Hello everybody! New to the club so please be gentle
So, My head got stuck on the new PW and pillage.
Need help for brewing.
As for now, the basic list I have in mind looks like this (I have some problem with links, I apologize) :
22 lands (budget version)
2 WR canopy
2 GW canopy
4 forests
4 mountains
4 GR shocks
4 GQ
2 New fetch for basics
Rain package (12)
4 molten
4 stone
4 pillage
Support package (8):
4 bolts
4 Bloodbride Elf
Ramp (8):
4 utopia sprawl
4 simian spirit guide
Wincon (10)
3 Wren and Six
3 Huntmaster of the Fells
2 Goblin Dark Dwellers
2 Chandra, ToD
Edit: cut a color after realizing that Collected Conjuring cannot work with just 12 rains - made the manabase more solid and the deck more focused.
GDD has been tested pretty thoroughly and consensus opinion is that there are better options. IMO, ditch the GDDs & SSGs in favor of Arbor Elf, BoP, and a better finisher; Stormbreath Dragon & Inferno Titan are both solid options and budget-friendly to boot. Also, no blood moon?
I feel that the reprint of Nantuko Cultivator could help us partially solve the mana flood problem mid-late game. Will be testing it when the cards become available.
Hi guys. I will be taking the deck in a new direction after next week. I don't know if it will solve all the problems this deck does have, but I do know its going to be fun as heck. I've changed the way the cards are categorized so its easy to see quickly what I'm up to.
I'm still tuning the concept on paper before MH1 releases. I feel like the deck moves faster like this, but my comfort zone with inferno titan wants to pull me back...

Okay. just to be sure. Pillage straight up replaces any copy of Molten rain in the main? Seem like having access to artifact removal game 1 is way more useful than the conditional 2 damage. It also frees up one or two slots in the side.
Again, just wanna be sure. I'm running a ponza list with Goblin dark-dwellers and it just seem better in every way. I'm even thinking of running a playset in the 60.
Hey guys!
Played FNM tonight and went 3-1 with Ponza.
Sleeved Ponza this week the first time for over a year.
Played without BBE, but with 3 Karn, the great Creator and 2 Goblin Dark Dwellers (just because I couldn`t find any Glorybringer)
Match 1: 2-0 vs. Mill
Game 1 and 2 Blood Moon on Turn 2 were enough to lock him out.
Match 2: 2-0 vs. Humans
Game 1 I handled his Vial with Pillage and his 2 Lands with Stone Rain and Goblin Dark Dwellers, recasting Stone Rain. Opponent scooped Turn 4.
Game 2 He started with Vial and only one Land(for the hole game), Turn 2 he played Kitesail Freebooter and saw 2 Anger of the Gods, Inferno Titan and Chandra, Torch of Defiance.
Opponent scooped Turn 5.
We played two more matches just for fun and he stomped me, so I felt a little lucky after all.
Match 3: 1-2 vs. Izzet Phoenix
Game 1 Karn the great Creator fetched me an Ensnaring Bridge and he scooped
Game 2 & 3 TiTi pressured me, while Ensnaring Bridge got handled by Echoing Truth and Abrade.
He never got any Phoenix on the battlefield, but Titi alone is quite a powerhouse...
Match 4: 2-1 vs. Grishoalbrand
Game 1 he went off Turn 3 and I feld pretty helpless.
Game 2 was a Festival of misplays on both sides, which ended because he couldn´t pay enough mana for his spells because of Trinisphere and got beaten down.
Game 3 I played Scavenging Ooze turn 2 and ate his Griselbrand from the Yard. He never got more than 3 lands, because of LD spells, always holding mana open for Scooze.
After all, Ponza felt pretty solid and I think I´m back on Arbor Elves, Stone Rains and friends
Excited to know the site will be sticking around, I'll look into doing the updating that I had put off. Several new sets and a few directions the deck has gone. Not many results though.
I've been off the deck at my LGS because of meta. The rebirth of Mardu Pyromancer and Jund, and the Tron that preys on them is good things for our deck so i foresee a positive shift for us.
Has this deck pretty much been abandoned? I think that there are lots of decks that this is good against, but can suffer against UW Control running multiple copies of Force of Negation. Any tips on how to beat it?
I haven't had any problems against Force of Negation. What card are they countering of yours? Moon isn't that critical to that match up and most of the time I'd be happy enough with the 2 for 1.
This deck has been bad in most metas for a while. But I think with recent shifts we'll see people returning here for updated versions.
One important note is that MadcapEmperion is impossible for most Hogaak decks to beat in the main and is also very good at slowing down most Phoenix variations. The decks it is bad against like Tron or Jund we already have a good match-up against.
I am strongly against Bloodbraid at least in current iterations of the deck. Even hitting the best 3 drops 50% of the time and other times hitting a dork. A 1 3/2 haste is very good, but its not a card our deck should be playing let. I think there are variations where it would shine, but the standard list isn't it. I think once the 3 drops start focusing around things like Rabblemaster is where it's inclusion becomes beneficial.
Below are two directions the deck has gone. Once more aggressive, the other going for the harder control into the combo win.
I'm actually running a version that appears to be a hybrid of both of those decks. Just trying to find something a little different than the run-of-the-mill versions that people would expect. I'm packing slightly more land destruction with 3 each Stone Rain/Pillage/Molten Rain, Domri Rade/Vivien Reid/Domri, Choas Bringer to search out my creatures. Dependant on my opponents I would sideboard in Karn, the Great Creator in the place of the other Planeswalkers. So far it seems to work, but the basically free Force of Negation is frustrating.

pillage destroying vial. Looks like the reprint did nicely for our deck.
