Hello fellow rackers
As the primer says, 8rack is an highly customizable shell. So I went ahead and wanted to build a creature heavier version... This is the list I play-tested in a recent FNM:
There were 20 opponents in the FNM and I ended up losing in the semi-finals.
The star was Smuggler's Copter to get more value out of "enter the battlefield" rats such as Burglar Rat or Rotting Rats.
The only addition in the list above from the deck I used at the FNM is Chittering Rats. I found that depite all the discard rats, some opponents kept lands in hand to wreck the main plan. I thought that Chittering Rats could be a way out (unless they fetch), while comboing with the other rats and copter. Although Wrench Mind could also work...
I lost in semi-finals against Burn, which was just too good at top-decking... Do you think I should consider Funeral Charm as an instant speed discard? It also gives swampwalk to the pumped up Pack Rat. Alternatively, Aether Vial could instant cast rats in this setup to discard in the draw phase or crew copters. Another play I see with the vial is cycling with copter and vialing a rat in before the damage phase to pump a pack rat... Or vial a Pack Rat in and double it for just 3 mana
I'm open to any suggestion. This is not meant to be a budget deck, just a creature/tribal rat twist on 8Rack.
Cheers
Id definitely get rid of Ghost Quarter, Mutavault and Swarmyard are much better in rats deck. Id rise colorless land count to atleast 6 because deck is not very hungry for black. Maybe even 8.
Id definitely use Ravenous Rats it looks like what we are looking for
I dont like Rotting Rats very much, its equal effect makes it soso. Chittering Rats is also a bit expensive for its effect. Smuggler's Copter does nothing on its own and is not essential for our strategy so Id cut 1-2 copies. Funeral Charm is a versatile card, all modes seem relevant, it can be ok
Vial is most likely bad here
Thanks for the sound suggestions. I'll try removing the Ghost Quarters and putting 4 Mutavault and 2-4 Swarmyard in (as in all my tribal rat decks anyway).
The idea behind Rotting Rats was to either play it empty-handed, or to discard it to Pack Rat or Copter and play it again from the graveyard. So far I found it quite successful. I could replace it with Ravenous Rats but I'd lose the recursion effect. Burglar Rat is a better version of Ravenous Rats, as it avoids Leyline of the Void.

This looks really spicy as a 8Rack build being a creature heavy synergy. I like the idea, definitely gets around Leyline of Sanctity which at times hurts 8Rack but being heavily reliant on the creature package can hurt. Looks a lot more like Rat Tribal with 8Rack synergy. Nonetheless, I like it!
Finally finished foiling out 8-RACK!!! Take a gander and let me know what you discard lovers think!
8 Racks & 8 Boxtoppers (4x Lilie's and 4x Urborg toppers,4x foil OG IOK,16x foil unstable swamps)
The only card I'm really wondering if I should consider is Waste Not, and the sideboard is really just a concession to dredge and Phoenix being what it is right now. I'm also of the mindset that some of the Relics could very easily be in the maindeck.
Davirel doesn't seem that great because he's very vulnerable to damage. You can get at least one discard out of him, which is great, and he'll be amazing against decks that can't aggro him, but he's going to be lackluster against the creature decks that can hit him for 2 easily. I think he's going to take at most 2 slots in the main but could be a good 4-of in the sideboard for the control match-ups. For example, he could take the place of Delerium Skeins easily.
The card I'm far more excited about is Liliana's Triumph. It will be great against creature decks and dropping a Liliana will just make it amazing. It's instant-speed too.

I like both new cards
but I like pw more, because its both effects we need in one card, consistency is very important here
removal is a bit of winmore card
Sign in Blood is a bad choice imo, its for attrition matchups and super bad vs aggro, so its not for maindeck
to play 6 3-drops we need 23-24 lands (this number goes lower if we cut Smallpox but I dont think we should)
If my assumptions are correct the best decklist shuld be
With fetches (+Fatal Push), Murderous Cut and Dakmor Salvage being personal preferences.
But for test purposes it is better to higher nubmers for new cards
It is my personal belief that 4 Davriel is too much. 2-3 seems to be the sweet spot from the light proxy testing I have done. I also think that 4 Lilianas Triumph is the correct number, maybe between main and side. It is a once sided small pox against so many lists.
I wonder if including 1 or 2 the elderspell in the side woudn't be worth it as there will be more PW.
And I have the similar question for the new ashiok.
Personnally i would cut 1 bridge and 1 davreil as long as you have only 20 lands and 12 spells of 3 CMC.
...
Even with 10 spells with 3 CMC, I think that 20 lands are two few even though you don't play smallpox.
With a 4x Bridge list I would run 2x Pack Rat to ensure you are hellbent if you do not draw a land to discard to Raven's Crime. It also creates a second layer of defense in case of a bridge blowout, or even a plan B for a lethal swing after you destroyed your own bridge with a -6 lili. I wouldn't go below 4 Raven's Crime in the main, it is our core engine that keeps everything together. I love your list! How is grafdigger's + surgicals doing against dredge? I might switch my leylines for cages as well.

I guess I could try:
Replacing 4 Chittering Rats with 4 Funeral Charm

Did you see War of the sparks' new card :
Liliana's triumph 1B
Instant
Each opponent sacrifies a creature.
If you control a liliana PW, each opponent also discards a card .
I think I will test it in place of dismember. It seems great !!

Protoaddict, would you cut Fatal Pushes to some degree to make room for more Triumphs?
