliana Vess be a suitable substitute? I certainly cannot afford shelling another $50 for 2 more LOTV.

It depends on what you'd be using Liliana of the Veil for (metagame analysis). She's very flexible, so replacing her may take up more of your deck slots.
Liliana Vess seems too expensive in CMC and doesn't do much to replace Liliana of the Veil . I don't know what your decklist looks like, though, so take my advice with a grain of salt.

Thanks for the tip, currently I run a budget Jund Midrange. I found that my deck sorely needed a planeswalker. Being that Liliana of the Veil is like a Swiss army knife in her versatility and can be cascaded with BBE, she seemed like a perfect fit. Just her price is somewhat prohibitive. I probably will get one more of her after I fix my landbase.
Here's the first draft of a budget Jund deck I'm gonna try and build to get into modern; I've been kicking around varius Burn, Dredge, and other modern brews and Jund is something I've always enjoyed playing in other formats. I was worried about not having Goyfs, Bobs, or TS, but looking through this thread has shown me some effective replacements and I'm confident I can do fairly well with a budget version.

not a fan of the fulminator mage. I'd go putrid leech if you have access. Same with fetch lands. If anything, a playset of verdant catacombswould be perfect, or any that grabs black like marsh flats
also maybe 1 thundermaw hellkite but definitely leeches and lands

Why Leech over Fulminator? Worst case scenario, Leech is a vanilla 2/2 if I can't afford to pay into it, where as Fulminator will almost always have a utility purpose.

I guess you could always run kitchen finks instead of fum mage. Same cost, gotta kill him twice and gives 4 life

it still depends.. Putrid Leech adds aggressiveness to your deck.. It is still a 4/4 for 2cmc, not 2/2 oftentimes.. You could only board him out when facing RDWs.. Fulminator Mage requires timing and meta dependency.. If there are many Tron or Valakut decks, then it is good to run..
Mainboard Choices Abyssal Persecutor - I've always had a fondness for this card, and I feel like it's an excellent finisher here. We run so much removal that it's clause isn't really important, and a 6/6 flying, trampling beater for 4cmc is pretty good. The little playtesting I did, I felt like there was a lack of staying power, and I think this will help. The downside is that it's the one thing I can't cascade into.
Anathemancer - With almost no one running more than 3 or 4 basics these days, this thing puts some serious hurt on. 4+ to the top & a 2/2 body for 3cmc, plus it can come back later for the killing blow. Also makes a great cascade.
Phyrexian Arena - Bob replacement; I feel like it needs to be at 3-4 copies, but I don't know what to cut.
Liliana of the Veil - Only running two of LotV is actually more of a space issue than a price issue; should I cut something for another 1-2 copies?
As far as Thoughtseize, I'm personally happier with IoK/Duress/AfB with all the creature heavy decks running around lately; that two life can end up biting you. This is also why I'm running no fetches and only 5 shocklands, price aside.
Sideboard Choices Vampire Nighthawk - Powerful card against aggro, and even in the mirror. Swings past everything but spirits, and a single LS won't kill it. The life gain is nice too, mitigates some of our self harm.
Duress - For combo matches, when I need a little more targeted discard to keep them from going off.
Jund Charm - Amazing toolkit. Shuts down dredge, Pyromancer's ascension, and puts the heart on aggro, all at instant speed.
Burning-Tree Shaman - Another anti-combo card, as combo is usually a bad matchup for me (and I assume Jund in general).
Abrupt Decay - In case I need some more targetted removal; hits a lot of relevant creatures and artifacts.
Sowing Salt - Anti Tron slot, since Tron is just such a nasty matchup.
I tried keeping the non cascade-able cards to a minimum, with only 3 MB and 2 SB. Any critique or advice welcome, especially on the sideboard. I'm going blind into a meta so, I'm trying to cover as much ground as possible for now.
how does the abyssal persecuter run? it seems as though it would slow you down. i know its one extra mana cost but why not thundermaw hellkite my buddy runs it and is usually the finisher.

If your meta is combo/control heavy and you want more discard: Blightning, Rakdos Augermage, and Rise // Fall are possibilities.
If you need to make up for her ability to edict: Cruel Edict, Tribute to Hunger, Geth's Verdict. Depending on your list and the metagame, you may also be able to make up for this with sweepers (Jund Charm) or good blockers (Vampire Nighthawk and Kitchen Finks) (this sentence is mostly targeted towards Geist of Saint Traft).
