Yeah. i tested it mentor out. I woulden't go that route:P i sold my mentors soon after i had a naya mentor/assualt/loam build
Mykatdied: So you would go with infestaion+assault? the problem is. if you get infesation in play, you want to get that going by dredgeing your Loam. And then you'll proberly just mill the assault
then you would run something like 3 assault and 2-3 infestation? i've been tinkering with infestation in SB. or assualt in SB of a infestation deck. Just to be able to switch game plan
Probably more like 3 assault and 4 infestation. infestation can help you buy time to solidify a win. If you are that concerned about milling assault then I would just run the creature less version that runs 7 card draw spells Between looting and ravings. I personally wouldn't bother with infestation, but then again all the aggro decks in my local meta would probably stumble over zombies too much for me to not win when I find assault and get it online.
That's an interesting list. I don't know how well it would hold it's own against Junk though. It doesn't really stop Seige Rhino terribly well and it isn't very resistant to the attrition style game that Junk tries to play.
Crusher honestly just flat out outranks rhino for this match up which I think it the goal to having it. Goyf also at least matches a rhino in P/T. We are probably better at the attrition game than they are in all honesty.
I'm putting together a RG list, though I'm missing a few key cards.
Quick question: does Ghost Quarter make this deck competitive against UTron? I've gotten crushed every time I've played against my wife's list, because even if I land the Seismic Assault, I have to spend all my resources taking care of Wurmcoil Engine or Platinum Angel. The Ancient Grudges I picked up yesterday should help, but I never even felt like I was in the game against it.

Ghost Quarter helps but certainly doesn't stop them. Puts you down a land and they can just find new Tron parts. You could try adding Surgical Extraction in the sideboard, to use on a Tron piece after destroying it. Or you could add more land hate in the 'board, like Molten Rain or Sowing Salt. I like Salt. Again it doesn't stop them just slows it down. You might also try Krosan Grip. Damping Matrix is pretty sweet too, hits their moving parts but no effect on enchantments.
Thanks. I had Molten Rain and Sowing Salt on my list of cards to get, but Krosan Grip and Damping Matrix are news to me.
Strategy question: against UWR Delver/Geist, if you've got two lands in hand, do you generally pitch those to Seismic Assault to kill Geist's token while you block Geist on the ground with something? Or do you just go straight for the dome?

Hey everyone, I recently started playing a version of this deck. I think it might resemble a Dredge/Reanimator deck moreso but it does have all the key cards for an Assault Loam deck as well. I figured I would post it here to maybe get some feedback and suggestions. I just went 4-0 in my first Modern Daily event yesterday with this deck on MTGO beating out Splinter Twin, Jund, Merfolk, and Red Deck/Burn.
During the event I had a slightly different sideboard with Pyroclasm and Dragon's Claw but, those didn't seem to work out as well as I had hoped for so I am now trying Conflagrate and Timely Reinforcements instead. My general idea was to go pretty much as all in as possible game 1 with dredging and reanimation. Game 2 I can bring in some Seismic Assault to attack from a different angle other than reanimation as well as bring in cards that combat their hate. My main concern is the manabase. I have never been the greatest with making a manabase correctly and the fact that this is a 4c deck made it pretty difficult. During my matches every game felt pretty clunky as far as mana is concerned but I am not quite sure if that is because the manabase is built wrong or if that is just the nature of a 4c deck. I am open to suggestions, questions, advice, etc.. if you have any
Wild nacatl should be one of your 1 drops over probably lynx since without landfall it's just bad. If you really like it for it's potential you could switch a lion for the Nacatl. But the 3 power is definitely relevant. Given the popularity of twin I would also suggest that rending volley be one of your burn spells even in the main. It will most always be relevant as it kills a lot that will get in your way.
my reasoning behind Loam / Ape / Lynx was to get not too distracted in terms of Mana requirements (12 One-Drops in White or Red) and Lynx is here especial because of Atarka's Command and his landdrop-Case.
Funny fact, while creating this list i didn't recognize the following "Nut Draw":
Oopening Hand with Arid Mesa, Faithless Looting and Hooting Mandrills.
Turn 1: Fetch, Loot = 4 Cards in the graveyard.
Turn 2: Landdrop, cast Mandrills for 2 and Delve 4.
I know, it's not the best opener, but quite aggressive in case there is no 1-Drop in hand.
Ok,
tested the above list on Trice yesterday and have to say: Nooooo Way!
Mandrills and Command didn't pay off, so i'm on Young Pyromancer, Flame Jab and Knight of the Reliquary at my FNM today:
1st Round UR Storm 2:0
Both Matches i destroyed his Pyromancer's Ascencion and he was stuck with a Hand full of Lands.
2nd Round Jund 2:1
Match 1 he had every possible removal in hand and removed 5 Dudes in a row.
Finally Knight of the Reliquary took the Match home.
Match 2 he had some removal and Goyfs to trample over me.
Match 3 took long and i win through Molten Rain and the Back of a damn huge Knight
3rd Round 4C Gifts 0:2
Match 1 he resolved a Grave Titan after Gifts, which i got rid of with Path to Exile,
but his Tokens along with Elesh Norn called GG.
Match 2 was kinda grindy, i managed to pathes his Titan and we had even Board State. Tectonic Edge kept
him off too many Lands, but finally a 2nd resolved Gifts Ungiven was sth. i couldn't handle.
List has to be updated, Dromoka's Command didn't pay off and a single Flame Jab is also worth looking at.
Finally Loam + Assault are Blasts! That engine is so funny.
I play Zoo for about 10 months now and always had the issue of running out of Gas Mid- to Lategame / no Reach at all and Loam fits
that Gap nicely. Also Faithless Looting is a bunch of fun to play with.

thinking of putting this together i come up with some questions:
I don't own Tarmogoyf so could Hooting Mandrills be a completitive choice here?
My list will be RG or Naya aggressive Style.
Green @ it's best
i got a first sketch here and like to hear you oppinion on that:
4 Loam Lion
4 Kird Ape
3 Hooting Mandrills
15 Beatdown Creatures
4 Seismic Assault
4 Life from the Loam
12 Assault Loam Package
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Path to Exile
11 Burn & Removal

Rending Volley sounds nice on paper, but didn't hit Tarmogoyf, Tasigur, the Golden Fang, Siege Rhino and Gurmag Angler which are all huge Threats.
But i do understand the issue with Twin...i keep thinkin of that. I'm durdling around with Dromoka's Command as it hits Twin, Burn, Blood Moon, Keranos and even Eidolon of the Great Revel.

2 Dromoka's Command
Maybe I'll switch Command for 2 Commune with the Gods in the future, depends how it performs.

1st thing:
Changed my List to go more Aggro without YP + Flame Jab:
4 Wooded Foothills
4 Windswept Heath
3 Stomping Ground
2 Sacred Foundry
1 Stirring Wildwood
2 Mountain
1 Forest
1 Plains
1 Tectonic Edge
4 Kird Ape
2 Qasali Pridemage
3 Knight of the Reliquary
2 Hooting Mandrills
4 Life from the Loam
3 Seismic Assault
4 Faithless Looting
2 Commune with the Gods
4 Path to Exile
2 Dromoka's Command
which worked out decent.
