Hey guys any tips for playing UR Gifts Storm? I have a positive win rate but it's still frustrating losing to that pile of garbage.
I side in all counters and all GY hate and prioritize TKS'ing Past in Flames, Gifts. Any tips appreciated
grave hate for PIF (most important)
explosives/ratchet bomb for empty the warrens
worship to slow them down (though they may be able to tutor into echoing truth, so if it wont fit then dont side it in)
Finally found the bomb I want against Abzan - Batterskull. Abzan has an extremely hard time answering this card because it lacks Kolaghan's command. As long as you hold the mana up, the best out they have to it are Maelstrom Pulse into Lili +1 or thoughtseize, which is a pretty rare scenario. When resolved, it stabilizes extremely well and gives you inevitability. It's been better than Thragtusk in my testing.
My only problem with it, again, is that it's too narrow. I wouldn't bring it in against Grixis or Jund because of Kolaghan's command (and counterspells). I really want it in my board, however, to boost our Abzan matchup (which is realistically closer to 50/50 or worse). Some other uses for it include against elves and merfolk (after the initial stabilization with worship) to up our clock against them before they can find the outs to worship. A bird or skyspawner with a batterskull is the best clock possible given that we can't punch through the ground. Similarly, it's a viable option in GWx matchups where they have the possibility to outscale us with gavony township, and stall us on the ground. Finally, it's castable under a blood moon and therefore good against midrange moon decks like skred or ponza.
I've been running E-Wit as a one of mainboard and really like her especially if I'm running Reshapers. I've been trying out a list with a 3-2-1 split between Skyspawner, Reshaper and Eternal Witness and honestly prefer having her in the main deck. It may not be optimal but it's been pretty good so far and I like that setup more than just four Skyspawners.

thanks for the input. not sure to go with the e witness or phyrexian metamorph right now. i've been running elder deep fiend but i keep boarding it out. so time for a change..
So, is the Vizier of the Menagerie the card draw engine this deck is missing? It doesn't die to bolt, it doesn't reveal the card to your opponent, it fixes the mana even for colorless, it synergizes with stirrings (stirrings lets you filter your top 5 cards in case what you see isn't what you need).
It is card advantage when you have creatures on top, but it is no scrying.
Tried running the E Witness just now. Had a turn where i had to draw a path or RS to win. Drew an E Wit. Spoilt for choice w the cards i had in the gy. Really impressed me. Will try more reps b4 making a decision about it.
I decided to add a 6th dork and cut my 24th land to increase consistency. After a lot of testing I have determined that birds and nobles are great even against jund and especially abzan, because they shift our curve AND shield our threats from lili edicts. Double dork hands are also really great because generally accelerating to 5 mana on turn 3 is more important than our turn 2 play. Dorks are also marginally better top decks than lands past 5-6 lands; they are really only bad topdecks while trying to curve out. Extra dorks also gives us backup in case our first one gets bolted. Because of the nonbo with EE I am cutting down to 2 and looking for a replacement, maybe thragtusk or ewit.
Hey all, took first tonight at the LGS modern event. 3-1 (loss was due to me being late, work is work). Highlight of the night:
Beating Ad Nasuem 2-1. So it is possible Hard but possible. Lessons learned: Stick TKS and Displacer= flicker, exile their stuff, rinse repeat. Hold up countermagic and don't fear the Phyrexian Unlife. Stubborn Denial, Disdainful Stroke and Stony Silence did their thing, and it was a relief drawing them in games 2 and 3.
I still think that match up rough G1, but after SB we actually get much better. I have a better understanding of the match up now so it's not that scary anymore.
With GP Vegas coming, I'll be playing this deck as much as possible.

I've been preparing for Grand Prix Kobe. I went day 2 at Grand Prix Guangzhou last year with a pretty stock list and bought in on modo. (I'll post my list later)
I like 1x Lavinia of the Tenth in the sb. Pro red is never too irrelevant as decks going RBx really just rely on terminate/push/kolaghan for removal and she ignores all of those. Against several non-interactive decks like Affinity she just locks them down for a while, and if you have displacer/worship in a couple of these matches you basically lock them out. She is a champ at disabling lots of midrange planeswalkers, too.
I have thought about something. Have any of you tried running 2-4 Tarmogoyfs in the spot of Eldrazi Skyspawner? I know it sounds stupid, but I have been seeing Todd Stevens value them highly in his GW goodstuff. A deck that can only put lands, creatures, and instants in the graveyard. They always seem to be 5/6 anyway since opponents tend to fill up the rest. We even got Artifact and Sorcery in the deck as well (although not consistently). I know it doesn't synergize very well, but I'm curious if anyone actually has data to write them off?
Skyspwaner really helps w flyers. Mainly affinity n infect. Matter Reshaper might be a better choice. Though, i really like reshaper.
Unlike pithing needle its target can be changed thanks to displacer. Also unlike needle it can hit mana sources which is highly relevant. Also, its less of a dead card than needle because at least it can swing.
Matchups to bring it in:
Ad nauseam - mana rocks, lightning storm
Tron - Karn
Elves - Any mana dork, Ezuri
Company decks - Vicera Seer, Birds of paradise, Knight of the reliquary, Noble hierarch
Merfolk - Aether vial
Mirror - Elspeth, opposing mana dorks (on the play)
Affinity
Eldrazi Tron
Burn (probably better than Drowner which is usually too slow; at least it can trade with a GG)
Titanshift - Chandra, Steve (questionable)
Notably, these are all pretty bad matchups for us.
Yes, I did read your post. Goyf HAS been tested before thoroughly, at the deck's inception, and it did not make the cut.
You are right, burn and tron aren't bad matchups per se. But they are certainly not matchups I'm happy to face because they often come down to coin flips or deterministic hands. So anything to improve those matchups helps.
I played with revoker at tonight's FNM and I am impressed. It was highly relevant against elves, naming a resolved Archdruid. In a meta with a high amount of elves (like my LGS has been recently), Revoker seems reasonable.
Of note, I've been seeing a LOT of living end, and lost to it today. I think people are eager to play the deck with all of the new cyclers. I'll be playing with 1-2 chalices for the next few weeks.
Congrats on the success your having. I'm planning on running Bant Eldrazi at GP Vegas, your Phyexian Metamorph tech is something I've been wanting to test out this week at my LGS.
2 questions (Big ones actually)
1) How relevant is it to have Misty Rainforest over the 4 Windswept Heath? How is this mana base operating vs the "stock" one.
2) Why no Rest in Peace ?
Thanks for the input.
