Has anyone tried running brain maggots in this style of deck?
the discard effect is disruptive, admittedly the body is small, but if the creature dies it adds the enchantment to the GY. This can help make goyfs and flayers stronger, and the discard effect can be recurred with Lilliana the last hope.
I say brain maggot over similar cards like kite sail freebooter and tidehollow sculler. sculler would make the manabase have to supply white mana by turn two, but it has a bigger body and provides artifact in the GY. Kitesail freebooter has flying which is nice, is as easy to cast as maggot, but because it doesn’t put a unique type into the GY I don’t think this would make the cut.
Just wondering if anyone had tried it out.

I'm going to try it personally. I don't play GTT since hollow one and affinity are relevant matchups that make GTT way too much of a liability, while the non legendary clause isn't going to be too relevant since there isn't a deck that plays all legendaries and we should be able to balance our removal where it lines up ok.
Yeah, I’ll try one in olace for GftT as well. Being a blank against Affinity and can’t kill Hollow One kinda hurts but the trade of is that it won’t kill Clique, Thalia, Tasigur, Mom and Dad. Those are the ones on top of my head in the current Modern rn.
I'm sure these have been asked in the previous thread but I can't get at that now.
What do people think of Worship as SB tech for the Bogles matchup? Also can come in against lots of aggro decks. I'm also interested in running Settle the Wreckage as my SB board wipes, it can catch a Bogle even with an Umbra and again is great against aggro in general. Only trouble is getting double white, but if we're running 4 Paths we can probably rejig the mana to make it work.
The other card I was considering is Wheel of Sun and Moon as our grave hate, as it doesn't affect us but shuts off future graveyard use from T2, which seems much better against Hollow One than Nihil Spellbomb or constantly leaving mana up for an easily-answered Scavenging Ooze.
I’ve been playing a golgari charm in my board for years now. Against bogles, I usually side out paths and bring in damnation, flaying tendrils and golgari charm. I usually want a hand with abrupt decay and maelstrom pulse or charm in it. That way we can take out a leyline of sanctity and then start to take over with Liliana.
Little angel, go away come again some other day the Devil has my ear today I'll never hear a word you say. He promised I would find a little solace and some peace of mind. Whatever. just as long as I don't feel so desperate and ravenous.

I play with Golgari Charm too when I sleeve up abzan. It's a great versatile card. It usually comes in against Mardu and other token heavy builds.
Guys. What do you think of the new 2cmc removal in BG? I’m thinking of replacing my Go for the Throat. My removal suite right now goes like this.
2x Abrupt Decay
4x Fatal Push
1x Dismember
1x Gi for the Throat
2x Maelstrom Pulse.
I'm cutting Dismember in favour of the new Cast Down in another midrange list. To me, the only target it doesn't hit is Tasigur.
Regarding Abzan in the current meta i'd say Path to Exile is back as a viable option against the recursive power of some decks.
3 path 3 push seems decent.
On a sidenote, Looking at the more GW based lists going around lately. Would Loxodon Smiter be a good choice over Tireless Tracker v.s. Hallow One and Jund type decks?
Hey guys. Currently running Abzan Rites and I’m loving it. My question is, I don’t currently own the money cards like Goyf, Liliana, Bob, etc. what would be the 1st upgrades you’d make into a straight Abzan Midrange build? Thanks in advance.

I would probably use Obstinate Baloth instead since it has more purposes due to lifegain. I wouldn't run it maindeck though, but i used it in the side many times.
There's one fringe downside when opponent plays IoK and you have one card in hand. Both also work against Reality Smasher btw.
Nice, Didn't realize this interaction! Thank you for that.
There are builds that doesn’t run Bob or Nobles. Liliana and Goyfs are a must though. If you’re willing, I’d go for Lilies first then Goyfs. Prices are spiking right now though.

Loxodon Smiter discard to Burning inquiry is a nice interaction, but a 4/4 doesn't really put you in a great winning position against a deck thats playing 4/4 Hollowed Ones, Tasigurs and Angulars. I think we should stick to Damnation/ Nihil Spell Bombs.

I could see Sun and Moon being a fine choice, the deck really doesn't have a good way of removing Sun and Moon. The issue right now is Mardu Pyromancer, Living End are also picking up in popularity, I think we should stick to Nihil Spell Bomb.

I would say Goyf yes, Liliana maybe, she is slightly high maybe she will go down a bit and bob should prob be last on priority. 4x Bob isn't played in every abzan list, I have seen lists without bob (I'm not saying its correct, I'm just pointing that out)
- I personally could definitely see a Golgari Charm being good right now.
- About the boggles matchup, I have seen people play Runed Halo and name their boggled creatures. Traditionally, Engineered Explosives have been good against the boggles deck. I don;t think we can be playing flaying tendrills right now, I think we need to stick to 2x Damnation to fight humans and hollowed one.
My inclination is if you really hate boggles, I would go +1 Engineered Explosives and +1 Golgari Charm.

For the Smiter or Baloth vs Hollow One topic, I think most people simply forget that Burning Inquiry is there to generate explosives starts when you need to win fast. Against us, they don't need to do that and typically side out some or even all Burning Inquiries. Let alone for the fact that it is card disadvantage for them.

The hollowed one deck boards out burning inquiries? I don't think that is ever correct.

You basically want Burning Inquiry against faster decks where you need to race. It enables the most explosive starts but that itsn't that important against slower decks. Against slower grindy decks it becomes worse so boarding out at least some copies makes sense.

I see him recommending boarding out against Grixis shadow but not Jund.
I;ve noticed in the rivals quarter finals, Reid Duke who was on Abzan against BR hollowed one his opponent still had the burning
He had 2 of them boarding out against Jund under the matchup and sideboard plans section of the article. He also mentioned that boarding out all of them could be possible correct but he's not sure about it.
Generally speaking I think you want to board them out but possibly/probably not all of them. I would do so at least and also did in my games against slower grindy decks like Jund or Abzan when I tried out the deck and played a few games with it.
I think I need to watch a few more games before I comment further, but anyways I think we should return back to topic about side boarding against BR hollowed obe

what is everyone sideboard plans for Hollow One? The only thing I am confident on is 4 LOTV out for 2 Damnations, 2 Spellbombs. Interested what other slots people take out. For reference I am playing the centralised list.

Any battle with Abzan on the weekend at the GP? I see only one list made it to day 2

isn't tidehollow sculler better?

I think 2 damnations in the sideboard is definately correct. But mainboarding damnations sounds really extreme.
