It does work because Triskelion can use some of the counters to damage itself so that it will die and return. It is actually a 1/1 naturally, so you will have to use 2 counters to kill it between it's original 1 toughness and the +1 from Mikaeus. The first time through you can use 1 counter to hit the opponent and the other 2 to kill himself, and then each subsequent time he will come back with 4 counters, so he can use 2 of them to damage the opponent. This combo is pretty commonly seen in EDH actually since it's very easy to Tooth and Nail for in GBx decks.
I'm not sure this combo works. Mikaeus gives Triskelion +1/+1 since it is not a human. So even removing all its +1/+1 counters it will still be a 1/1 creature.
You could make it a 3 card combo with Heartless Summoning. It is in color and makes the combo come out faster.
It works. Remove one counter from Triskelion to deal damage to whatever, then remove the other counters targeting itself. It takes two damage, dies, then Undies from Mikaeus. There's also Mephidross Vampire to pair with Triskelion to kill all creatures, but not players.
Also, three Fiend Hunters isn't infinite in the sense that it has to continue forever, but you get infinite triggers of creatures entering and leaving the battlefield. You need another card in there to use that before it actually does something though. Heartless Summoning plus a pair of Myr Retriever does the same thing, and also has casting and dying triggers.
By the way, can someone explain how Mortus Strider and Deathrender is an infinite combo? Just sounds like a resilient creature to me. Together they do nothing and even if you have a sac outlet to loop him entering the battlefield it still does nothing unless you have something like a Pandemonium effect.
Sporemound and Life and Limb. Infinite saprolings AND infinite green mana. (Bunous points if you sacrifice the saprolings to make a infinite / infinite Wood Elemental.

That's EDH only, so many of the combos aren't Modern legal. And some of those combos use cards that aren't Modern legal but do have Modern legal replacements, which wouldn't even appear there.
2 Jeskai Ascendancy + 3 mana dorks + Whispers of the Muse (Buyback): Mana-neutrally draw your deck and pump your dorks insanely high! (Surprisingly easy to assemble this from 1 Ascendancy + 1-2 dorks)

Thinking outside of the box and targeting itself.
Current Modern Decks:
Amulet of Vigor
Cheeri0's
Combo Slivers
Someone mentioned Hellkite Charger with Bear Umbra. Sword of Feast and Famine also works in place of the umbra.

Cloudstone Curio + Heritage Druid + Nettle Sentinel + Elvish Visionary = infinite draw
I wouldn't call it a good idea, but with Viscera Seer and something like Blood Artist or Purphoros, God of the Forge will kill pretty quickly. With just the Seer you can very nearly stack your deck.

Speaking of that
2 Myr Retriever + Altar of the Brood + Heartless Summoning lets you mill people out completely. Just hope you don't get matched up against Tron though otherwise your combo will look stupid.
My win-con in Weird Harvest Elves:
3x Nettle Sentinel + Heritage Druid + 1 CMC elf + Elvish Visionary + Temur Sabertooth = Infinite card draw.
Bloom Tender - Freed From the Real: infinite {G}
Elite Arcanist - Time Stop: only your turns
Aurelia, the Warleader - Brago, King Eternal - infinite combat steps
And now the 3+ combos:
Blistercoil Weird - Paradise Mantle - any 1-mana cantrips: huge Blistercoil
Basal Sliver - Haakon, Stromgald Scourge - Skeletal Changeling: infinite storm/gravestorm
Emrakul, the Aeons Torn - Cloudstone Curio - any creature: infinite turns
Brago isn't modern legal.
