round 2 - infect, Win 2-1. game 3 infect player probes me, sees two vines, and deglamer. he never activates his inkmoth cause i have deglamer. i draw another vines. infect player went krosa on his blighted agent, i vines, he vines, i vines, he vines, i vines. he scoops.
round 3 - infect, Lose 2-1. i ran outta vines to protect from lethal. basically lost a topdeck war.
round 4 - merfolk, Win 2-0. just ran him over. he chalice for 1 in game 2 and tried to play aether vial after.
strangleroot geist is a beast. i'm thinking off going all haste and switching baloths with BRG. i need a faster clock against infect which is prevalent.

Congrats on the good finish.
Dismember can also be useful against infect. As losing 4 life isn't really a big factor when going against that deck.
Boggart Ram Gang is a good card, used it in a previous list. One thing that I like about BRG is that since it deals damage in -1/-1 counters, it will kill a Kitchen Finks right away - no persist.
You even side in Melira? Wow, must be really a lot of Infect over there.
Hello there! I've been running a list for more than 2 months on magic online and lately I wanted to check my win rate on 2 man queues. This is my parents's computer and I'm using this one for the last 2 weeks, so results are from this computer only. I realized that I was 12-2, and below are the matchups.
On play
UW Emeria Control 2-1
Nahiri Jeskai 2-1
Esper Control 2-1
Isochron Scepter Fog Deck 2-0 with Pyhrexian Unlife, Angel's Grace.
Eldrazi&Taxes 2-1
Merfolk 2-1
Shriekhorn Dredge 2-0
Burn 2-0
On draw
Big Zoo 2-1
Nahiri Jeskai 2-0
Eldrazi Tron 2-1
Suicide Zoo 2-1
I mostly play only on magic online and in tournament practice rooms, 2 man queues, and friendly leagues. (Had several 3-2s and a recently 4-1 in the league.) For this meta, I can say that I'm quite happy with the 3-of Dismembers in the main. There are almost always good targets for them.
Just wanted to share the results, I'd love to hear you stompers' results/ideas.
Edit: 13-2 now with a win on draw against RG Breach 2-1
I am the guy who got second place in that IQ. I've been lurking in this thread for about a year now and slowly adjusting my build over that time. Wanted to get into Modern and wanted a deck that wouldn't break the bank.
The build I ran was based more around consistency than anything else. Stompy can be a very volatile deck and you need consistency more than anything else. I had been running one Surrak, the Hunt Caller for instance right beforehand. It's cute, but not worth it. I prefer the 3rd Aspect of Hydra. And Kessig Prowler is a godsend, regardless of what you think of the effectiveness, another 2 power 1-drop is necessary. There was no point in the tournament where having the Kalonian Tusker over it would have been better. I feel Dismember needs to be at 3. It's not about killing a lot of creatures as it is making sure you have one in your hand when you need to kill a creature.
As for the lands, I tried with 21 for a while and kept getting flooded. I got a bit flooded a few times during this tournament as well. On the whole, with the additional 1-drop creature and upping the 1 mana spells, the deck can run fewer lands. And during the tournament, quite a few times, I won off of one land hands. The whole deck tops out at 3 and only 6 cards in the whole 75 at that. You say it that's too little land for 6 3-drops. I say any more it too much for only 6 3-drops. With Surrak still in there or if your running Thrun, I might agree with 21. But I wanted the numbers I had and that meant shaving off a land.
As for the sideboard choices. I only have one Pithing Needle. The Phyrexian Revoker is on hand in case I decide to try Toolbox Stompy running Eldritch Evolution with it as one of the targets. Don't read too much into it. They're there for Ad Nauseam, which shows up occasionally and kills this deck. I took out Feed the Clans thinking Burn wouldn't be played much anymore. Ended up facing 3. Display of Dominance is mainly for Jund and the like. It stops Terminate, Abrupt Decay, Maelstrom Pulse etc. But more importantly it kills Liliana of the Veil which is a beast in the matchup. Nearly nothing you can do about it if it hits early or an otherwise clear board.
Hunt the Hunter I'm thinking of taking out. It's cute against Tarmogoyf, Infect and was mainly put in there for Elves, which seems to be an unwinnable match up regardless. You can see I ending up losing to it in the finals. Also during the Swiss. May take them out and return Gut Shot which is still good against Infect, Affinity and Elves if less beastly if you get to attack as well. Definitely going to return some life gain for burn. I noticed Spike Feeder is legal in modern. You only need to gain a couple of life to outstrip burn and it helps with the +1/+1 counter subtheme going on. I know people like Kitchen Finks more, but the additional advantage of being a combat trick, depending on how the game is going, is worth looking into.
If you have any more questions about the build or want a tournament report, just ask. I'll be lurking.
I'd like to thank you for dropping by as well and congratulations for the result. A tournament result would be great indeed, also I'd like to hear how did you like the Dungrove Elder with that many lands.

Congrats. However statistics say you are the fortunate few that draws the right amount of lands. Just because it works for you doesn't mean it should work for everyone. If you shuffle properly and maximize randomness then you mostly shouldn't get the right amount of lands with so few. It's also not even 20 lands, you have 2 treetops. I'm not going to tell you to stop but I do not advise it for other people. It's like when the guy top 4ed with a 64 card deck at a GP with like 2k people. It can work but statistics and play from most people says otherwise.

Thanks for the input on the thread, and congrats on your success. Just one particular question.. how big did the your Dungroves usually get?
Hi all,
I'd like to get some feedback on my Eldritch Evolution list. Essentially it's built around Undying/Persist creatures with Evolution for value and a little bit of toolbox. It loses a hair of speed, but has a lot of resiliency to boardwipes and such, and good late-game power. Not sure if some of my 1-ofs in the main are just a little cute/unnecessary though.
If you can cast a spell, you're doing well, If you can't, that's okay, too. It usually takes a few turns before you have enough mana to do anything. Meanwhile, you should figure out whether you need to discard (p.11). Then announce the end of your turn, and let your opponent have a go.
What are you looking for with Eldritch Evolution? It doesn't seem like you have any particular targets that help you win. I think evolution is just better in a creature tool box deck rather than an aggro deck like stompy.
A decent aggro play with Eldritch Evolution is to sac an undying creature and search up an Avatar of the Resolute, getting a counter on your creature and an extra counter on the Avatar in the process.

The StarCityGames IQ was a 6 round tournament with 33 people. One person over the cutoff.
Round 1 - I had to look up what my opponent was playing the next day by find an archetype using those cards. I didn't recognize it. I think it was Kiki-Chord. Game one he plays a bird and soon follows it up with a Voice of Resurgence. That stalled the board for a little bit, but turn 1 Experiment One and turn two Strangleroot Geist got in some beats. Path to Exile on my undying creature was annoying, but I had so many lands out that bigger creatures and a Dismember one the day. Brought in Hunt the Hunter. Game two he gets stuck on two lands and I Dismember his Noble Hierarch. He tries to stall with a Path, but I counter with Vines (always keep one green open with a Vines) and it was soon over.
2-0
Round 2 - When I got there I found two friends had also decided to play, so of course I got paired with one of them for round 2. He was playing Naya Burn. Fetchlands and shocklands do half the job for me in this match. Game one, Experiment One followed by I think Dryad Militant with Vines of Vastwood back up. I have to be careful with leaving a creature back to block Monastery Swiftspear, but he doesn't have enough and an Aspect of Hydra closes the game. Game two, is when I notice I screwed myself with my last minute sideboard changes. I need to take out the 3 Dismembers, but no longer have 3 cards to bring in. 3rd Scavenging Ooze comes in and I bring in Phyrexian Revoker because at least its a creature and not an entirely dead card. Plus I could get lucky with Grim Lavamancer or a fetchland. Game two proceeds a lot like the first. Never drew any life gain either game.
4-0
Round 3 - I get paired up with my other friend who came to play, and eventual winner of the tournament, playing Elves. This is by far Stompy's worst match up bar none. I'll be honest, I don't remember the specifics of these two games, because I've played this match up a number of times and it's always the same. I start off quick with some beats, then turn two or three he empties his hand of creatures. Followed by Elivsh Archdruid, at which point I'm mostly playing defense until Ezuri, Renegade Leader shows up or I get swarmed. Game two he brings in Elvish Champion that he can Chord of Calling for. The best I've ever done in this match up is one where I ended up with 11 forests and both 14 creature boards, both in top deck mode. He draws a Chord before I draw an Aspect, 2nd Avatar of the Resolute or Dungrove Elder. Hunt the Hunter can help a little, but it just turns a steep cliff into an uphill slog.
4-2
Round 4 - Infect. This is a matchup you do not recklessly attack all the time. Always leave one or two blockers back and always block Glistener Elf. Game one, he drops a Glistener Elf and a Noble Hierarch and I have Dryad Militant and Strangleroot Geist. We beat back and forth a bit, he gets past me and pumps me up to nine poison. Then I win with the crack back. Game two, I bring in 2 Hunt the Hunters. Definitely going those to switch to Gut Shots. the important play was the last two turns of the game. He has 3 lands, one open, and Glistener Elf, I have 1 open land, two Strangleroot Geists and 5 poison. I attack with one Geist leaving one back to block. End of turn I Dismember the Elf. He Vines. Then he goes, Dismember, Dismember, Might of Old Krosa. Best play, wait to Dismember on his turn. But I rushed it and lost. Game three, I trounce him. Gets a Hierarch down and nothing else.
6-3
Round 5 - It's another Burn, this time 4-color burn. Game one I'm confused for about 2 turns because his first play is Bump in the Night followed by bolting an evolved Experiment One. But then a Swiftspear comes down and a Lava Spike and I get what he's doing. He made the top 8 so you can see his list alongside mine. He eventually has to block to save some life points and he's just on the back foot after that. Game two, you will lose more on your own mistakes than an opponents plays. He is at 18 life, I'm at 7. Board is 2 Swiftspears on his side; 2 Leatherback Baloths (one with Rancor), a 6/6 Scavenging Ooze, a countered up Strangleroot, a Treetop Village and an Experiment One with Aspect of Hydra in hand on mine. I focused so much on the block the Swiftpears, which is right in the early game, that I ignored the fact that an alpha strike with Aspect on the Baloth was a win no matter what. Instead I just attack with Baloth bringing him to 12, Aspect being 1 short. He goes Skullcrack, Boros Charm. Game 3, he has the god hand. Rift Bolt, Rift Bolt, Lightning Bolt, Lava Spike, Lava Spike with an Atarka's Command and Skullcrack to finish it off. Best I could muster was a Phyrexian Revoker on turn two followed by a vanilla Avatar.
7-5
The standings are such that I get paired up with a 3-1-1. We have to play and winner gets into the top 8.
Round 6 - I'll be honest. I do not remember this match. Other than the ID's above us, we were the first match done they were so fast. I saw 3 cards in both games. Path, Bob and Bolt.
9-5
I'm 8th place in the top 8, so I go up against the first seed.
Quarterfinals - W/B Blink
Game one, I keep a hand with no turn one play. I go Strangelroot, Strangleroot. He has a turn 3 Lingering Souls. They tokens trade, I get my creatures back. He flashes back and trades with one. Wall of Omens in a nuisance until I drop a Baloth. He has to look at it and doesn't look happy. Thought-Knot Seer takes a Vines, but a Dismember takes care of it next turn and I wind pretty quickly after that.
Game two, He plays turn 2 Eldrazi Displacer and turn 3 Reality Smasher. I take the damage as I built my board up. He plays a second Realty Smasher the next turn and I double block with a evolved Experiment One and a countered up Geist. Next turn I block with an Avatar and a pump spell takes down the second Smasher leaving me with a 2 counter Avatar. I play Dryad Militant. He plays Lingering Souls to try and stall. But an aspect saves a creature and next turn I attack and only after he blocks do I realize the Dismember does make the Avatar deal lethal. Hadn't done the math on trample damage yet.
11-5
Semifinals - Another burn deck. Really annoyed at me changing the sideboard now.
Game one, he drops a Lavamancer on me. I go Experiment One then Rancor it. I drop a turn 3 Scavenging Ooze with Vines back up and that's pretty much all she wrote.
Game two, he had me scared with two cards in hand. I go to 5, but he flips his top card the turn before kill him. It's a land and then he shows me the other two lands in hand.
13-5
Finals - Elves.
The most notable thing in these games was I finally managed to flip a Kessig Prowler in game one. Of course he had two Elvish Archdruids in play by then so it didn't matter. I did manage to get him to 1 life before he stalled the board for 2 turns and then overruned me. I saw no removal game 2 and turn 2 Spellskite killed the 3 Rancors in my hand. Missed a land drop and never really recovered after that.
13-7
I've finally settled on a maindeck I like. The sideboard is going to need some work. I sided in basically only 5 cards the whole tournament. Revoker goes out, because it's only useful if you have Eldritch Evolution to get it in those matchups where it is absolutely necessary. The Hunt the Hunters go out, because as good as they in green heavy decks, there are alternatives. 2 Gut Shots and a life gain card. Most likely Feed the Clan, but I'm going to try out Spike Feeders, see if the versatility is worth it. I also wonder if I'm too narrow in my thinking. The match up used to be okay when I was running 2 Ratchet Bombs maindeck (also good against Infect, Delver, Merfolk, Jund). But I'm also wondering about Fog. There are a few decks that win basically off of a single creature alpha strike (Infect, Death's Shadow, Elves) and I'm wondering if it could be an option as well.
I have some other anecdotes, but I don't remember which games they happened in. My fault for not writing it the day of. Dungrove Elder came down and my opponent tries to Path it. It ends the game as a 5/5. Only other time I played it was as a 3/3 and it grew to a 6/6 as it got chumped a few turns.
Kessig Prower, I'm not entirely sure. It showed up in like 3 games all tournament and in one of those it was the 4 creature to hit the board and got the Rancor that was on a Geist. It died before it got to attack.
I kept quite a few one landers, almost always happened when I was on the draw. Got the second land all times save 2. The above mentioned Elves match and one where Experiment Ones and Dryad Militants acted as creature removal with the Rancor on them, plus a +2/+2 Aspect.
