New land from core 2020 looks like a source of late game draw. Our colorless land slots are already crowded though.. will still be testing it as a single, when it becomes available.
Personally, I'm not that excited about the caves as the horizon lands did the same and never excited me either. Our gameplan is to have lots and lots of plains, so every land I put that's not a plains needs to have a very good function to do it, and drawing a card by sacrificing it when all our deck is already geared towards that doesn't seem optimal.
But let's keep seeing the spoilers to see if our deck gets some much deserved love ;p
It has potential, Horizon Canopy has always been a good card but I think your right and we'd need to replace a Blast Zone or Ghost Quarter to play it.
yeah, feels a bit weak compared to Blast Zone. Although my build still has 4 spread seas, so I could cut a field for one of these. Well, if Caves turns out to be crap, I could simply put the Field of Ruin back in again.
Would just like to say as well.. leyline of void got reprinted, and is currently cheap. It's one of the grave hate we could use since it only affects the opponent. I'm going to get a playset, as it's one of the better hosers against Hogaak Vine.
I personally like Ghost Quarter the most right now, as my colorless land of choice. Blast Zone is very good but definitely clunky, it usually requires you to take off two turns to utilize it. On another note, I'm not against the Leyline of the Void plan but I do like Surgical Extraction and Tormod's Crypt better, to round out my graveyard hate. If you're thinking of playing leyline, I would increase my Champion of Wits count, to have the option to be able to discard a dead one if it gets stuck in hand.
So I played the first league match in a while on magic online last week and ended up going 5 - 0 with mono white emeria! I got lucky with my matchups, and played tight but did get paired against mostly creature based with decks. I had a lot of fun, I'd recommend the decklist to test if you want a change of pace. I'd also recommend cutting Mistveil Plains from the mana base if you play this as it's very clunky.
Cavalier of Squall looks strong. 5/5 flying body for 5 mana with a brainstorm attached and scry 2 when dies. Needs three blue, but seems worth it. Espescially in decks that could blink him. I currently use 3 hussars, will replace one with this guy.
Hello, I'm back. First of all I want to say I really enjoy seeing this thread this alive after I stopped playing some time ago. To that time it seemed to kind of die.
As I'm a bit out of deck and the format my comments probably won't be the best, however, I just feel like I have to add something to the Cavalier. I see three big problems with it: UUU (as you mentioned), it has not that high synergy with the deck and you probably blink it when you already won. In my opinion it's one of the win-more cards like Ephara or Panharmonicon. Especially compared to Court Hussar it seem to be weak, as the mentioned card comes down earlier, gets the engine running and is itself part of the recursion engine.

-Congrats @ Fincown! That’s awesome!
-While it’s got a lot of great text, Cavalier seems pretty mana intensive and too slow for this current metagame.
-Have y’all seen Brought Back? Two mana to bring back two of our ETB creatures seems really strong. I definitely would like to test. This could be a great way to get further value out of our chump blockers at the end of our opponents turn (particularly with a wall, hussar, or Titan).

@The Fluff
I think EggcitedBird and Chantu9Y have brought up some good points concerning Cavalier of Squal, and personally I think that the effect is not worth it's steep mana cost. That shouldn't stop you from playing it if you want to though. I also think it may see modern play, I could see it as an easy inclusion in Primespeaker Vannifar pod decks. I would advise upping your fetch-land count to 6 - 7 to be able to guarantee turn five UUU with consistency.
@Chantu9Y Brought Back seems interesting, and I'm not sure how to evaluate it, what's cool that I don't think has been mentioned is that it specifies PERMANENT. This means if on turn two you crack two fetches and cast this you jump to four mana and then five on your turn. It could be worthwhile for our climb to Sun Titan and Emeria, the Sky Ruin.
Also, thanks everyone for the congratulations but like I said luck had a lot to due with it. I played against Humans, Phoenix, the new Mardu-Pyromancer, Slivers, and UG Merfolk. So basically all fair creature based aggro and graveyard shenanigans. Which emeria usually beats up on anyway. I was surprised by slivers though, they can kill you out of nowhere with an endstep coco for Manaweft Sliver and Cloudshredder Sliver.

I haven't said yet. The 3rd hussar in my deck used to be a Sun Titan. Currently, the only high cmc spells in my build are two Titan and one baneslayer. So turning the hussar into the cavalier would make it 2 titans + 1 baneslayer + one cavalier as the high cmc cards. Not really much of a slowdown, considering some lists have three titans in the main. The reason I plan to test out cavalier is because my meta has some arclight phoenix decks, and one more large guy who can block fliers and search more removal with his brainstorm, the better.. as crackling drake and phoenix can kill if unblocked for a few turns. And just as usual, if the cavalier is bad.. I can just put back the third hussar in again. :>
So the more I think about brought back the more I like it. I think I'll test it as a three to four of first to get a feel for it.
I also think I'll need to add more fetchlands either that or go back up to four GQ with three copies of Flagstones of Trokair. This is because GQ by itself enables two lands for Brought Back. Plus end step double GQ your OP then do it again is game breaking.
Created a Top 8's section at the bottom for the few recorded placings that our deck did a few years ago.
Well, those winning lists are outdated by today.. but might still be useful as reference on land count and number of creatures / spells.
Smaller event ($3K) but Emeria top 4'd with some interesting/questionable inclusions in the 75:
A full 4 Pilgrims eye with 3 Mortarpod, 2 Geist Honored Monk!, and a Lavinia of the Tenth in the SB
I'm surprised to say the least that this build had so much success but I think it speaks a bit about the power level of Emeria in today's meta despite using a lesser-optimized list. It definitely gives me more confidence to run it out more in modern events
Maybe we all have to go back to where we started He seem to go all in on emeria and the recursion without any flicker effects. I thought at these days this could be problematic with some graveyard tricks on the rise.
Is there any video coverage? I know that face-to-face games stream sometimes.
Edit: Checked their twitch and youtube, found nothing.
Hey all, I'm new to the deck and am currently hammering out a deck for FNM this week, just had a few questions. A lot of lists seem to run a top-end threat that isn't dependent on the graveyard, like Elspeth, Sun's Champion or Lyra Dawnbringer. Do you guys run one/think they're important for the deck? Which ones do you guys run/consider worth running? I haven't seen any lists with God-Eternal Oketra yet (probably in part cause she's new), but she seems really good. How many titans do you guys run? I've seen lists with as few as 2 and as many as 4 and I'm not sure how many is correct
I suggest 2-3 Titan, as he's our best threat in the deck. However, going full four titan is not advisable.. because you're screwed if the opponent manage to use surgical extraction on it. Surgicals are on high use right now because of hogaak and other yard decks.
Using other large creature depends on your playstyle and the environment, preferably something not dependent on the yard so it is not affected by grave hate that they bring in game 2. I tried many.. used batterskull for awhile, but it's vulnerable to abrade and stubborn denial, then used baneslayer angel which is great in delaying UR phoenix - the first strike of the angel kills phoenix and their crackling drake just fine. And if they double bolt the angel, those are 2 bolts that did not go into your life total. Oketra? Well, I would test her if have some copies.. but I don't. She's a self-recurring threat that makes big tokens, not vulnerable to yard hate, worth testing.

classic build I guess.
I honestly thought pilgrim's eye is obsolete, but the guy proved me wrong. Though as you observed, he seems to be all in on the Emeria plan. It's the first time I saw a winning list have these many pilgrim's eye. And I wonder if Geist-Honored Monk is a legit threat? Will be editing the primer a bit.
