What has been people's general trends on sideboarding? I know this is largely affected by what your flex spots are, but a general guide would be helpful.
Cards I couldn't do without in SB (numbers change on preference):
- Do you aggressively mulligan toward "unfair" start with a hierarch/temple and TKS? It appeared by my test that the drop 3 on turn 3 is a bit slow for the format, but i don't know if mulliganing more is the way to go
-did you like both dismember in the main? I run 1 explosive main in this spot and it appeared to be quite good!
-I play 2 eldrazi skyspawner instead of 1 reshaper and the second dismember and it was often relevant! Accelerating, double blocker, blood moon fighter, etc. Did you try it before putting it aside? Or did you just go with reshaper without questioning it?
-now sideboard questions. I have troubles leaving my rest in peace for grafdigger cages. Cages can be found on stirrings, but RIP come in against lots of deck (jund/abzan, delver, snapcaster.deck, storm). So what's the reason that pushed you toward cages only? Do you think a mix is doable or do i have to chose and dedicate all 3 spots to the same card?
-Finally, the mirror. Don't you miss world breaker? You have a big 0 ways to deal with worship. do the blessed alliances come in? I tried them and the opponents were saccing lots of spawns in the end.
Here are my thoughts:
- I always try to mull to either a mana dork, Temple, or an Ancient Stirrings to find a Temple in my opening hand. That's 12 cards you are looking for in your opener, which are pretty good odds. You can easily win on 5 or 6 cards with this deck, so mull aggressively, yes. The exception comes when you are playing against BGx decks and side out your mana dorks.
- I like one dismember main. I think the extra removal spell is worth it, but you cant take 8 damage in this format to remove creatures. Every other deck in the format is aggressive, i think 2 Dismembers is too much.
- I also run 2 SkySpawners and i love then. A Spawner with a Hierarch out is a reasonable clock during board stalls. Some people dont use them because of the mana. There are definitely awkward times where you need to fetch and play a Hierarch on turn one, do you get a Temple Garden or a Breeding Pool if you dont have a Diplacer or Spawner in hand? I've definitely chose wrong before and drew into the opposite of what i needed. But, i think the risk is worth it, Spawner is great, i almost want to go up to 3 and down to 2 Reshapers...
- I do a 2/2 split on Cage/RiP. I'm with you that RiP is useful in other matchups, like my local meta has a few Living End players. I've lost to Dredge through Cage before, they can remove it pretty easily, but they have no enchantment removal. You just need to get lucky that you draw it, but thats like any other deck.
- Opposing Worships are just game, i suppose. You just hope you dont see the mirror and they dont draw their one of Worhip. You cant have answers to everything in your board with such a wide meta. You pick and choose your battles. If you want a more well rounded sideboard, go for it, but then you are just less likely to draw the cards you need when you need them against basically all matchups.
2-1 vs RG Tron
2-0 vs Jeskai Nihiri
2-0 vs Jund
2-0 vs GW Hatebears
Video of it can be found here. The first game of Jeskai Nihiri starts at the link, and then the round vs Jund starts at 1:26:00. There were four 3-0 people so I wasn't on camera for the last round but another Bant Eldrazi player was so you can watch 3 rounds of the deck.
Top 3 decks that i've found very difficult to beat:
1) Merfolk
2) Affinity
3) Elves
Honorable mention: Ad Nauseam
You have to play at least 3x Stony Silence and I also run 2x EE and 2x Worship - with this package I find it about 50/50. Merfolk and Elves are really bad - play more explosives is all I can say (and/or hope merfolk doesnt get islandwalk going, do not fetch for islands if you can help it)..
As far as Ratchet bomb goes, it is slower then EE but still ok if EE is out of range for price. As far a tamiyo, I tested with her and liked her alot. Never had any issue as far as her cc. I only ran 1 so I did not see her in much but I am keeping her in for another few matches.

I've seem Thragtusk in some sideboards but it is easily splashable and has great synergy with Eldrazi Displacer so why not maindeck 1x over one of the 6-drops ?
About Swagtusk, I love the card, I really do. It's just Drowner can shut the door on so many decks while Swagtusk is just a value card that gives life gain. In the right removal heavy or burn heavy meta he could be a good MD 1-of. He isn't an Eldrazi, so you can't ramp him out in most cases casting him T4 or T5.

I went 6-3 at GP guangzhou with a list almost the same as the SCG one but with a lavinia of the tenth and a RIP in SB. My record is a bit of a farce but if you're interested you can keep reading.
Here's my report:
Round 1: I was 40 minutes late to the venue, so I was surprised they even let me play. I got an auto game loss for tardiness and g2 I find myself playing lantern control and a t3 bridge, 0-1
Round 2: I play UR pyromancer's ascension with thing the ice. Game one he plays multiple ToiT and gets them flipped. Couldn't do much. Game 2 I SB in natural state and EE. I blow up his first ascension and he plays a second. when he's at 4 life or so he combos off, 0-2
Round 3: I play UG infect, his G1 is kind of slow and I get spellskite out, so I take it. G2 we both have spellskites out so I just keep redirecting distortion strike to make him pay life. I play lavinia of the tenth (displacer was out too), which stopped spellskite and hierarch from blocking/using abilities. He did have inkmoths but they were way too slow and my eldrazi were basically unblockable, 1-2
Round 4: I play against elves. G1 he plays a nettle setinel? t1, t2 he has about 5 1/1 elves (heritage druid, llanowar), t3 he topdecks ezuri and i get steamrolled. G2 I side in cage and explosives, i mulligan to 2 forest, temple, TKS, cage and PTE. I play cage T1, TKS T3 and take an elf (i see he has chord and company in hand as well), but unfortunately i get mana devastate and he flips westvale abbey for ormendahl, profane prince and I'm sitting with two PTE in hand and no white mana sources, i top deck explosives thinking it matters and it doesn't 1-3
Round 5: My opponent didn't show up, 2-3
Round 6: Bant Eldrazi mirror. Win game 1, look stupid in G2 with enchantment removal and worship in hand and nothing else. G3 is a long one and there's board stalls. I misplay by attacking agressively with a topdeck'd reality smasher and my opponent doesn't understand how eldrazi displacer works, thinking that his drowner of hope dies when he blocks my exalted reality smasher, but unfortunately it means his takes 6 trample damage. i leave myself in a spot where he can attack me with matter reshaper and 2 exalted triggers for lethal but he doesnt see it, next turn i kill him with a bunch of mana, drowner of hope/displacer. 3-3
Round 7: Ad Nauseum. I almost win game 1 by ravaging his hand with TKS, but phyrexian unlife does a lot of work in slowing the game down and he top decked ad nauseum. Game 2, he played slaughter pact, and forgot to pay in the upkeep and drew the card, which is a game loss. Game 3 I am able to put the pressure on and he is out of luck. 4-3
Round 8: RG tron. His version was a really bad matchup against my deck. Played karn, ulamog, and a random platinum angel? Anyhow, game one he wins. Game 2 he exiles my hierarchs with ulamog when I have 3 lands, but I just PTE ulamog and keep the pressure on. Game 3 was a long one that went to turns, but I made the dude so mad. Every threat he played I had PTE for, and when he played karn he would just die the next turn. I thought knot'd a threat, he played oblivion stone (he had another one in hand), cracked it to kill TKS, i topdeck another TKS and take his other oblivion stone, and he gets close to milling. In turns I topdeck a land to play smasher when he is at 10 life on T2, and kill him T4. 5-3
Round 9: UWR Nahiri: Lose game 1. I felt really bad because I took a verdict instead of an emrakul with TKS but the emrakul later killed me. Game 2 i got cage and rest in peace in the early turns and his deck just couldn't do anything, and it was satisfying to watch. G3 I started with like..2 cages and a ROP, but didn't want to walk into explosives or wear/tear so I played them slowly while attacking. It went to turns and the dude conceded, but I had the feeling I was gonna win. 6-3
There's my tale of horrible coincidences and misplays. I made day two, but I had to leave early. I would say spellskite is a monster and ruins so many decks for such little effort. Worship usually under-performed in every game so I'm a little iffy on it. Displacer did a lot of work as usual. I think my 1x elder deep fiend needs to go, and it never really did anything.
Played Bant Eldrazi at GP Indy this weekend; going 9-6 thorugh both days. I will post a quick report below my deck list which can be found in the spoiler.
Rd 2 Jund 0-2 lose 2 very close games but Jund did it's Jundy thing quite well.
Overall 1-1
Rd 3 Elves 2-0 Game 1 a quick curve of displacer, Smasher and Smasher wins it. Game 2 EE for 1 on t4 clears out 4 of 5 elves and Smasher next turn finishes off the little green men.
Overall 2-1
Rd 4 Death's Shadow 2-1 Game 1 the maid deck EE just blew out my opponent. Game 2 lost to Become Immense & Temur Battlerage. Game 3 An early Rest in Peace kept him off of his delve creatures/spells and used Eldrazi Displacer to blink out his creatures and clear the way for my attackers.
Overall 3-1
Rd 5 Infect 0-2 quickly losing on t3 game 1 and t4 game 2. This feels like a very unfavorable matchup.
Overall 3-2
Rd 6 Death's Shadow 2-0 G1 EE cleans up his board of Swiftspear, Nactl and Death's Shadow on t4. G2 Path and Blessed Alliance keeps the way clear for my attackers.
Overall 4-2
Rd 7 UR Bedlam Delver 2-1 g1 win on due to running TKS and Smasher top decks g2- Young Pyro buried me under a ton of elemental tokens. g3 Opponent gets an early flipped delver and then doesn't draw much gas as proceed to drop several Rehapers and a Smasher
Overall 5-2
Rd 8 Death's Shadow 2-0 g1 Once again the MB EE blows out by clearing out 2 Death's Shadows and a Swiftspear. g2 a turn 3 Worship gets there after my opponent concedes around turn 10 with me at 1 life and I have more creatures then they have removal spells.
Overall 6-2
Rd 9 RG Tron 0-2 both games I have good starts but cannot finish them off before they start exiling with Karn, Worldbreaker and Ulamog. I would like to know if anyone has had better results in this match up because I am now 2-5 in this matchup
Overall 6-3
Rd 10 Jund 2-1 G1 started out t2 TKS and t3 Smasher. g2 way too much removal and hand disruption keeps me reeling g3 a close back and forth affair with Smasher followed by Drowner of Hope to finish it out.
Overall 7-3
Rd11 Ad Nauseum 0-2 I think is probably one of the most unfavorable match ups and fortunately in my area it is not played much at all.
overall 7-4
rd 12 Merfolk 0-2 Another bad matchup that curves out quickly both games
Overall 7-5
Rd 13 Jund 2-1 G1 and 3 quick starts that my opponent doesn't answer quickly g2 loss due to them having multiple thoughtseize and removal spells
Overall 8-5
Rd 14 Bant Eldrazi 1-2 All 3 games went to whoever played the most Eldrazi Temples and that seems to be the key in this matchup.
Overall 8-6
Rd 15 Burn 2-1 g1 have a really good curve of t2 TKS into Smasher puts it away quickly. g2 so much burn my eyes still hurt. g3 opponent gets out to a quick start but back to back TKS's empty their hand and I am able to close it out before he draws any more burn spells.
Overall 9-6
I have to say this deck played really well and I believe my performance with it will improve with experience. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a new deck to play.
Going forward I believe I will try removing the 2 Dismember for 2 Spellskite. There were several times I drew those Dismember and would have much rather had almost anything else.
I went through all the Bant Eldrazi lists (~18 lists) from the three GP top 64 lists - there were exactly ZERO copies of EDF! In my own experience it has been win more generally - although it has won a couple of games were I would have lost otherwise due to being able to tap down their lands and time walk them (Combo, Tron). All in all this card is being cut from my list - the GP evidence has pushed me over the edge..
Most likely going up to 3x EE - 1 MD..
The other thing I noticed was that land hate is likely more important then GY hate?! Should we be running an extra GQ, Spreading Sea's or something similar for Valakut, Tron and the mirror?
I was asking myself, against which decks Chalice of the Void is great?. I can't imagine a deck where Chalice is great and Path and Stirrings and Hierarch not.
Maybe i'm missing something. Anyways, he made Top 8 so the tech must have been useful. Time to try those Chalices.

Be prepared for having a lot of cards stick in your hand (Stirrings, Path, all your dorks, stubborn denial, nature's claim) - if you want to blow up 1 drops - use EE, less bad feelings and non-bo's..
Ive been playing ghostly prison as a utility sb card that can hit dredge and other go wide decks - its never been all that amazing to be honest. Worship has also underperformed - although it got me a win against Merfolk and Burn - I think two copies might be overkill?
Well i think chalice was in his sb not because he didnt like goblin guide or nacatl but because the best aggro combo decks play tons of 1 drop spells like gitaxian probe , muta growth, bolt, might of old krosa.
I agree that if you want to blow creatures Explosives is better.
With chalice out on turn 2 i dont think you can lose to infect, ds aggro or burn, considering a médium hand
You can easily lose to burn with a chalice in play (tons of two drops and they will side in D Rev against us anyway to hit Skite and explosives). Further to this - burn will often get 1 drops away before chalice comes down. Then you sit with paths and denials etc in your hand that you cannot cast - ugh. Timely reinforcements and blessed alliance are far better sb cards in this match-up..
I agree that shadow is harder to lose and infect should be also gg. However, EE does a fine job against Sui Zoo - so its really only critical for the infect matchup and random Ad Nauseum decks - imo - not sure what else Eldrazi really needs it for?
The other problem is that chalice can be complete garbage if it doesn't come down early enough and so you need to take up four slots for it to be effective (granted that Stirrings makes it much better). I'm just not sure it does enough really in any deck in modern - especially one with a decent amount of 1 drops like Bant Eldrazi. Maybe this will be proven to be incorrect and if infect is everywhere in a given meta (which it might just well be) - then I could back it..
Cards I couldn't do without in SB (numbers change on preference):

I'm just not sure it does enough really in any deck in modern - especially one with a decent amount of 1 drops like Bant Eldrazi. Maybe this will be proven to be incorrect and if infect is everywhere in a given meta (which it might just well be) - then I could back it..
