On topic: I am glad Wizards realized that leaving Punishing Fire in a format without Nacatl as the face of aggro decks was a bad idea. That would be horribly degenerate. I really wanted some unbans, but I think I can live with this for now.
Well, I guess 2/3 on prediction was kind of ok at least.
i wasn't expecting nacatl nor punishing fire. i don't think fire was that broken. nacatl just flips off zoo, not the problem of aggro. zoo is a good archtype, now i fear it will just move to jund.
I only thought "THOSE DICKS!!!!!". I hate how long the ban list is, and they just keep adding to it. When they remove cards from the format, they make it weaker overall. They could just make decks stronger by unbanning things, but no, that's apparently too hard.

Everyone knows that good luck and good game are such insincere terms that any man who does not connect his right hook with the offender's jaw on the very utterance of such a phrase is no man I would consider as such.
not sure how I feel about these. I didn't feel Punishing was the problem, wanted Grove to get hit.
As for Nactl, not sure how i feel
grove and fire were equally the "problem". but grove allows for kavu decks, fire does not. plus fire isn't played in burn, so it doesn't matter much. ban the combo is what they did. that alone.

Bloodbraid Elf into Liliana of the Veil is probably one of the more powerful things you can do in this format now. The main issue is that, with PKFire gone, you lose a reliable discard outlet. I am not sure if Jund will immediately rise to the top now. Martyr Proc and Melira are still incredibly good decks with a lot of lifegain to ignore the combat tricks.
Actually, part of the reason to play Martyr Proc was because it had amazing game against Zoo. With Zoo probably going to slow down a bit, Martyr Proc probably just lost its best matchup. Other decks will fill in the slots and will kill it.
me too kinda. though i don't know how much it will do. goyf is still around. basically grove combo will help some other creature decks out, that is all. jund will soon be your new stupid deck of the century.

Yup, but i don't really find goyf a problem. There are many ways to deal with him. As so were for Nacatl, but nacatl was just... nacatl.
Yeah, Jund is one of the decks that can and will be really dangerous now. But so will other decks.
But Punishing Fire can act as a nice check against Soul Sister decks and other lifegain. Burn doesn't play, but it could be a nice option for other decks.
Just saying, I think Grove could have been removed and Punishing Fire would not have been a big problem. But one or the other had to go. And maybe newer aggro can develop, specially the Folk.
The real question is.....are faeries/merfolk or some other fish deck viable now
Fish? No. Other tribal aggro like Doran or Goblin/RDW? Yes. Aether Vial goblins is actually looking very scary right now.
The funny part is that I don't think these bannings really helped the Gifts control decks at all. They lost a win condition, and zoo didn't really lose it's ability to kill on turn 4. In fact, now Zoo has a better incentive to pack maindeck LD instead of punishing fire/grove.
Stupid, just plain stupid. You might think I am talking about the bans, but no, I am talking about what wizards thinks we are that we cannot build decks that can deal with a threat like Punishing Fire. Treating us like fragile cry-babies is insulting.
Zoo has not lost a whit of power with the ban of Miss Kitty. LOL, I can't wait to hear the cries for banning KirdLion once everyone realizes Zoo still has plenty of power.
...and Wizards will probably do it. Lord know they can't leave it up to the players to find answers.
I don't play either of the banned cards, and at times they have screwed with my decks, but instead of throwing up my hands and calling for a ban I found ways to answer these threats. Modern has the most absurd ban list. I am very embarrassed to admit I play this format, because it makes the players look bad that wizards feels these bans are needed.

Oh come on. You are reasonable. Surely you saw what Punishing Fire was doing to the format. There was almost no reason to play it in any deck, it gave balls-to-the-wall aggro stupid amounts of reach, and it absolutely killed diversity in deckbuilding. Not playing Dissipate/Surgical Extraction/some kind of land destruction? Ha, have fun losing.
Nacatl may not have been necessary, but some part of Punishing Grove had to go.
Also, copy-pasting the same response in all the threads mentioning the updates does not make you look intelligent at all.
those bannings are not what I was hoping for, I was hoping for some big format altering banning, or even some unbannings,
O man all of those people who bought grove of the burnwillows are going to be so pissed off. It is going to go right back to it's pre-modern announcement price which was like 50 cents people paid $10-15 or more a piece for this card. And there are still auctions on ebay going right now!!!!
Not likely, PK Fire is starting to see play in Legacy, so if it does drop in price, it will likely drop really, really slowly.
Well, I might put in Tidehollow back into my deck.
