You seem to be boarding out domri quite a bit which I think is fine since he plays a more of a flex spot in the deck.
I don't really understand dropping a pod in the uwr matchup, can you explain?
Also I didn't really notice you siding out phantasmal image very often which is a slot i often look to cut when i am unlikely to have an opportunity to chain all the way to combo. This is especially bad vs decks with electroyze. If you aren't playing image, you probably should be since it allows a fairly easy to assemble turn 4 kill when necessary vs other combos or tron.
Yeah I board out domri a lot. As I posted before I'm considering dropping him all together for a fourth finks and third voice.
On the shaving of pod against uwr it really drowns on if you're on the play or draw. On the draw I side one out because that makes it way easier for them to counter it. Of I'm on the play I'll leave it in. I also like to shave it because combo is option two against them and doubles is really bad.
I do play image and I love him. Just copying anything on my side or theirs makes me leave him in even if I'm not going to chain pod with him. I could see cutting him against elrctryze decks though.
how many of us are going to GP Richmond and playing KikiPod? i am--anyone else?
here's a few changes i made today:
mainboard:
-1 Fetch--now 4 Mesa 3 Misty. added a Copperline Gorge. i haven't noticed a difference in goldfishing and i think it helps--even marginally--with life loss;
-1 Linvala--moved her to the sideboard;
+1 Knight of the Reliquary--small change to reduce curve. i think she's really good in a non-DRS format, can fetch gavony's if on midrange, and survives bolts. still wondering if this should be a 4th Finks instead.
sideboard:
-1 Obstinate Baloth--i don't think it's too relevant right now without a proliferation of Jund;
+1 Relic of Progenitus--i think i want as much graveyard hate as i can get. this makes 2 Relics in board and 1 Scooze main.
waffling on avalanche riders vs. sowing salt. riders if retrievable via pod, but it's 2-1 yourself if you're not getting it from Finks. it also hits only one land, whereas salt removes all copies.
still undecided on moving from 2 Domri to 1, and if so what to add.
I'm considering dropping Linvala (I mean, to the side, i'm not crazy enough to not have her in the 75), but I can't help but think that this will end in disaster. Her ability is less useful in the current meta (mostly because DRS is no more), but her 4 toughness is a lot more meaningful now than it was months ago.
Obstinate Baloth blocks Nacatl, has a decent shot at blocking Goyf, gains us life which is far from useless, and laughs in the face of Anger of the Gods. I prefer it to Relic, but OTOH I play 2 Scooze.
Don't drop Linvala. Melira Pod and Splinter Twin are two of the best decks in the format right now.
Went 2-1 in an 8-man last night, beating Reanimator and Affinity and losing to 3-color burn. Few observations:
Not quite sure what was happening with the reanimator pilot, he kept Faithless Looting and dumping a Griselbrand and Emrakul, the Aeons Torn and then letting the shuffle trigger happen. Even with a hand of 4 emrakuls, you shouldn't have to pitch one. Maybe he was new? Either way, having 1 Scavenging Ooze main and one sided in made me very comfortable against that matchup, especially with 2 Negates coming in as well. G1 is pretty much an auto-loss to a decent draw by them, so thankfully I didn't run into that. 2-0.
Kataki, War's Wage is insane versus affinity (duh), G2 he auto-scooped T3 when I podded a dork into it and G3 I had it in my opener, after a few turns of trying to play around it I got him with an Izzet Staticaster on board and he scooped when I dropped a Phantasmal Image copying Staticaster to his board of Etched Champion and only 1 other artifact. Pretty nuts draw on my end but hey, that's why the cards are in the deck. 2-1.
If you stumble even a little against Burn, you're dead. G1 the opener I kept was really bad against burn (lot of fetches and no Finks) and died pretty handily in a few turns. G2 I kept a 1-lander (forest) with 2 dorks, 2 Kitchen Finks, a Restoration angel, and a Birthing Pod. If I hit a land in my first two turns, I basically win the game (barring multiple Skullcracks). Ended up losing my dorks to Searing Blood (must be new sideboard tech for burn) and not hitting a land in any of my 5-6 turns. Disappointing, but it happens. Was a slightly risky keep on my end (had a ~42% chance to hit a land on my first draw, but I got caught playing the odds). 0-2.
Overall it felt very solid, I like where this deck is going forward (assuming they don't ever ban Pod :P)

I'd love to see that list, too fsbrain.
Please anybody help out here:D
I was trying to fit a Nykthos (together with KotR and Strangleroot Geist) into the Kiki-Pod Shell for a few weeks now. The result is really fun to play and fits my playstyle quite more (the deck chooses the beatdown more often now). Can't say if it's really competitive (Geist it damn nice to set up the combo turn 3, to combo off T4, but seems bad with more and more Anger of the Gods seeing play...).
Summoning Trap looks like an interesting addition at least in the SB.
mull plans are so dependent on numerous factors that its impossible to give a perfect guide. some general advice though...
- any hand with a dork and a pod and two lands that lets you play a dork turn 1 are basically snap keeps.
- dorks are key. you want that early acceleration. i don't consider hands without one to be an auto mulligan, but they are very important which is why you play 8 or more.
- pod is a very good hard to have in your hand, but that doesn't mean you keep every hand with a pod in it.
- one landers are sometimes okay on the draw, but i prefer to have at least 2 dorks when i attempt it since its highly likely they will kill the first and if you stall, you are dead.
i'm just going to do 5 scenarios quick with my current build that might be interesting.
1) mesa, stomping ground, angel, wall of roots, thicket, blade splicer, pridemage
- this is a pretty good opener, while it doesn't do anything crazy you have early defense/acceleration as well as a solid midrange beatdown line and a combo piece.
2) hierarch, 2 grove, linvala, kiki, forest, pridemage
- i would keep this one. you have a dork and a combo piece as well as good ways to interact with twin. you can't cast the linvala currently or the pridemage if your dork eats the bolt, but thats how this deck goes. this hand is really rough against zoo and you probably lose that game, but against an unknown opponent i would keep.
3) mesa, garden, grove, domri, pod, finks, spellskite
- i would probably keep this too. you have twin hate again and early defense and a lot of play at 3 mana. this hand is awesome with a dork off the top on the draw. (there was a grove and then a hierarch sadly :P)
4) fountain, mesa, plains, hierarch, exarch, spellskite, pridemage
- another keep with a combo piece and a turn 1 dork as well as hate.
5) forest, stomping ground, rugged-prairie, kiki, pod, finks, linvala
- this one i'd mull because you just aren't going to get there unless you draw into a dork. on the draw this is way too slow without the dork and on the play you miss the chance to draw into it. (there was a birds on top though if you went for it ;))
6) thicket, island, prairie, birds, pod, 2 kiki
- okay so i did a 6th one because i wanted to see if i could find another interesting scenario. this one i would mull for a couple reasons. 1 - he second kiki is basically a dead draw, but its actually worse than that because i only play two which means i don't have one to pod into now. 2 - despite being able to potentially turn 2 pod, if the bird gets shot we have nothing else to do outside of play a 5 mana 2/2. i don't like hands like this. i'd likely keep it though if the 2nd kiki has pretty much any 2-4 drop though, a zealous would also be too slow in my opinion.
went 3 - 0 tonight. 2 -1 v Mystical Teachings, 2 - 0 v UWR Geist, and 2 - 0 v Jund. i didn't combo off once in 7 games--everything was beat down. a few thoughts:
- moving Huntmaster of the Fells to the sideboard was a good call, and he is an absolute beast in the situations where i side him in (UWR and Jund tonight);
- playing a Loxodon Smiter mainboard was a good call. there's so much UWR or straight up blue counters in this meta that he's super relevant (and his body is huge with an exalted dude);
- siding out 1 Birthing Pod on the draw is a really good play. i did it every time and it helped free up a slot.
there's only one last decision i need to make to finalize my list: the Kiora's Follower slot. she seems to attract removal as soon as she's played, so obviously opponents are concerned about her. that said, she is slow and cute. if she sticks around she's great, but often i don't even want to play her. i think a third Voice of Resurgence is just better, but i suspect Anger of the Gods will see a fair amount of play. tough call.

As for the Kioras Follower flex spot I would probably play a 2nd Wall of Roots. Dodges Anger of the Gods, and is a house against Zoo, or any other deck trying to attack you. It also is a good hedge against Blood Moon.
Do you guys think 1x Courser of Kruphix would be playable over the 3rd/4th Kitchen Finks? It's got the same mana cost, some deck manipulations with fetches/domri/chord/pod, lifegain to offset fetch/shockland, and with 4 toughness survives bolt/anger.

I keep bouncing between Kiki and Melira Pod. I love playing Kiki more than Melira, I think it has a better beatdown, better combo options, and it always seems like there's some crazy line of play that can keep you in games. Melira, however, has a more stable manabase and maindeck Abrupt Decay as well as sideboard Thoughtseize that make combo/blue matchups much more manageable. Are we missing something maindeck like Abrupt Decay that is a good catch-all against creatures and other permanents? Something flexible like Bant Charm, Naya Charm, or Simic Charm?

@Corporal Levinyan: How has your testing been with Courser of Kruphix? My only problem with the card is that you almost never want to pod it (unless you can combo off), and it gives a lot of information to your opponent with not enough gain consistency-wise. A lot of our wins come from the "oops, I win" combo and playing with the top card revealed gives your opponent a chance to prepare for that and hold up countermagic/kill spells and not tap out. Also, how have the Razorverge Thickets been? I like the colors (I've been recently thinking to switching my 1-of Rugged Prairie to Wooded Bastion for early Voice of Resurgences), but it seems like it could hurt your lategame by coming in tapped.
Has anyone tested Flametongue Kavu as a 1-of either main or side? It seems like it could be a useful card for us (general removal that hits hosers like Linvala, Keeper of Silence) akin to Shriekmaw that Melira is maindecking now. Secondly, does anyone actually like Fiery Justice? I've never tested with it either.

I have it as a 2-of in my sideboard and I still like it. It kicks Affinity's butt by killing 2+ creatures in one game and swings the Pod match-up by killing Linvala the next. The opposing life gain can get problematic against GW Hatebears, but I like versatile Plague Winds (Fiery Justice and Caldera Hellion are probably the last Plague Winds standing from what I've seen in the latest Twin Pod sideboards--we've tried Bonfire of the Damned earlier).
