Creature decks i.e. Humans. We go full control against these decks, If you are on Friedman's list, board out some Anglers, Wraiths and Denial and bring in all removal spells. Try to stabilize the board then start dropping giant Shadows.
I think the 4 bauble and 2 faithless looting package in conjunction with street wraiths and thought scour is the better option for turn two. I don't think that the stitcher's supplier really adds any value to the deck

It adds value because you get a 1/1 attacking or blocking on turn 2.
What's the strategy against Ad Nauseam? Guy in my local meta is piloting it. Haven't played him yet but haven't played against the deck before either. Just want to be prepared.
The last 5-0 list in MTGgoldifsh, have many cantrips and i like it, 2 Looting, 3 SV, 3 Thogth Scour and 4 Baubles. The sideboar seems spice, minus Jace.

I want to run the Ben Friedman list (-1 Snap, +1 Bolt) for a PPTQ on saturday.
Recently many players in my LGS have talked and started picking up UW(g) Spirits. Any matchup advice? My current plan ist more or less Bens Humans plan (become the control deck). What do you guys think?
Bens Humans plan
-3 Stubborn Denial
-4 Gurmag Angler
-4 Street Wraith
-1 Temur Battlerage
+2 Liliana, tlH
+2 Kommand
+2 Abrade
+2 EE
+2 Grim Lavamancer
+2 Collective Brutality
Does anyone in here play both grixis shadow and grixis control? I'd be interested to hear what makes you want to play one over the other and how you think they are both faring right now.
I do, only in paper though so my scope is a lot more limited
Control: So I'd say the big 4 are Tron, Mardu Pyro, Hollow One, and Humans. I think humans is the only match up that is favored but none of them feel unwinnable, although the nut draw from hollow one or playing into a blood moon from mardu can feel that way. Combo in general feels really easy to play against, as long as you know what the combo is and hold up mana for the proper answer every turn it goes live (also a surgical or two sideboard goes a long way, especially with the snapcaster package). Creature heavy decks, outside of mardu pyromancer and eldrazi decks, are typically pretty easy because you can answer the threat either on cast or as it hits the table. I haven't played much control vs. control, but i assume its strong because the grind that the deck can do feels unmatched if the game goes on too long. It plays the slow game in a format that is pretty fast, but I honestly feel like it isn't poorly positioned.
GDS: I have only recently picked this up after playing around with a friend's Jund deck and realizing how much i like being able to go aggressive or passive based on the match up. Against the 4 i named previously, the humans and mardu match ups are worse, the tron and hollow one match ups are better (maybe not hollow one). Against combo you can close out the game before it becomes an issue, especially with the hand disruption package this deck runs. Against creature based decks this deck feels really poorly positioned, they aren't common but they show up and depending on your 75 you might lack the board sweep to be able to swing the board back. I am one of the few control players in my area so I haven't played the match up to experience it. The big thing with this deck is it has a chance to just steal a win out of nowhere so you can squeak a win vs even the worst of match ups.
I don't have the reps to say which one is better overall, but I really enjoy shadow. The lines take some thought and the games don't go to time every round. Sometimes you are the aggro, sometimes you are the control, but the end goal is just beating someone to death with your 1 drops
I cut my KR for the second Abrade. At 3 maanas many times the creatures go out of range, and Abrade can destroy Aether Vial, and the games will be much more acceptable.

I actually had the opposite impression of Looting. This deck can flood or screw pretty often, so Looting can smooth that out. Plus, it's another spell to help turbo out your Anglers. I think of it as a Dark Ritual that lets you loot 2 and you can flashback.

Hi, guys. Recently i have returned in modern mostly because i want to take part in few next PPTQs. I have chosen Grixis DS as my lovely deck to play, and i have some questions about sideboard.
1) Is Kira so great right now? I have seen her in almost every DS deck.
2) What do you think about Bitterblossom singleton against Control heavy decks. It seems that modern Blue control decks rose from the grave, and you should be prepared to fight with them. Currently i am using that package of additional threats to beat control decks: Liliana, The Last Hope and two Young Pyro. But i think that Blossom can be really annoying for blue decks (and actually not only for control decks, but also for midrange decks).
I don't think we should ever be cutting Thought Scours, it's one of the best cards in the deck. Faithless Looting is seeing success in the recent lists because above all else it's Thought Scour 5-6. The card selection from Faithless Looting is ancillary to Looting's main purpose; to power out a turn 2 Angler. I strongly suggest Thought Scour as a 4-of no matter what mix of other cantrips you use. I wasn't on board with Faithless Looting at first but 2 really does seem perfect. GDS feels so so good when you lead with turn 1 discard, turn 2 Angler.
I'm on 4 Scour, 2 Serum Visions, 2 Faithless Looting. I understand the strengths of Bauble but I just don't enjoy playing it, and I think GDS' performance with Bauble vs. without Bauble is close enough that personal preference being the deciding factor is fine.
Yeah, Thought Scour should be an auto 4-of. That's the best cantrip in the deck. Maximizing your chances of getting out a turn 2 Angler felt really good to me when I tried out Friedman's list. His whole theory is cutting down on the 3-drops in the main deck so you can be streamlined to kill as fast as possible in game 1. This is kind of like the old Twin game 1 strategy. The main deck was focused on assembling the combo ASAP because there were a lot of matchups where you had to do that to win. It's always good to be proactive and put as much pressure as possible on your opponent in Modern, so I think that's the best way to go about building the main deck.

Bauble better enables turn 2 Anglers. The fact that it costs 0 mana is huge for setting up those fast openings. You can even get a pseudo-scry by looking at your top card with it and deciding if you want to crack a fetch to shuffle it away or not, and it can give your more info on your opponent's hand if you use it on them before Thoughtseize, so you know what they're going to draw.
