Oh man I just won a sweet match against UW Control! In game three, two Kolaghan's Commands that both made the opponent discard a card and returned a BBE from the graveyard were the only way it happened. I made the elusive "comeback from behind" against Control. It can be done!
Delver, I tried the MB Nihil Spellbomb in place of the 3rd Scooze, but I ended up going back to the way it was. Scooze just covers a couple of more angles (like Burn), but most importantly for me, he's one more body to turn sideways. Having threat density has seemed more important for me now more than ever.
I have to say, the fast Jund build feels right on the cusp of being not grindy enough to handle the Control MU's. But not quite! I'm only running 3x BBE, 3x Bob, and 3x LotV. Still, even though I've shaved on a few of the grind pieces, there's still enough to get the job done. It's hard building a list that handles both Aggro and Control/Midrange MU's without making too much of a concession one way or the other.
Calebd's 25x land list with only 2x BBE MB seems odd to me. It seems like a real missed opportunity to only run 2x of our best card MB, especially in a build with a landbase that should support her easily. I thought that was kind of the draw to running so many lands. I do like the Tireless Trackers in the SB though, a lot. I wish I could find some space for them in mine. I wonder what field he was expecting to play against.
Speaking of Sideboards, I'm still trying to find a slot for Golgari Charm. I've been running into so many x/1's lately, as well as super pesky enchantments that I'm just not that well equipped to destroy, namely Search for Azcanta. And speaking of handling Azcanta, I just really want to stress again that I think Damping Sphere is a mistake and that 3x Fulminator Mage is the only way to go right now. I thought about running 4x but it ended up feeling pretty clunky.
Fatal Push seems like the card I'd probably get rid of first, but I haven't felt comfortable trying it quite yet. Duress has been exceptional, which seems weird for such a modest card. But being able to throw three more targeted discard spells into the MU's where it's good feels great. I doubt Duress will be leaving my side any time soon.
Edit: Serious question, do y'all think I could pull off running 8x three-mana spells in a 24 land build? This is what I'm currently on:
I'd like to attempt to trade the 2nd Terminate I'm running for a 2nd Maelstrom Pulse in the MB. Is this too clunky?
Edit #2: Delver, I just looked again at your list you posted a couple of pages back, and you're running 8x three-mana spells. How has this worked for you? I'm very interested. Has the 2nd MB Pulse felt clunky?
I’ve played a number of matches versus mardu recently and they’ve almost always left in blood moon. It can steal a game, but it’s also just a clean, easy answer to manlands for the rest of the game.

I can see the reasoning behind leaving in BM, but thats just not what I want to approach the matchup. I think safe and steady grinding is just statistically better, as Mardu is already favoured vs Jund naturally. I personally don't want potential blowout cards which ruins my comeback potential against Jund.

As for the 3 drops, they have been fine, I think especially 2 Pulse is very good to have right now. Control has to be beaten.

I think Fulminator is a fantastic choice to have now, since its also really good against all Celestial Colonnade based control decks, which are prevalent in modern right now. The fact that it helps against our bad popular matchup of Tron is a solid reason to run Fulminator. In that sense, I am with Reid Duke here, which always had a good opinion about Fulminator.

Yeah, the same list I posted earlier just -1 Spellbomb and +1 BBE. Might change that going forward though.
Since I know some people are talking about control matchups recently, I've been fighting almost mono-control matchups as of late on cockatrice and am fresh off what I think was a pretty impressive win against grixis control. All three games went very long, and I out-aggro'd my opponent g1, got outvalued after like 25-30 minutes g2, and outvalued them g3.
I've been super impressed with tireless tracker replacing dark confidant over the past few weeks, and I think if you adjust the curve of your disruption spells slightly downward it really pays off. The end result almost feels a touch like mardu where, should your hand demand it, you get to spend the first 2-3 turns ripping apart your opponents gameplan and then follow it up with CA and beaters (but of course you can play much more aggressively if you have a goyf, flayer, tasigur).

Yeah turn-4 Tracker into fetchland is a sick play. I wish I could find a spot for two in my SB, because he eats Midrange/Control (same thing, really) decks for breakfast. He’s also a good clock when we’re racing Big Mana.
Control has been everywhere. Personally I’ve run into mostly UW on Cockatrice. Those MU’s are a ******* grindfest. They’re actually starting to feel really good for me though. I’m still probably only winning 50%-55% of the time (honestly I think it’s closer to 55%), but they never feel inherently out of reach. It really just hinges mostly on how many K-Commands and BBEs (or a timely topdecked Thoughtseize) I can find, or playing tightly and sticking a Bob or Lili (either one). Speaking of, The Last Hope is way better than I remember her being in that MU.
I’ve been wrecking Affinity lately. MB Lili-tLH and Lavaman help, as do the rest of my removal suite, but the 2x Grudge, 2x AotG, 2x Brutality, 1x Push, 1x Golgari Charm (I finally found the room), and 3x Fulminator out of the board really do the trick. As long as I can stick a threat early (which 1cmc removal makes possible), I’ve pretty much got it sewed up. Being more aggressive has helped me so much.
The whole video is probably not worth watching due to the match-ups that were played (two wins against an opponent who mulled a bunch and budget burn, two losses to bogles with MD leyline and an auto-concede to valakut). The first match though is worthwhile and showcases how hard the tracker build stomps control decks. Was hoping for a more representative league but what are you gonna do.

Someone else in these forums did something similar. I've been really impressed with Tireless Tracker against decks that aren't blitzing me.
I like Hoogland. Most well-known streamers are insightful, but he’s entertaining too.
I just don’t like what it does to the curve. I wouldn’t be inherently opposed to getting my CA from someone other than Bob, but I just don’t know how I feel about replacing 2-drops with 3-drops. 2cmc is kind of a sweet spot for Jund. It allows us our double-plays in the early turns. You’ve peaked my interest though. I’m gonna watch it. I’m interested to see this list and to see it in action. Thanks for posting.
How does everyone feel about the Burn MU? I can’t seem to lose to the deck. I’ve kept an incredibly one-sided record against them lately. All the games are close of course because it’s Burn, but I always seem to get there first. I think the very simple advice from Jadine’s article has paid off immensely for me. I keep saying it, but I really think it’s true. I’ve been playing Jund much more aggressively lately, taking a few risks, and it’s made a substantial difference. I’m doing better with Jund than I ever have.

Decklist was scrambled in the video description. I straightened it out. Those Trackers game-1 against Jeskai were stupid value. He literally drew at least 250 cards off the clues. LITERALLY.
I think the curve issue is not as bad as one might expect. Against decks that are trying to curve you out you end up just playing the opening turns like mardu might and kill/discard their stuff. Or you draw a goyf and all is right with the world.
If you look at his deck, the curve is 9 3cmc and 2 4cmc. The average jund deck is more like 8 3cmc and 3-4 4cmc? Not all that different in the end, and in the matchups where curve really matters (like v.aggro) tracker is better than bob 90% of the time. And because tracker is better than bob in the grindy matchups, you can afford to play more 1-for-1 cheap interaction because your 2-for-1s are more reliable card engines.
The main area where I miss bob is vs linear combo where life total doesn’t matter. Still, those matchups are pretty good for jund already and even though tracker is more expensive, he’s a better clock than bob so he at least has that. I need more aggro and combo practice before I can conclude about the tracker build, but it’s felt great so far.

I believe Bob is stronger vs aggro decks, Tracker needs too much mana investment in order to get CA, which subsequently means it needs more time. And I think time is the most constraining factor when playing against aggro.
Agree with Delver on that point. Spending 2 mana per clue adds up fast. Not to mention you ideally want to play tracker and then immediately follow up with a land drop so he's way way slower than Dark Confidant.
Maybe, but I’ve never felt happy about playing dark confidant against aggro decks anyways. Like against a deck that’s trying to aggro you out, paying life to draw cards you may not live to cast seems pretty medium-bad. Tracker might be worse, but I feel like it’s splitting hairs between two cards that are both medium-bad at that point.
It’s unfortunate that I don’t have the testing to substantiate these claims right now, but if I can get enough aggro practice I’ll let you know if my mind is changed or otherwise.

Comparing those two means I am not saying Bob is great vs aggro. I just think Bob is better compared to Tracker.
It depends on which aggro deck we are talking about if we want to go into more detail. Against Burn Bob is obviously incredibly bad, and also against any Burn-type of deck like 8 Whack. However, against other creature based aggro decks (or combo-aggro decks like elves or affinity) Bob can help drawing into nessecary removal in order to step ahead. I think Bob can somewhat shine here since those decks typically run low amounts of removal. Tracker just seems way to clunky and a too high mana investement to be better in my mind.
Oh man, speaking of Tracker, I just saw G/W Company (or Selesnya Value, or Valuetown, or whatever you want to call it) in action for the first time (nobody seems to play it) and it’s ridiculous. That’s one unfair fair deck. And it stabilizes like nobody’s business. Anyway, here’s a great video of it in action, piloted by Todd Stevens:
It’s also just a great video of Modern Magic being played. Worth the watch.
Tracker’s a really cool card. I do doubt that Jund is the best home for her in that great a number, but I think she could be a really great sideboard card, and possibly a contender for a three-drop slot in the MB. In fact, I’ve wanted to find a slot for her in the MB for awhile. There was a span of time where I had like a 25% win rate against one of my buddies who ran two copies of her in his Junk (Abzan) deck, and she was often a large part of me getting behind. I like that she grinds so hard against Midrange/Control (synonymous) while also providing such a good clock (or at least an additional clock) against Big Mana. Maybe one day I’ll find a spot for her. My three-drop slots are maxed out right now though with what I feel are essentials.
