Hey guys, so I’ve been playing this deck for a long while now, and As I’m sure you all know by now, Lingering Souls sucks. Too many TITI’s and red chickens flying about makes it a one turn 3 mana blocker.
So I was thinking of what to put in the three mana slot, and here’s what I came up with.
“You shouldn’t play Scourge without playing 4 Serum Powders as well! Oh! The horror! The Horrrrror!
Wait a minute.
Eldrazi Horror. Scourge is a Horror. That means just one thing...Fxxk off TITI!
Also, there are plenty of synergies with the rest of the deck.
If you need some card advantage, get the Scourge sent to the graveyard and then Surgical it.
If you’re mana starved, wait for blocks, then path it.
Having Scourge and Relic out at the same time is basically a blocker a turn. The card advantage over time is fantastic. You just keep playing it. And playing it. And playing it. Until you find the crucial removal or smasher, or whatever.
Speaking of removal, the Ratchet Bomb is coming straight out as soon as Blast Zone, that EE on a land comes out in WotS. It will replace the Vault of the Archangel. I can’t wait. Putting in a Cast Down or a Dismember. Not sure yet.
Hey, I like your list a lot. Went 4-0 at my LGS with this one, fairly similar with a few minor changes. The sideboard was a mishmash of cards I threw together very quickly, I'm going to refine it later.
Hi there, nice to see that the deck is still popular, I also think it should be quite potent in the current graveyard-heavy meta. I am also interested in the deck and think about playing it.
Can you give a little more insight about the matchups you were facing?
This was about the list I had in mind. Just a few issues/ Questions that came to my mind, which I do not have an answer to:
- Regarding manabase: Is Marsh Flats good for enabling Revolt, or Maybe Prismatic Vista plus an extra Wastes to fetch for? And how many Manlands, are ideal, and should it be Shambling Vent or Mutavault (Maybe plus Urborg)? Or in General, how many colorless Sources does the deck Need?
- How good is Eldrazi Displacer in the deck? Without the Flickerwisp interactions, I am not sure if Blight Herder or Endbringer aren't the better alternative for the lategame.
- I was thinking about Dryad Militant instead or in addition to Relic, to apply some early pressure. She also does some nice work regarding Exiling. Not sure though if Relic isn't the better Card regarding our more Midrange-y strategy.
Again, I am aware that asking Questions is easier than working on answers, but Maybe These thoughts are already tested by somebody. Just wanted to get an idea what may be interesting additions to the archetype.
You could add Prismatic vista and/or Marsh Flats as an enabler for Fatal push doesn't hurt the manabase that much. I would cut it for Fetid Heath or so. But you have ghost quarters and silent clearings so you can get short on mana with saccing lands.
Displacer is great! Does so many things and yes sometimes Displacer can be slow. I'm not a fan of Blight herder and Endbringer. I think it's to slow.
On turn one i rather play Relic, Inquisition, thoughtseize or keep mana up for removal then playing Dryad Militant.
Lingering souls is not good at the moment. To many phoenix decks flying around.
I play primarily against UW/x control, Hogaak/Dredge and variations on R/x burn. There are two Phoenix decks and a Mardu list as well. I've gone 4-0 in events the past three nights, so I've been very happy with the deck. It feels very strong right now.
Also: I think Eternal Scourge is nuts. Absolutely nuts. Seems like a must play in a meta where you play against removal heavy decks.
I've been having a lot of fun with Kaya Usurper. I've also been testing Sorin Vengeful Bloodlord but I'm not sure if Solemn Visitor is better, however I do like having the ability to bring back smaller creatures as well as giving the big ones lifelink.
Going to take this for a spin again tonight at Monday Modern event. I haven't played the deck since it played lingering souls. The list i'm going to take is linked below. I'm thinking of cutting down on a Kaya, some displacers and some smashers in order to fit in eternal scourge because that sounds like a good addition. I've cut the shambling vents becasue i'm not sold on having tapped lands, but how neccessary are they? to people find that they win you matches?
I've been on one Vent and it hasn't negatively impacted me, there are a few burn players where I am so the lifegain helps every once in a while. Mutavault is by far the more important man-land, they're colorless, come in untapped and have helped me close out a large number of games.

- How About Lingering Souls in the maindeck or Sideboard?
Again, I am aware that asking Questions is easier than working on answers, but Maybe These thoughts are already tested by somebody. Just wanted to get an idea what may be interesting additions to the archetype.
