I have played nahiri/emrakul in a 8 players tournament...
2/1 vs titanshift
2/1 vs affinity
0/0 vs jund (we haven't played, we were already quelified)
Top 4:
0/2 vs urza
Bedlam is great but it's too heavy for this no looting version (x1 + 2 nahiri and 3 lands on g1 and 3x + emrakul on g2 made the day for urza). We can't reach the necessary number of spells in the GY that often so i think i will go with 3 SP (when i'll buy them and 1 bedlam as a second nahiri target).
Btw the deck seems solid... I must decide if i want to go with 3 or 4 lingerings (21 or 22 lands) and if we need that much a wrath in mainboard. 2x chandra AOF is a must. What do you think?
Congrats bij that result by the way. Bit unlucky in the urza matchup
The Seasoned Pyromancer upgrade over Bedlam Reveler, will improve your deck a lot I guess. Without looting, Reveler is too hard to cast indeed.
Chandra, Acolyte of Flame seems like a cool addition. It speeds up the Nahiri ultimate. And can protect herself with the right cards in the graveyard. Don't know what to cut yet. But if you got any test-results with her: please share them
About the Lingering Souls: play 4. It's one of the better cards in the deck and protects our walkers. Especially when you also run some Chandra's.
25 instants/sorceries feels fine. In previous Mardu builds, the pyromancer was part of the win condition. Killing the opponent with a token swarm. I used to play 29 instants/sorceries those days.
But in my current build, Young Pyromancer serves as a defensive block against threats and protecting nahiri. If I'm able to get a least one token out of it, it already paid off. But many times, I fill the board anyways
This list is super sweet. What are the more obvious flaws of it? Anything you feel its lacking apart from T1 looting..?
* You preferibly hit your third land by turn 3 (for Spyro, or the sideboard threats like Blood moon, Kambal, Anger). With 22 lands it's 90.5% / 84.7% chance of that (on the draw/play). This is oke, but not fantastic.
* Sometimes I did drop my 4th land, but missing a W for Nahiri
* Sometimes I'm forced to discard Nahiri with Spyro. That's awkward. But mostly Spyro outperforms in this deck.
Overall: I'm really really happy with it. And it plays out pretty sweet.
I'd definitely tweak the mana if you're settled on the rest of the deck. You have several more black sources than necessary, but barely enough red for Spyro; I'd swap Dragonskull Summit for Clifftop Retreat, and look to add red/white if you decide to go to 23 lands.
I've seen some lists run 3 instead of 4 Nahiri--I think this is probably a mistake, given the number of ways we have to discard an extra copy?

I was thinking the same thing about the SP. I will go with 22 lands, only 1 chandra (probably) , no mainboard wrath (i'm afraid another 4 drop would be too heavy), 4 souls, the YP and 1 ajani in mainboard or in the sideboard (probably sb).
I had no chandras in the tournament but i knew that i could have hand problems without the nahiri discard so i added a night's whispers as a temporary raplacement (just to say i have no feedback for AoF). Having an easier hand reload (SP) and a free spell from the GY per turn (chandra aof) are exactly what i missed the most during the tournament.
Big manas are less problematic than before, they are still a though mu, but not unwinnable anymore. I think this deck will do very well if fixed.
I don't think so... Looting gave us 2 cards and made us draw before discard and had the flashback (no card loss) that was the strongest thing in that card, this is a "sacrifice 2 cards for 1 at random"... I think we just have to leave the old archetype and let it rest in peace
Going to give Nahiri a spin this weekend. The deck really wants to hit the 3rd land drop, so I was initially looking at a 23rd land, but broke down the numbers and saw that the real problem was not drawing into the 3rd land after keeping 2, so I decided to run a draw spell in that spot instead, which benefits from synergy with Young Pyro and Chandra. Still working on optimizing the manabase without Blackcleave, but it's functional. I could see swapping the 3rd Dreadbore for a 2nd Chandra, since she can buy them back. Looking to add Extirpate to the sideboard but don't own any...
Great list! Good luck with the deck. Hope it's doing well for you.
I think the draw-spell vs 23th land is a good choice. The only replacement I would make, is switching Molten Rain for some Pillage. Better against Whir/Urza/Thopter decks and the Stoneforge Mystic decks.
After-action report (see deck two posts up, with updated mana). Went 2-2 in a local tournament, deck performed well for the most part and felt a lot smoother than the Smallpox build I tried last week. Matchups were:
1-2 UR Control: straightforward win in game 1, lost to unanswerable Jace in both postboard matches.
2-1 Vizier Combo: very tight match, I closed out game 3 with a bolt with a Kitchen Finks trigger on the stack after clearing the rest of their defenders with EE on 2 into Push on Shalai. Would have gone south fast if I'd drawn poorly.
2-0 Mardu Pyromancer: older build with Reveler and Unearth. My starts were faster, and my top end was bigger--this was the only match where Nahiri was able to go off.
1-2 Amulet Titan: lost the die roll in game 1 and was a turn away from lethal when he went off with Titan+Field of the Dead. He never reached 6 mana in game 2 thanks to land destruction + Chandra AOF. Game 3 was rough, I destroyed the first Amulet of Vigor but he had another; I then started to build up a substantial Pyro+elemental board only to be completely overwhelmed by back-to-back Titans with no answers to be found.
Mostly wound up playing the classic elemental swarm strategy, Nahiri only came into play a handful of times and mostly served as removal magnet. 22 lands + draw spell felt great, I was usually pretty happy to cast Night's Whisper, rarely flooded, and only got stuck on 2 lands once for a turn or two. The canopy lands may not belong; the deck has other ways to mitigate flood (10 discard outlets) and while I did end up cashing them in several times, the pain may not be worth it. Chandra's minus felt great, I could definitely see running 2 copies if I could something to cut. I didn't find myself boarding in Ajani at all, though perhaps his +1 would have contributed to the land denial strategy vs Titan. I might prefer some hard removal e.g. Path in that spot, or possibly in the main replacing Push since I'm not running Blood Moon.
Thanks for your report!! It's competitive for sure
Like you said, Nahiri is indeed a removal magnet. But with her downtick on her first turn, it should be a 2 for 1 most times.
I like you played with Chandra AoF. I think I will try one too soon!
Anyone looking at 1-2x Castle Embereth in builds with Young Pyro? Should be pretty painless to replace a basic Mountain and occasionally accelerate a token kill by a (potentially crucial) turn.
I don't know. I currently run 22 lands, with 8 fetches. From the remaining 14 cards, only 5 of them are mountain.
If I start replacing basic mountains for Castle Embereth... The mana base is getting too clunky maybee.
I also run 2 blood moons in the SB. Which reduces the impact of this new land in my deck.
On the other side. The potential impact is amazing. Especially with the 1/1 flying tokens from lingering souls.
Final thougts: the wins are bigger, number of losses increases. For me it's a no.
Ah yeah, the standard manabase with fastlands probably has a little more trouble squeezing it in. My weird budget version (as in the list a few posts up) has 15 mountains if you count the fetches, which is enough to safely swap 1 out at least. Agree that it's probably not worth it if you're running Blood Moon.
Hello All! This is a deck I've been working on for a while now, if you'd like to read about my justifications please take a look at the deck here (this link takes you to TappedOut.net).
I'd like to know your guys' opinion on ditching the Blood Moons for a Smallpox package. Unsurprisingly, Young Pyromancer is a great payoff card for Smallpox allowing you to eek out value. Smallpox allows you to also fill your graveyard with cards very quickly, justifying the inclusion of Gurmag Angler over the standard Bedlam Reveler. You lose the card advantage engine of Seasoned Pyromancer and Bedlam Reveler but gain a powerful, more general use, form of disruption in Smallpox.
I'd love to hear your thoughts, concerns, and suggestions on how to improve this variant.

I like your deck, but here are some suggestions:
* 24 lands seems a bit too much. Your mana curve tops at 3cmc. I know this decks lacks card draw engines. But 23 lands would be the maximum I think.
* You don't have that much discard outlets. I definitely would go up to 4x Lingering Souls
* Unearth seems perfect in a Smallpox version. Maybee add another one?
Today i made a 20 ppl tournament on my lgs with Nahiri Emrakul and the YP pack as a second wincon (no dreadhorde, no batterskull), these are the results:
M1: 0-2 vs Hardened Scales
I never played against this deck and i made too many mistakes, i think this MU is all but unwinnable
M2: 2-0 vs uw control
Lingering and discards are the way for the win... They don't have the right removal for me/us (i play with 4 YP as a second win condition)
M3: 1-2 Amulet Titan
As always big manas felt unwinnable except for g2 in which pillage-little chandra-pillage made the day... I still think that mardu will always have problems with it, tron and titanshift even if i think this is simply the worst deck possible for us.
M4: 2-0 Burn
As always helix, brutality and kambal are our wincoin... Discard spells if played well are a must. I still think is a rough MU
M5: 2-0 Ad Nauseam
Discards and YP in g1 and discards and Souls in g2. We are slow on closing but in the topdeck mode they can't easly win
Top 8... Amulet Titan again: 0-2
I think that Emrakul is a support wincoin (i shifted to this deck thinking on YP as the second but maybe i was wrong). I won 7 games but only 1 with emrakul (against Burn, an already won match)... Nahiri is a beast, everyone hates it, eats all the possible removals and is a powerhouse in topdeck. Emrakul is meh, never really casted it but i don't think i'll remove it (it scares too much)... SP is simply great. Chandra AoF is a staple in this deck, she gives you too much amd is our flexible Snapcaster. I think the deck is fine and has the known big mana problem (even if nahiri/emrakul makes the tron and titanshift MU not favorable but roughly winnable). What would you board in?
Great to see some results with the Nahiri build! Chandra AoF is great indeed, fantastic card. I do play one myself too.
I agree on Emrakul, it feels like a secondary win-condition. But Nahiri is too good in this build. So why not play Emrakul as a bonus
And it does win some matches occasionally, when some push-through damage is needed.
As for the big mana matches: I play 2x Blood Moon and 2x Fulminator Mage. Fulminator is also great with Kolaghan's Command. Sometimes it's enough to win, but overall it's still a heavy matchup. We can't win everything
I made another tournament, splitted on top 4:
M1: 2-1 Hardened scales
M2: 2-0 Urza
Don't know which... Discard, discard, pyromancer and he is gone
M3: 0-2 uw Mentor
Winnable, i had 5-6 bad cards hands in both games.
M4: 2-0 classic uw control
M5: 1-1 Titanshift
Not played, we were already qualified
Top 8:
2-0 bogles:
Tough MU... They had hexproof but discards and nahiri-chandrina-elemental tokens made the day in g1 (even casted an emrakul with nahiri still alive for the win). G2: he kept a middle/bad hand with a leyline of sanctity, looted all the discards and went the anti-auras nahiri mode. I didn't drop all the pushes because i wanted a remotion for the non hexproof drawer and when he attacked with a powered up dryad forest i did the most satisfyng push ever made.
I posted it only for the bogles MU, i thought it was unwinnable but a well protected nahiri can do a 3/4-1 easly. I played this deck 3 times and went top 4, top 8, top 4. Luckly i played against big manas only a bunch of times but the deck seems pretty solid against all other decks. I think that we have the best SB possible and post side our deck feels really strong. Burn and wg auras are the only meh MU out of the big Manas. Maybe i could drop the second damping sphere for an additional Bloodmoon in side (we have a great choose of swissknife spells for our sideboard and 3 big mana dedicated cards+ 3 pillage can be a way, even if i think we still need a great beater). In any case jund has our same pros and cons (the only difference is that tarmo can steal a big mana game sometimes) so if it is played i don't know why we are not. The deck is way better that its online results.
You've been doing pretty well! Congrats on the results. Good to see them
I just ordered a second Chandra AoF. I feel it's an amazing addition to this deck!
I've been an edh player the last couple of years but the printing of modern horizons and throne of eldraine peaked my interest in this type of deck. I figured there is decent synergy when it comes to young pyro and the new adventure cards. Also included Kolaghan's Command to get extra value from adventure cards by bringing them back from the yard if the creature version gets killed. The sideboard is still a work in progress.
