I have merged togeather several [Budget] Threads. Unless your deck is significantly different from a standard build please post your requests for assistance in this thread. Please state your budget requirements in your first post .
Dark Confidant
While technically impossible to replace, the card draw can be replaced by Night's Wispers. Some people opt to play Tombstalker since he is an efficient beater and normally avoided since he does not go well with Dark Confidant.
This is my version of the modern jund, using allot of new cards, and $ effective cards. Ive tested this deck for months with my play group, and lgs touneys. Ive used allot of the same set up as modern jund, but go for more attacking damage with agrro control spells.
Creatures:
- 2x kitchen finks
- 4x porcelain legionnare - really strong 2 drop banger, needs any 2 mana to cast,
- 4x skinshifter - another really strong 2 drop, 4/4 trample attacking turn 2
- 3x dusk urchins - big body card drawer
- 4x bloodbarid elf
I use 23 lands, a mix of basic lands, instrad lands, and m11 duals, and filters, and 1 raging ravine. If you have the money the land base can be better
Why this deck works, this deck works because everycard except garruk can be cascaded into by blood braid elf, and every card is useful at all times, i tried to use all cards that you get allot for your mana
About the cards i use:
arc trail- very usefull against aggro decks, it kills affinity, at worse you can kill a one drop and deal 2 dmg to the player
ravens crime- a great one mana spell, thats usefull late game, if i get landed i can retrace this 3-4 times in a long game, i love this card
Skinshifter- the next best thing to goyf, one of greens strongest dudes, can attack big on turn 3, and the wall ability is useful
Cards ive tested:
- phyrexian arena, i started with this, its good but it hurts too much late game, i much perfer dusk urchins because of thr big body and you still draw some cards
- vampire nighthawk, this is an amazing creature, if they dont remove a nighthawk you will win the game, 5 swings and your up ten life on your opponet
- putrid leach, its strong and aggresive, but dealt too much dmg to myself, i perfer legionnaire to the leach
Results:
Ive been to allot of local games, ive won $50 the last few nights ive played, and gone nearly undifeted one of those nights. The deck didnt cost much so i most of my money back already and ive only played it a few times,
Suggestions are welcome lmk if you guys have ideas that can improve my deck
Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
As for budged Jund, Boggart Ram-Gang has always been a favorite of mine. It's aggressive, it's cheap, acts as pseudo-removal and cascading into it with Bloodbraid Elf can really screw with the opponent's combat math, because 6 damage on the board with haste out of nowhere can swing games.
Also Kitchen Finks is always nice to have, but I heard they have been getting a little pricy as of late. Also without a good manabase, GG mana can be heard to get.
Even in a budget deck Finks is almost necessary to combat the huge numbers of aggro and tempo decks.
obstinate baloth is also an option if you don't wanna get kitchen finks. They're dirt cheap and surprisingly turn around a lot of games, especially against aggro...that is, assuming you get to cast him. Also, raven's crime and blightning are cards, and your opponent will not be happy if you get to play the baloth for free.

maybe just run 2 Terminates and lose the Porcelain Legionnaires?
^^ interesting comparison re: Hell's Thunder. What I like about Thundermaw Hellkite is his ability to get the whole army past flying tokens and Delvers. Maybe a sideboard card.
I was thinking about trading the treetops for other lands and run 23 lands total, but i could go 25 lands
Im going to modern thurseday at my lgs, ill post resaults
I think you are wasting a slot on raven's Crime if you are not running LftL. I also think that despite Dusk Urchins being kinda cute, I think you would be better off with Strangleroot Geist or Sprouting Thrinax- both of which will make aggro cry. Lastly, I may sound like a broken record here (because I seem to be recommending it for every deck), but you should try Mask of Memories. Slap that on Legionairres or Skin Shifter and you have some dig and some draw.
To make this budget I subbed Strangleroot Geist for Tarmogoyf and it's done really well in play tests.
Skinshifter was a good candidate for the slot but it's gone to removal and ties up a land after it's cast. I'm still not convinced I need 4x Anathemancer. I need to squeeze some Rancors in, and Geralf's Messenger seems too good not to use at least 1 of.
I like vampire nighthawk. It blocks delver, regains you life, and even blocks and kills emrakul, I believe. Strangleroot geist works well in aggressive builds though.
I would drop the number of ravines to 1 or 2 and use Copperline Gorge instead, drop both savage lands for 1 Marsh Flats and 1 Overgrown Tomb and you'll be fine.
Running ETB Tapped would cause lots and lots of trouble,on my build the only ETB Tapped are 3 TT Villages,Raging Ravine is meh for me.
Your SB needs to be improved,Grafdigger's Cage is good

If you are on the play you can blow up one land with the mage to delay them, while the Salt comes one turn later,I always side the mages and the extraction to work side by side

skinshifter is ussualy a better replacment for goyf then putrid leech. Hes got trample and can fly and can do other things, and hes better turn 3 or 4 when goyf is. He mimics goyf closer then any card. I use him and i like him. Playing mid range putrid leeche just kills ur life too much. skinshifter can also be a bigger threat then goyf vs decks that have tons of chunp blockers. Ive won allot of games because of trample
I just use 3 molten rain instead. I like fulminator mage and all, but chances are you'll need to blow up a land immediately and fulminator mage doesn't get in any damage if you have to sac him immediately.
Putrid leech is debatable since the deck is so suicidal, especially seeing that you have 4 bobs. I like vampire nighthawk and/or blightning instead.

Hmm, good call actually; I hadn't thought of running him but it makes sense. The only thing I'd add is that you should probably only play him if you can keep a G open to keep him out of bolt range.
I agree that Leech is just too much to ask of the deck alongside Bob. Usually if I'm playing an opponent running Leech I'm able to hold off until pumping and then bolt/terminate.

Yea hes underrated. You have to know how to play him though, i usually play him around turn 4 or 5 when i know ill have allot of mana. But the trample is amazing, i didnt know how much it would help, esspecially vs combo elvs and stuff were they always have weenies to block with
Most people are either missing Tarmogoyf, Dark Confidant or Thoughtsieze.
You need to think about your metagame, but here are popular replacements:
Tarmogoyf
Dark Confidant
While technically impossible to replace, the card draw can be replaced by Night's Wispers. Some people opt to play Tombstalker since he is an efficient beater and normally avoided since he does not go well with Dark Confidant.
If you have a heavy black deck you can use Sign in Blood or Phyrexian Arena.

vampire nighthawk is the best sub for finks. skinshifter is the sub for goyf
He could work and end the game quick. Late game power is underrated.
Update on my deck, im adding one kitchen finks to go 3. Im also adding 2-3 treetop vills, any suggestions on what i should i take out for them?
Wouldn't you just play hell's thunder instead? It's basically the same card except you can hit it off of bloodbraid.
