Augur of Bolas may be slow, but Tiago is also surprisingly slow. After Jund rips my hand a new one, I love digging for stuff with Augur of Bolas. Tiago can't dig for fuel on Turn 3.
I still love playing both of those guys in conjunction, though. Augur of Bolas feeds Tiago pretty well.
If you're searching for combo pieces, Peer Through Depths does Augur of Bolas's job three times better.

Well here's my updated list... Maybe I can see if i have room for Augur of Bolas... I'm just not sure what I would cut for him...
I seperated this list from Caw Blade even though they share many of the same cards. The curve on this deck is a lot higher with Dispell and Cryptics.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
I f you are playing sword in modern if you can get your hands on them the original swords are rather good. Especially the Izzet one. Shocking and drawing = Awesome sauce. The Black white one is not half bad either.
Why don't you use Steelshaper's Gift?
If you'd like to use different swords, you can search one of them with only one mana!
But if I were you,I would use 2nd Sword of FaF instead of Sword of FaI.
Steelshaper's gift is a good card, but you don't need to win with a sword on the board. I think drawing into the swords is good enough. Steelshaper's gift just ends up being slow and clunky.
Fire and Ice has so much value... But Feast and Famine is good too. Personal preference.
I really really like your list. I played cawblade for gp Lincoln and I think this list is a huge step in the right direction for u/w tempo. However, I am extremely curious. What is the metamorph for? Also, how is your martyr-proc match up?

Thanks! As for the metamorph I mainboard 1 because it's a utility card but also to get rid of other legendaries... say.. thrun for example. He can win the game just by himself... I haven't actually played against martyr-proc... Though I am planning to play at GP San Jose (california) in the upcoming fall.
little update as well I took out the remands and am now trying divine deflection.
So im thinking about building a control deck with restoration angel and snapcaster mage, but im not a fan of the lists that i have seen on modo, similar to the one rainey posted (I have tested it with sour opinions on its performance...but i still think the deck is good)
...will finish this post after class...
To continue...
Tapping for a geist of saint traft while my opponent has cards in their hand or a birthing pod at the ready leaves me uneasy. And i like razefire's ideas of what control allows you to do, using disruptive creatures, as its pilot
With that said how far would a true control variant using restoration angel and snapcaster mage differ from the tempo angel deck while still being successful?
Im thinking a minor trinket mage toolbox could be very good through the sideboard also
Decks I have in my bag of tricks- Needless to say, someone who wants to play will probably have a deck UB/x Faeries UR Storm XURWB Affinity G Elves UW control
After playing more and more, I still prefer the Hawks. The card advantage, ability to be defense or offense and carry weapons is indispensable. I'm thinking of moving into Esper color territory just for hand disruption. Inquistion/Thoughtseize are amazing ways to get hand info and apply pressure/disruption. Snapping them back is very powerful. I can't go with Bob because I still like some late game power in Elspeth/Cryptic and weapons, but the hand disruption is amazing and blends very well with countermagic. Ive always been playing Trinket Mage just for Engineered Explosives/PNeedle/Relic setup and it has never disapointed. Trinket Mage has always added card advantage and value, as well as versatility at attacking different strategies.
It seems like with restoration angel you have the ability to gain more value though. It appears to be in the same vein as momentary blink control decks however built with more reactive plays and instant speed threats. Im not comparing it to squadron hawks but sometimes i would rather have a card that can widen my options... as far as seeking the correct lines of play are concerned anyway. Im still looking into the opportunities created by squadron hawk for discussion in the caw-blade thread. However i am not looking to use swords as the interaction that puts myself ahead of the opponent in this variant of the strategy. I think the restoration control thread can be made to mean something other than the midpoint of caw-blade and Angel-tempo. With blink triggers we have the ability to reuse snapcasters that are in play (obviously) and this is a benefit that should be considered going forward.
I should explain that with the lack of card draw people can be comfortable with in UW, having cards with multiple purposes for advantage is an idea worth looking into (i believe jace is our best option without a mild artifact package for thirst for knowledge), and maybe im looking too heavily into the potential of a momentary blink that can block, but that remains to be seen.
Decks I have in my bag of tricks- Needless to say, someone who wants to play will probably have a deck UB/x Faeries UR Storm XURWB Affinity G Elves UW control
Restoration angel is a amazing card. But its strategically different from SHawks.
She saves creatures from removal. She flies. She has flash and she can allow reuse of etb effects, and survives lightning bolt. All amazing.
Wouldnt she be better in a deck that abuses etb more then? I mean, flickering KFinks is cute but not back breaking. Flickering Scm is very good obviously. Maybe a Bant setup with Thragtusk, snapcaster, Court Hussar, etc. Seems like youd get more value in Bant colors.
Ive played with her and she is an amazing creature, even in U/W. But she doesnt seem like a control card. Either way, Id be inclined to add a 3rd color, either Esper or Bant for more versatility. Even Esper has discard plus snapcaster coupled with vendilion cliques. Blinking vendilion clique, snapcasters for removal and discard with Restoration angel seems like a great disruption package.
so i built this on a whim last night and decided to play it in an 8 person tournament. i didn't know the list number by number, but i knew what cards went where. missing only the finks and legendary land, i felt pretty good going into it. but it seems like without card draw, our only means of card advantage are remands, cryptics, and snapcasters. sadly, the list i vaguely remembered ran a reduced number of each counter spell. my sideboard was also seriously wrong. i threw in a bunch of general answers and hoped for the best. not knowing the deck at all and not knowing how to play each match up (sweet deal while playing a tempo deck eh?) only made things harder.
my impressions are:
inconsistent - no two opening hands looked similar. and because of the specificities of the answers in the deck, this meant playing each hand in a different manner (which is no problem, but it seems like a weakness when thinking about a deck).
few answers for early problems - without a path or some sort of removal, i felt that beat down decks could establish a position pretty quickly. maybe some mass removal effect is needed? coming from fae, shackles solves this problem, but there aren't enough islands in this deck to warrant that particular out.
mana shortage - running 25 lands, i figured it'd be good enough to not miss drops and stuff. i never actually had mana issues, but the format is fast enough that by the time i had 5 mana to equip and swing with a FaF, i was already in a disadvantageous position.
conclusion - if the deck is refined a bit, and i personally fix the numbers i used in my version (reiterate: built in 5 minutes), this deck could be pretty sweet. my biggest issue is that it runs a lot of 2s and 3s that hurt it more than it helps it. the finks definitely would have helped quite a bit, but everyone wants finks. haha.

I speak in sarcasm because calling people ******* ******** is not allowed.
How do you guys think about this list?
This is the 13th place deck in Yokohama GP.
It seems very amazing for me.
Spellstutter Sprite is great.
"I'm terribly afraid of many of the one mana costed spells in the format. Spellstutter Sprite is amazing, its like a Mental Misstep with a body",this deck user said.
3 Geist of Saint Traft
3 Restoration Angel
4 Snapcaster Mage
4 Spellstutter Sprite
3 Vendilion Clique
17 creatures
2 Cryptic Command
3 Mana Leak
4 Path to Exile
2 Remand
2 Spell Pierce
2 Spell Snare
2 Sword of Feast and Famine
17 other spells
Sideboard
2 Annul
2 Baneslayer Angel
2 Disenchant
1 Dismember
3 Kitchen Finks
2 Relic of Progenitus
1 Sword of Fire and Ice
2 Wrath of God
15 sideboard cards
That list seems pretty cool. Spellstutterer Sprite does have that feeling lol. One mana spells, particuarly discard by Jund can be backbreaking, or all of RDW cheap dudes and burn spells. Deck looks pretty sweet overall. Shoryuken!
To begin with,I didn't like non-sprite build well.
I tried Vedalken Shackles or swords, but it seemed be very heavy.
But I had no way to deal with cheap mustcounters,e.g.Path to Exile,Cranial Plating,or Tarmo.I even tried more counter and remove build.
I almost gave up UR Restoration control, but this list persuaded me to try again.
And it works completely!
Spellstutter Sprite reduces heaviness, and works as clocker.
Remarkable point is that we can Restore her and gain advantage without paying mana cost!
When we blink Snapcaster Mage,we have to pay additional cost of flashback,so if we want to take more advantages, we have to prepare additional mana(of courese except for Φ mana.)
But sprite works only to pay 4 mana and restore. That's amazing!
This is the reason why I love spirte.

You are aware that flickering a Hussar will kill it right? I'd be more inclined to have Augur of Bolas as it fits into the curve better and can be flickered with more value.
I dont know about this sprite list.
While i do agree its a great card, it seems like outside a fae deck it losses most of its power, the ability to counter all range of spells, shudder from scion, and all that.
If you wanna counter 1 mana spells so badly, use spell pierce. Opp will most likely use them on his first turn or two, when pierce shines.
Sprite is under no means a mental misstep. EVER. Its not even close.

I know sprite doesn't mean Mental Misstep. She can't be played without paying mana cost or before turn 3 at least."Its like a Mental Misstep WITH A BODY."
But I seldom agree to use spell pierce in stead of Sprite.
Spell pierce is a great card, but its goodness doesn't remain after mid or end game.Considering when we face Path to Exile or Lightning Bolt in end game,I don't use pierce instead of Sprite.
The same could be said about mana leak, but that doesnt mean the card should be replaced, IMO. A path is always annoying, but i dont think sprite is the solution we need.
The deck can already handle it pretty well blinking with angel, and even if you do lose a creature,t hats were shackles come in to get a replacement.
IMO, the card us a must in this deck, since a resolved shackles puts the opponent in so much pressure that it usually wins us the game alone.
Still, theorymoon has failed before, so i will give it a try, and see how i like it.

Shackles is of great use,I know, but what card do you reduce in order to use it?
Remember,there are really many anti-artifact cards,e.g.Grudge,Disenchant,Annul,Steel Sabotage,or Pridemage.
Overall, I was mostly happy with the deck. The matches I lost were mostly to my own play mistakes (Not being more aggressive with my snapcaster mages in my draw, missplaying mutavaults with Ostone, not understanding all the interactions in the naya pod deck). One thing that I did wish I had was another way to apply pressure without tapping out. With all the combo decks around that can just kill you, I often felt like I couldn't tap out on turn 3 to play a finks/geist. I might try out mindcensor as I saw some list that ran him, but that feels kind of weak/loose.
Shackles was by far the best card in my deck, I even warped my mana base to support it and was very happy I did. You can't just not play a card that's bonkers because of possible hate for it. If I were to play this deck again, I would probably have a third shackles in the board and cut another seachrome coast for another island source (fetch or hallowed fountain).
