PONZA wins the Open! Awesome! All the hate from the announcers, but let them keep refusing to believe this is a real deck. Congrats to Andrew Wolbers!
lol yeah Ryan was hating on the deck a ton. Definitely congrats to Andrew. I haven’t seen the list but 1 thing he said after winning in the interview was cutting Inferno Titan from 3 to 2. There are a bunch of people still holding on to Titan but good for them if they keep winning.

I've discussed a ton about cutting down on titan. I settled on 1 and it's been fine. But the deck really can't handle playing 3. Makes for some seriously clunky openers.
Both the winning deck and the 25th place deck by Drake Davis had 21 lands and 2 Birds. I personally like 22 lands and 1 Bird. I've seen it run both ways tho.
Zero copies of Acid Moss is very interesting. And at the same time 3 Inferno Titans. I always thought Acid Moss into Titan was the reason for either card to be in there, like Bonnie and Clyde. From my POV it looks like Acid Moss made way for Pia and Kiran. I like that card too, apparently this list leans towards having to deal with weenies earlier rather than later.

I understand the announcers' salt, those were some really wonky keeps in the last few games, and some odd deck choices in a lot of ways for the winner; zero Relics to give you a chance against Living End or Storm?? Blegh! However, congrats to Andrew for his great success!

Trinisphere does a number on both of those decks. Couple it with the land D main plan and it's very difficult for cascaders to actually pay for their "free" spell. Storm is likewise dead in the water unless they find their shattering spree. In the meantime they have to keep alive with stone rains and RG monsters coming and pummeling them.

what i found more odd was the complete lack of Stormbreath Dragon, it’s always done quite a lot of work for me.

This! I knew something felt off with the list but I couldn't put my finger on it and then I realised. Stormbae is still the best win-con in my opinion and the most consistent draw to put me from "ahead" to "game over". None the less a massive congratulations to both pilot and deck. It was wonderful news to wake up to this morning. Ponza has only up to go!
There is a little bit of me that doesn't want to see the Ponza community inundated with new players suddenly taking it seriously. I quite liked being the odd-ball Mary Sue. But if the involvement of others makes us grow then all the merrier! I'm gonna take a fresh look at including Birds I think. I've resisted up until now, but maybe that's to my detriment.
Andrew Wolbers stated he would drop 1 inferno titan next time around. I would go -1 Titan +1 Dragon.
The lack of Acid Moss is not surprising. It's not really synergistic with BBE and let's be honest... Ponza didn't play more than 8 dedicated LD spells pre-BBE, going over 8 now that we have BBE doesn't make any sense. Acid Moss is the obvious cut that people still hold on to. Sure it is nice with tracker and sure it ramps to titan, but really... there are better things we can do with 4 mana, especially since the slot is crowded with BBE.

Trinisphere is a 2-of in a SB of a deck with maybe 4 interaction spells in its 75. If you face a spell-based combo deck, that can win on Turn 3, do you really rely on all of 2 cards to stop them? Seems like super poor odds, to me.

Excuse me, but I have to point out that we play around 10-16 interactive cards MD.
Stone Rain, Stone Rain, Stone Rain, Stone Rain, Molten Rain, Molten Rain, Molten Rain, Blood Moon...
Haaaa.
On a more serious note he got a bit lucky against Storm in the finals. His opponent drew badly and didn't mulligan when he should have. I would be packing 3 Trini myself but, I have never won a large event.
Very happy with the result though.

Isn't this classic Magic? I mean people play typically wide answers for a variety of decks. if an answer is narrow you're forced to play only a few copies. That's why I like gifts/chord decks, because I can look for the answers if I need them. Its really simple man; in the postboard games whoever draws their sideboard wins. Its no different from Choke, Leylines, Rule of Law, Stony Silence etc etc against all their respective bugbears.
Also, Living End is going to have issues going off turn 3 against a blood moon deck that also packs LD. Demonic dread might be castable with luck, but ardent plea is definitely an issue. So its not like we're a sitting duck before Trini.
As for storm, well if u can keep their mana off-balance they will need the luckiest of hands to hit the magical Gifts+3 mana floating kill sequence. Its also not impossible to keep the fetchless version of storm completely off of blue from turn 2, in which case they have to count on manamorphose, and all their cantrips are switched off.
Stony Silence isn't narrow, and neither is any Leyline that's played in Modern. I can find Blood Moon against Tron and still lose because I didn't apply any pressure; I'm fairly certain Storm is no different with Trinisphere. They do run removal for it in the Side.
Honestly, it sounds like you view some aspects of Magic in a very narrow way, which is probably incorrect.

If you're going to resort to a personal attack, please don't be vague.
Your first paragraph isn't pushing any kind of coherent point, so I'll assume we're done here. Thanks for the conversation.

Your argument of, "The first one to find their SB piece wins," is a narrow view of Modern, and I've found it to be incorrect fairly often. The point was that SB answers can sometimes not be enough, they can be answered, etc. Modern just isn't as one-dimensional as that, and neither is Stony Silence or Leyline of Sanctity/the Void. Silence answers Tron in most forms, as well as Lantern (somewhat) and Affinity. Leyline of the Void can stop Dredge or Storm or Living End fairly hard, but it also hurts Snapcaster, Hollow One decks, and Goyf/Traverse stuff. Sanctity can be used to hate on Burn, Storm/Ad Naus, or just stop targeted Discard. Heck, I've had it used against me to stop Koth's Ult from winning games.
So basically, I disagree entirely with some of the points you were trying to make, and I too will assume we're done here. Thanks for the convo!

Interesting list. 3 titan and no dragons and no tarmogoyf. Full set of trackers as well.
I guess titan is still a strong finisher for this deck.
