I don't own any Blackcleave Cliffs, and I need to replace them with something else. Using this list as starting point, what do you think is the best way to substitute them?
1 extra blood crypt, another swamp and maybe 2 more fetches (mesa or any black fetch). You really need to maximise the chances of having both red and black untapped on the first turn to play looting/ discard/ bolt/ push. The full fetch shock mana base works but you loose more life, which makes burn and aggro harder to win.
@Pe7er89 I do not think we should be racing against control. You need to attack their hand aggressively with discard and hold back your threats until you can deploy multiples in the same turn. If you deploy your threats early they will just get countered or picked off 1 by 1.
About the Tron Matchup.
I was thinking for sideboard cards. I included Rabblemasters, but i think they are too slow. They also fight with turn 3 blood moon.
We have a 4 drop to play after moon, Hazoret, but Rabblemasters turn 4 doesn't seem very powerful.
Maybe we need a 1-2 drop to play aggressive. The only thing coming to mind is Swiftspear.
I don't know if it's worth it, and if it's good enough in other matchups too.
The only matchup we are most likely to face where we need to race is UWx Control. With a minor presence of Ponza and Valakut.
I'm really debating saving slots for Tron because i feel the Meta will shift from heavy aggro to UWx control a bit, with Tron being present in response.

I think that in this matchup Mardu is the beatdown. I don't think Mardu can win the long game here, but i haven't played this matchup that much.
Mardu can grind harder than control in my experience. Unless you are behind and the opposing list plays multiple PWs and depending on the amount of Sphinx's Revelation present, the matchup is more or less favourable. Taking a typical Jeskai list into acount though, Mardu is imo favoured and can grind more.
BM is also really good here, which prevents them from casting any Verdicts. That way you don't automatically have to fear blowouts at some point, and can put them on the backfoot through multiple tokens quickly.
Played against GBx and brought the bridges in just to see how they felt, they took the place of fatal push and other removal.
Went 2 - 1 (lost first match before sideboard from terrible draw/mulligans)
The deck definitely felt different playing with bridge, much closer to a prison rather than mid-range deck, slamming down moon and bridge early and using targeted discard to prevent my opponent from removing them. Then just passing time till bedlam revelers draw me into lingering souls.
Overall it seems cute, and certainly left my opponent pretty salty.

So is the plains pretty stock nowadays? I personally hated it, as I never wanted to see it in an opener or be stuck without a second red source, but it seems every list is running it. Is it only for the Ensnaring Bridge post-board plan or?
Lost 0-2 agaisnt a jeskai deck today. Granted, he did hedge hard against the local meta with celestial purges, secure wastes, elspeth, and 4 mainboard electrolyzes. I wasn't sure how to handle. Just keep him off azcanta and hope he'll eventually run out of answers?
Kambal and Rabblemaster all have their role. They are both very useful against certains decks.
Now that we see a spike of UW control what do you think we could have against that hard MU? Lili of the veil? Chandra torch? Faster clock with both Kambal and rabblemaster? Or something else?
Just watched Reid on coverage, against the Humans deck he kept a hand with LotV, BM, Bolt, CB, YP and Swamp on the draw after mulliganing. I think this hand is a clear mull and ultimately a huge mistake to keep. We need red, we can't keep one landers without looting unless you are at 5 cards and have a one mana spell to cast. I think that keep in insanely greedy.
Yep, thats the little things that matter. I think if you were on Jund you would more likely keep such a hand, but with Mardu playing only 20 lands you can't do that.
I watched Gerry's feature match and glimpsed some of his sideboard cards, it looks similar to this:
The rest I did not see. I am also not sure if he plays LtLH in the side, I know he also plays 2 LoTV, but I believe in the main. No Hazoret as it seems, and I believe at least another Fulminator for sure. Might be wrong though.
I think he is not as used at mardu as he is used to jund. He kept too greedy hand and his side/main is a bit strange.
Also it seems that he plays 4 MD collective brutality and some grim lavamancer too. That seems me wrong in that meta. I will try to find his exact list if I remember correctly someone on the facebook page gave a bit of his list saying top tables were full of tron/jeskai/humans/mardu/hollow one.
Thanks for the list. I'm not a fan of 2 lili MD + only 2 blood moon main, same for 2 fulminator in side and only 1 bridge but maybe it was right for him.
With KCI being so high do you think leyline of the void become a must in SB or is nihil spell bomb + surgical better? Kambal seems to have a lot of value too in this matchup.
Hello all, I'm shopping around to pick a deck for Modern and this one looked pretty interesting, not to mention I already own some of the pricey cards. The OP seems fairly out of date though compared to the decklists I'm seeing? Is there a more recent primer somewhere I could read that had explanations of card choices, matchups, sideboarding, etc.? Thanks!
Do you think the new M19 Infernal Judgement will help us and deserve a slot in SB? Maybe as an answer to big eldrazi/wurmcoil/hollow one.

It's way too narrow to play in our board for how diverse modern is.

It really depends your MD and your side! But if you play 3 BM main and at least 7-8 cards that need W in your side then you should consider it.

Yes, even the Jund master plays Mardu. Am curious about his takee on the archetype.
I watched Gerry's feature match and glimpsed some of his sideboard cards, it looks similar to this:
2 Wear // Tear
2 Engineered Explosives
1 Ensnaring Bridge
1 Liliana, the Last Hope
2 Kambal, Consul of Allocation
1 Fulminator Mage
3 other cards

Maybe a 2/1 split of surgical/extirpate as I like the idea of having 2 of each bit it will make our SB more weak to other decks.

You are aware that most activated abilities of KCI are mana abilities?
Yes it's true but the triggers that makes the loop are not so you can extirpate the scrap trawler trigger or when they sac their KCI.
