Removing redirection rule will hurt us as planeswalkers are important to get rid of because of contant card advantage
So Funeral Charm gets value uptick as Mutavault + FC often kill planeswalker on the spot instead of just removing two loyalty
Wrench Mind can be a better card now because field is playing more value games
Im still skeptical about fourth Thoughtseize, its bad vs aggro and bad as topdeck
Damping Sphere can be nice even without us using it as passive Tron lands hate
Im not sure about using it, its very narrow, it slows opponent down but does nothing against present board
Round 1 : 2-1 vs UR Storm
I won game 1.
I did an error in my siding after that : I forgot that storm side in empty the warrens. Then I side out bontu's last reckonning => G2 lost
G3, my opponent mulligan down to 5 cards. He couldn't come back in the game.
Round 2 : 2-0 vs Abzan
My opponent's build was curious : no lingering souls but 3 leyline of sanctity maindeck.
G1 : he didn't tried to get the leyline. I won.
G2 : he hard mulligan downto 5 or 4 cards without getting his leyline. He is immediately punished, I win.
Round 3 : 1 - 2 vs Affinity.
I lost the first game.
I win easily the second.
the third one was very narrow between us. He was at 3 life and me at 1. He had a lonely oversteel seer equiped with cranial plating on the table and no card in hand. I had an affliction on the table. If I topdeck one of my 13 removal I win. unfortunately I drew a smallpox.
Round 4 : 2-0 vs Bant Eldrazi
The only two things I remeber are :
- I could turn around thalia relatively easily
- Thalia made me won the second game because he couldn't play ratchet bomb fast enough. furthermore my opponent wasn't uptodate with the ruling of tokens : he thought that my copies of pack rats had a 0 converted mana cost. then he was slow enough to sweep my flooding rats.
Round 5 : 2-0 vs Grixis Death's Shadow.
I've been lucky in my opening hand and draws.
G1 : when at 11 like, he played 3 death's shadows. I killed them in the next turn : 1 Dismember, 1 liliana, 1 smallpox.
G2 : once more my opponent decided to hardmulligan downto 5 cards. he had only 1 land. I smollpowexed him T2 and he stands for some turns unable to play anything because he didn't draw any land.
I hesitated a lot in the building of my deck before going there.
Reading once more both articles of tom ross helped me to do the good choices :
- no uncolored land except 4 mutavault (I used to play 2 ghost quarters, and I see clearly the increase of stability)
- no inhabuitual cards : I wonder if 2 pithing needle were benefics... I let them out 15 minutes before the first round.
I diverged in the following points :
- about the creature plan in the sideboard : I tried 3 death's shadows in last september, and I don't like it besause its CCM is 1 and usually I played it but it was too late or my opponent had flying creatures or a removal.
- I played 23 lands
I do really like pack rat to go through chalice of the void. I like especially the mutavault synergy.
I noticed that about 25% or 30% of the field were jund. There was 3 of them in the top 8.
I think I've been lucky not to encounter one of them.
I do really like 8 rack. I'm afraid of the redirection rule modification.
Dont you think that 4 Rats + 4 Delirium Skeins is an overkill vs Leyline? Provided there are cards that are good against it maindeck - Liliana, Smallpox, they both 'use' cards disabled by enchantment.
Also how is Bontu's Last Reckoning? Im more into Flaying Tendrils because it also exiles while hitting big things is less relevant because they dont come in multiples and we have sac effects for them.
Rats is not only vs chalice. If played on turn 2, it can give us one chance against tron decks.
I do really want to have it in my oppening hand or draw it early in the game.
the debate is opened about delirium skeins. As it is 3 Converted mana cost I think we can go down to 3 copies. Furthermore, it is rare when we want to play it twice. We want to play ti trwice against decks that draws a lot (ancestral vision, UWx decks).
Bontu's last reckonning is a big upgrade of the deck as it hits big monsters and token decks (tarmogoyfs, eldrazis, lingering souls, joung pyromancer, elves, death's shadows, tasigur, gurmag angler, etc).
3 board sweeps is the good number. maybe 4 in the future depending to the predominance of BBE into tarmo or something like that. I played 1 flaying tendrils because I have'nt the third bontu's and because it deals very well with voice of resurgence and finks.
sac effects vs eldrazi is quite useless as they prefer to sac a noble hierarch before their TKS.
Turn 2 TKS and reality smasher turn 3 exists. Bontu's is the only card that permits to survive the next turn.
However those are my own conclusion with my own, narrow experience. I don't play enough in competitive context (2 or 3 times a year). I can't play FNM.
one last word about funeral charm : they become interesting back because they are powerfull vs dark confidant that come back in force (x4 in jund) and they stay discard if needed. those 2 adaptable slot (discard or removal for dork or bob) is very relevant.
Random question for the thread. Has anyone ever considered, or actually tried, running Dream Salvage as a 1 mana, draw 2-4? Just theory-crafting, but I see a lot of scenarios where you can make your opponent discard 2-4 cards in one turn, especially if you run Augur of Skulls as sort of a "delayed discard" effect. That said, I have very limited experience with the deck, so I wanted to ask the experts
Recently I have been running Lost Legacy MB with great results. Only as a 1 of but I would like two of them. For the most part I use it on myself, targeting some sort of useless card. Against game 1 Affinity for example I top decked it at low health targeting wrench mind, drawing 3 cards (I run 3 mb), and then proceeded to retake the game. Just an idea of course
Private Mod Note
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Modern: B 8Rack RX Goblins BG Elves (Attempting) UBW Mill G Stompy UB Tezzerator
Legacy: W Stax
are you sure you understood correctly lost legacy ?
you draw only for cards exiled from hand. To draw 3 cards targetting wrench mind means you've got all three wrench mind in your hand when you play lost legacy !
@swplyr : i haven't test it. Once I saw someone testing (6 months ago).
i m not sure it is really efficient. usually you have no cards in hand. you use all your mana to discards, so yon won't be able to play it the turns you have made your opponent discard 3 cards.
personnally, i tested dark confidant, and it can be very efficient because there is no condition to draw. however it is no synergistic with smallpox.
Humans - Bontu's or other sweeper, all the targeted removal, maybe ratchet bomb
Hollow One - Bontu's or other sweepers, all the targeted removal, Nihil's Spellbomb, Surgical Extraction
Eldrazi - Bontus' or other sweepers, all the targeted removal
These are the reasons why I abandoned the deck for now. The meta is full of heavy aggro creatures and powerful decks (TROOOOON). I believe the answer is to think outside the box in order to be more proactive against creatures and graveyard. Maybe running 4 ensnaring bridges main deck, along with sweepers... Who knows.
Jund with BBE match up is terrible for us. they have better topdecks than us, have a lot of solution to deal with the rack, have a way to draw (bob).
I have not find a good solution yet.
I wonder if a white splash for lingering soul is a good ID. I dont know how damping sphere changes the MU.
maybe introducing ensnaring bridge to slow down the swarm.
young pyromancer is easier. you have to control graveyard in order to slow the bedlam reveler and side in boardsweeper because token mustn't stay on the board.
I dont play much nowadays but formerly Jund was a great matchup
I used to side out all racks because on top of ordinary stuff they have Ancient Grudge
And side in Nyxathids, Pack Rat and Fulminator Mage
BBE Jund is tougher as it is faster and has more card advantage but I believe very beatable, should be about 50%
Hey guys, how do you all feel about Scrying Sheets? Obviously this is a last resort use of our mana but it seems like we often end up on 3 or 4 lands and start top decking 1 drops. we only need 3 lands to activate the Scrying Sheets so it seems like it could come up. Where do you feel you usually end up on lands with this deck? A mana sink is useful but is 3 lands too expensive?
My meta has a low to nonexistent number of tron players. Because of this, Ghostquarter has less of a premium. We still need the man lands but Scrying Sheets gives us something to do late game with our extra mana.
The first question is: how many colorless lands can 23/24 lands with 4 Urborg support? It looks like most lists run 4 Urborg / 4 Man Lands and don't play Ghostquarter at all. How bad does it hurt us to up one colorless land?
Do you feel like the late game mana sink will come up often enough to utilize it? Sheets only has about a 20% chance of drawing us a card.
Sheets makes Fetch Lands and Dakmor Salvage slightly better by letting us look at the top card of our library which we can then shuffle or Dredge away. But this gives us fewer Snow-covered Swamps to draw into.
2x Scrying Sheets is probably at least 1 too many but I want to test it out and running 2 will give me the most data as to how useful it is. Also, are there any adjustments you would make to the mainboard when trying this out? Maybe more retrace cards are useful now?
Hello guys!! this month I will try to share as much as possible in order to try to develop the deck more and more because I intend to play the GP in July. I still do not know if I go with 8rack he is in my preferences, but I find the deck with great potential, so I ask your help so we can develop the guide, with statistics and machtups.
