I tested Liliana. She doesn't work in this deck IMO. Usually you don't want to +1 her because you want to actually play your spells for value and we can't work well from top deck mode (yay, I top decked a Mentor!). We don't really need her -2 either because we pack so much removal, it's usually better to play a removal spell (or even multiple spells) to clear out the blockers which then triggers prowess for a total beatdown. This deck is weak to opponents going wide and Liliana is also weak against decks going wide.
I also tested Narset. I think she's good but I think you want to run a few more powerful spells to get max value from rebound (rebounding Esper Charm is pretty sweet for example) and probably serum visions to manipulate your top.
For me the choice is either counterspells or Myth Realized. Depends on the meta, if it is very fast Myth takes too long to get going. If it is midrangey/control-ish myth is pretty good. I don't really agree myth is bad per se vs abrupt decay decks. An abrupt decay on myth is one less for a mentor.
thought id just post my list here for some feedback
I took inspiration from the recent success of the BUG midrange/control deck that has been doing well, but because I dont want to get a playset of Gofys, decided to replace the green with white. Souls / Tarpits / Tasigur are the finishers, with white giving Path, and Esper Charm.
Ashiok is so fun to play with and amazing, even if I dont hit a creature, milling 6 cards is just great. Getting rid of threats, lands, always have had good value from him
The 1 of Narset is just for testing, it looks like great value with cards like Esper Charm, Path, Cryptic, and souls (the dream) but at cmc4 im thinking its too slow for modern. This will probably become the 3rd Ashiok.
2 Cliques help with some beatdowns and further disruption. I was thinking of going with Geist, but have preferred to stay at instant speed
Played against a variety of decks and done pretty well, Esper Charm is a great card to get further gas and as mentioned Ashiok is just fun to play with.
Ive really enjoyed playing this deck, as you can hold the board with early disruption/counters, and then try and take over with souls and tarpits
You know what's a delight? When your opponent casts Congregation at Dawn to set up their little Anafenza/Finks/Viscera Seer combo, you Thought Scour THEM!
Also, I think Congregation is glitched on MTGO. Whenever my opponent has cast it, the revealed cards show up as 3 of the same creature when I know for a fact that's not what was searched for.
Personally I think Gideon Jura is an underplayed card in modern. That being said he's probably meta dependant. I really feel like Blood Baron of vizkopa is one of the best spells to play at 5 mana. I'm thinking of converting my gifts deck to esper midrange, maybe still packing gifts in the board.
I also really like Zealous Persecution in this format. It has many applications outside of tokens. In a format littered with 4/5s it can sway combat in your favor. And actually a Gifts package in a tokens shell could work, just pulling Norn out of nowhere to swing for lethal.
I'll have to test out Monastery Mentor. Doesn't seem as powerful as Geist but I have never tried Mentor in its place.
I used your list as a model and built this deck with four Serum Visions instead of Anticipate, 1 additional Murderous Cut instead of the Slaughter Pact, and six discard spells instead of the Narset (3 Inquisition/Thoughtseize split).
I played a few games with it and I really like how this deck performs. It did quite well against Tarmo Twin and could stabilize easily against Zoo with Tasigur and endless tokens. I need to try it against other decks like Abzan, Affinity, and Burn, but the deck's a blast to play. Esper Stoneblade was my first real Legacy deck and this deck is the most exciting deck I've ever played in Modern. I'm a huge fan.
I also agree that the permission spells are iffy. Mana Leak was awful all day and Spell Snare managed to tag a turn two Tarmogoyf but got nothing else. I really want to replace them with something but I'm not sure what. I was thinking of a one-of Utter End as an inferior Vindicate substitute but 4cc might be too much. Maybe more discard? You alluded to replacing them with Myth Realized but I feel like those slots still need to be interactive spells.
23 land seems correct for this list. I found myself wanting more mana than I had at times, but I can't imagine playing more land in this type of deck.

I'm currently working on a Esper Delver list, since I love Mentor, Delver and Dark Confidant (greatness, at any cost ). I post this here, because I saw the Delver list in the opening post (otherwise I would have opened a new thread for this). I'm missing a few cards, so I couldn't test this exact list, but so far I really really like Mentor (played him in the "traditional" Esper Midrange list first, with Delve spells and Souls).
The gameplan is simple, early pressure with Delver and try to protect him (Discard and counters) or go into the Midrange mode with Mentor and spam several tokens out. Dark Confidant is here to provide more business, the 7 Cantripps (Serum Visions and Anticipate) should get whatever is needed and power up Mentor. I'm still not sure if I should run Probes or stuff like that, since they are so good with Mentor. The problem is, that I can't or to be more exact I don't want to run Delve spells with Dark Confidant (although I did this already, didn't end that good).
I took the counter suit from my 4c Delver deck, where I really liked it. I have to test how much Deprive influences Mentor. The 1 of in Darkblast and Disfigure are because of the heavy aggro meta here (lots of Infect, Affinity and Burn) and especially the first one is great against 2 of these decks. I wanted another catch-all spell against Junk, that's why 2 Dismember. The 19 lands are again from the 4c Delver deck, where they were more than enough. I also play only 19 lands in the Jeskai Delver deck (with Geist and Pyro, which are feeling like a Mentor).
Any input would be awesome!

either funpolice (Delver, Deathcloud, UW Control) or the fun decks (especially those ft. Griselbrand)
I think Tasigur probably outshines Confidant in this deck, mostly because he's 4/5 for roughly the same mana cost. His CA takes an investment to get going but it also fuels Snapcaster Mage.
And considering you don't have mana white cards, and you probably won't be casting PTE on turn one, you could probably replace Seachrome Coast with something else. If even more Darkslick Shores
The one copy of Obzedat is only there because im missing my last mentor and me and my friend thought it could be fun to try it.
After the first night i felt that permission was well placed but after today i felt that the main deck type of permission,Spell Snare and Mana Leak were pretty garbage a lot of the time. I also made the mistake of trying to do too much controlling and not enough going aggressive. I would up my land count to 23 adding probablly another plains and going for 3 Myth Realized to become more agressive pre board and boarding in permission if needed.
I used your list as a model and built this deck with four Serum Visions instead of Anticipate, 1 additional Murderous Cut instead of the Slaughter Pact, and six discard spells instead of the Narset (3 Inquisition/Thoughtseize split).

Glad that you like it. Esper is my favorite shard so of course Im happy to play an Esper deck. It's definitely one of my favorite decks too along with BG/x of course.
I will try out a few tweaks that you mentioned like replacing the Anticipates with Serum Visions but I still want to test them a bit more.
Now on what to replace the permission spells with I don't know about adding even more discard. My list has five with another one in the board, you play 6 in the main. I think that really is already at the upper end on what you can play. Discard is powerful but it's also incredible weak later in the game. Also we have Snapcaster Mage to even flash them back if we need to. Something that Abzan can't do.
Maybe a few additional removal spells instead? Since Path to Exile is already a playset that leaves us with the black removal. And the best of them are probably Dismember, Go for the Throat and Victim of Night.
I also actually upped the land count. The original list from Japan played only 22 but I didn't feel comfortable with that. We are definitely not a Delver deck that can operate on only 2 lands or something like that.
Especially since Creeping Tar Pit and Monastery Mentor require quite a few lands in play if you want to do anything else in a turn besides just playing/activating them.
If I want to play Tasigur, I go Grixis Delver since this deck can utilize Tasigur and co the most. Since I don't want to play crappy spells like Thought Scour in a Delver deck, I went to Esper (and because I wanted to play Mentor and Confi). I know how good Tasigur is (I'm playing Grixis Delver from time to time), but I just don't want to play the bad set-up spells anymore.
Telling Time is absolute garbage in a Delver deck or let's say it this way, it is garbage overall (I tested it enough in various decks to be able to say this). The nice thing about Anticipate is, it is more efficient for digging for something.
I like the Scars lands, but you are probably right, that 1 Coast should be a Darkslick.

Anyone tried Monastery Siege with this deck yet? Seems like a decent option since we can chuck many cards in the gy and still profit, or it can protect our big threats.
Maybe Raven's Crime could be good for those grindy games. Then you can chuck a topdecked land for the crime to get some monks/prowess triggers.
The more I test Myth Realized the more I am convinved he has a maindek place in this deck. For a lot of decks he is really hard to stop when combined with our discard.

Yeah , I have 2 sieges in by board and it's been pretty good whenever I board it in. I originally wanted something for burn but that could be used in another matchups , as there is not that much burn in my meta to need the usual 4 timely reinforcements.
I usually board it in against control and abzan , the khans mode is awesome in the grindy games , and the dragons mode even won me a game against jund when my opponent was stuck in 2 lands and couldn't kill my mentor. I'm also running 3 myth realized , so I can usually present enough threats my opponents won't have enough removal or enchantment destruction to handle them all and I manage to keep some around.
Be wary of the round clock , though , the draw and discard is very time consuming and tricky to resolve.
(And bonus points for looking awesome in foil)
I like the idea of Monastery Siege in there. The biggest problem I've been having with this deck is hand size/card selection. What I mean is that the cards that cantrip don't do much to affect the board state. Thought Scour is great and sets you up for early tasigur/cuts, and serum visions smooths your later draws, but the removal doesn't replace itself. This has been a problem for me when there is no mentor on the board, and I start to flood out, or not hitting things you need to hit. I had a very frustrating game loss this weekend where lingering souls would have helped a lot. After the game I dug into my library and saw 3 copies all together about 2/3s of the way down. Granted that's all variance and such, but I think a loot effect every turn would really help in smoothing out everything. I have also gone with 2 esper charms main as some instant speed card draw, and that has really helped as well.

I'm thinking of adding Peer Through Depths or anticipate as a 2-of. Digs pretty deep and pulls out a relevant answer. There have been times where I want to find a threat, where anticipate would work better, but I find myself wanting spells more often and peer would get deeper, so I'm leaning that way.

You mind posting your list? I tried 2 MR this weekend at states. The only match where they were really relevant was against Naya Zoo. It didn't do any damage, but they were forced to chump it with their only creature, effectively keeping the board clear for me. The problem I've been having with them is what to cut for them.

I heavily recommend Anticipate instead. If you run 22 lands, Anticipate's significantly better ability to get you out of mana screw is more relevant. Anticipate is also significantly better at finding threats (and non-instant, non-sorcery sideboard cards such as Stony Silence).
Maybe my opinion is a bit tainted by the fact I run 4 Myth Realized in my version and the time in testing when Twin desperately tried to combo off one turn before I could strike back for lethal, I had no removal and only lands and Anticipate in hand, I Anticipated in response, saw a land, a Snapcaster Mage, and a Monastery Mentor smiling back at me, picked Tiago, and booted Exarch. Maybe Peer Through Depths might have saved me there...maybe not, as I had around 3 removal spells in the yard at the time.
