I would suggest getting T1,5 - T2 decks, preferably in mono color, that arent so expensive atm, you will still be able to win with them if you build them properly to counter your meta and you will save a crapload of money on top of that.
The thing is we are waiting until after the pt. Once that passes we will have a better view of the established meta. Once we have the meta we will be dividing this forum into sections (like standard/legacy etc). There we will segregate it based on decks/tiers/budget etc.
The current prices are just a Bubble. Once the format cements itself, the prices will go down, as well as when WotC realize Chronicles 2: Electric Boogaloo (in the form of 6 Card boosters for 1$ more than normal boosters) won't be a disaster and will instead be literal money printing for them.
There is also a very simple way to lower prices... STOP BUYING THE CARDS AT THESE RIDICULOUS PRICES. If no-one buys them, they will drop the price. It's simple economics. If people are willing and able to buy Goyf for $80, they will sell it for $80!
Because everyone is going to stop paying for cards...that's worked quite well. Trade up or suck it up, that's basically how it's always been at power cards and Modern is definitely the future. Though I have confidence that Wizards will reprint these cards.
I really don't see the reason behind only shocklands having the basic land subtypes. why not make filter and pain lands fechable. that will decrease the overall price of dual lands.
ABU duals run from $60-120. Rav shocks run from $25-40. They are staples in just about every legacy/modern deck that runs fetches. What do you think?
The equivalent would be if a card like Terramorphic Expanse fetch untapped basics. Does that sound balanced compared to the Zendikar fetches?
Interesting thing to note: In Zendikar, they are printing the rather mediocre M10 lands instead of shocks, so shocks will only rise in price for the next ~10 months. Buy shocks now.
As for prices, Vesuva is bringing down Plateau value right now! That is crazy high, no one where I am plays modern (yet) but there is no way 12post is that good...
Also, Ghost Quarter got a little out of hand. $5 seems kinda pricey when it doesn't really affect to many decks (that I see) in the format. Is that just cause of 12post too?
Phyrexian Dreadnought and Time Vault have been messed with a little bit.
They quit the use of the errata after flash, at which point they went back to only banning and restricting cards. Any changes to card text will keep the same funtionality and only be used to clear up wordy/confusing text.

Best deck in the format. Just look at the MTGO daily events.

Yes and no. It is pretty good against any deck that runs utility lands, and most do between academy ruins, cloudpost, and grove of the burnwillows.

aside from the prices. i really hate how people have been hating on the ban list. although it is very questionable for a few cards. i understand wizards wants to create a new format where established decks won't be in power.

Except that the bannings made one of the established decks in power with virtually no cards that are different from the legacy decks.
Yeah maybe not on MTGO dailies because the Zoo cards are expensive, but there is no question that Zoo is a powerful deck in Modern and when real events start happening it will be out in force.
Even though no one plays zoo it is a looming threat. It was like jund or affinity in its time. Either prepare for it or lose to it.
this look at Pt austin I think it was. it had 5-6 zoo decks in the top 8 lol. Zoo is a major deck in legacy, and it only loses 1 card that it ran as a two of other than True duals. Having to lose life to play things only really matters against mono red or maybe boros. Other than that it won't lose to any other decks because of the 4-6 life that they typically spend.

I wouldn't consider dailies as the best evidence of what actually is the best deck. Just cause 12-Post is tearing it up on MTGO doesn't mean a whole lot especially in a format that hasn't been fully explored. I would at least wait until the Pro Tour modern event to see what decks are the best.
I know what basic land subtypes mean, thank you very much.
What I am asking is why can't painlands, for example, also be given basic land types. Their drawbacks aren't inherently better than shocklands or anything. Making shocklands universally better than painlands by restricting the basic land subtype to them seems stupid.
Giving painlands basic land types would increase the supply of usable dual lands without creating any balance problems.

I think what you're trying to suggest is that painlands be given errata/reprints that give them basic land types and an ability like, "Whenever you tap this for colored mana, this deals 1 damage to you." But nobody cares because that's a bad idea and you can't seem to articulate it properly. The Shocklands would still be almost strictly better and with fetches and shocks there's no more room in the mana base. After those first two Zoo runs a few Ghost Quarters and three basic lands. Three!
If your intent is to increase the supply of Shocklands, campaign for a second coming of Chronicles. Make them white-bordered for all I care. It'll improve Wizard's bottom line and help out Johnny Magic. Building a proper Junk deck will run you upwards of $1500 right now. Same for Zoo.

That is true which is why these threads havnt gone through a massive overhaul yet. Once we figure out the meta and tier decks we will be organizing the sub forums a lot better like standard or legacy.

several of us have tested it against all of the good decks that we can come up with it and tends to hose those. Emrakul on turn 4 is broke, and you can't make them discard land cards with any of the spot discard spells. You essentially need hymn to turach into stupor to stand a chance with discard.

What's so special about a shockland that differs it from, say, a pain land?
Both have drawbacks, but the timings are different. One has drawbacks when you play it, and another when you use it for colored mana.
But only shocklands are fetchable. Why? They should both be fetchable.
@Bacon. your post makes no sense.

Because basic supertypes mean they produce that color of mana, so if all those lands were errated they'd no longer have any purpose.
