It's unfortunate that Charming Prince won't be legal by then, you'll have to make due with Lone Missionary. This is the list that I've played with some success.
I would suggest playing a few games before you take this to a tournament as Brought Back has a lot of nuance to it. If you want to forgo Brought Back then I would suggest trimming a fetch land or two for basic lands and playing 2 - 3 Gideon of the Trials.
Playing only two Gideon of the Trials gives you access to a flex slot, here's a list of cards I've played in the past.
Also, is this a local tournament where you can predict your metagame? If so you may need to make changes to the sideboard to accomidate.
Emeria is favored against aggro and midrange, control and tempo is middling, big mana and combo are unfavored. The exception is Tron, this deck is built in a way where you have a 40/60 in game one and a 60/40 games 2 & 3, just remember to sacrifice Ranger-Captain of Eos.
Super stoked about charming prince now I won’t want to scoop to jund turn 2 when they wrenn minus my lone missionary
Some things I wanted to point out/ask:
I’ve been playing with a 1 of giver in the side, but I’m indifferent about it. It’s been super good in some matchups, but a lot of those matchups I also just want a kami, so I’m not sure what I think about it. Prob just gonna take it out all together since idk what I’d cut to where I could have both in my main.
Also I agree with the wrath trimmings I could see like 2 wrath(or 1 wrath/verdict) with 2 winds of abandon, cause that card has been super good for me.
Also I know marinjuk has a lot of success with brought back but has anyone else tested with it? From his experiences it seems really strong but I just want more of a sample size before I’m convinced and start investing in fetches for the package.
For those of you that have tested with the card, does it have a place in uw? I get the cuts are probably harder in this deck but it seems like it would be even better in a deck like this given ur non creature permanents
Finally, (and sorry I know lot of questions) can someone explain the justification behind champion of wits? Gonna be honest this card just seems like hot garbage. Maybe I’m undervaluing the eternalize effect but it just seems way too low of a power level for modern playability to me
sure thing but this is mono white list hope thats wat u were asking for lol
i gotta say though i will be letting this deck collect dust until charming prince is printed and am gonna play something else xd. btw a touch on the runed halo cause i dont see anyone else really using it. its of course a hit or miss against decks but against the decks it hits (like combo, our worst archetype matchup) its really strong, and against stuff like titanshift game 1 all we have to deal with if we jam runed halo is field of the dead ?
point is it helps our matchups and against other fair decks it can at least name a creature or something for some stalling. its just pretty dead vs control unfortunately
Hello value friends!
A couple of weeks ago I saw SaffronOlive playing a slightly different version of our typical UW Emeria which he called Soulmeria. For those of you who are not aware of this version, it basically trades our more controlling elements like planeswalkers and wraths for pure walue! Like the name suggests, the engine of the deck is Soulherder and Ephemerate.
After being on vacation and not playing modern since our buddy Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis was legal, I tried giving my version of this deck a shot yesterday.
This is the deck:
First of all let me just say I really loved the deck! Went 2-2 but I feel like it could have gone much better
I the first game, against Jund, went 2-1. First game got stuck on 3 white lands for the entire game, so not much to be done. Second and third games were the grindfest we're acustumed to. I got the upper hand on game 2 with a very long game, he got the upper hand on game 3 with a more explosive start.
Match 3 was scapeshift and I also won 2-0. MVP in the entire games was venser, shaper savant, which single handadly gave me game 1 by just bouncing lands (it was turn 8 and they had 4 lands after ramping every turn) and by bouncing the last green source they had on EOT when they had just casted summoner's pact. Trust me. It felt goooooood
Match 4 was Whirza which I had never played before. I lost 0-2 but felt that post sideboard should have won if it wasn't for the big mistake of not keeping up counter magic to protect my stony silence.
Having said all this, what do you guys think of the deck? Had you seen it before, had you tried it?? Feedback is always appreciated!!
I haven't played this decklist but I did watch the video. Original bant soulherder has a lot of paralells with emeria control, which is cool. Disruption plus a clock is great against both Tron and Scapeshift plus the value axis can grind through Jund. If this is your meta, it sounds like you just need to get experience in the Whirza matchup. Plus devote enough sideboard slots to fight it.
Speaking of bant soulherder, does anyone have experience in that matchup? That, or the 5 color Niv Mizzet seem to be trying to dominate the midrange bracket. They both seem a little soft to aggro though.
That said, I'd want to pick up regular bant soulherder before this list. As I think one of the big draws soulherder has over emeria control is that they don't have to rely on their graveyard to win. Otherwise I'd just play emeria.
Hey guys and gals I don't know how fast people usually upload back to this board but I would like to see a competitive list with eld being legal, the hope is to be around 470 using mtg goldfish but if it goes a bit more than that it would be perfectly fine, I'm going to be coming up with my own list and I would like the Emeria pros of this board to help me out with it. My meta consists with tron, burn, storm, and uw control, with the odd elves or other fringe decks here and there like any meta. I know storm isn't that good of a match up or at least that's what I think but I love how the deck works and what it does so I would like to play it. Thank you very much!
Storm, Tron, Burn, and UW Control right? As a general rule of thumb you want your sideboard slots to be multipurpose because there is only 15 slots.
For example in your sideboard countermagic like Dovin's Veto and possibly Dispel can be sideboarded into in a a most of those matches.
Damping Sphere is exceedingly important against Tron on the draw and it's also good against Storm. Both of those decks can and will take any amount of perminant based hate off the table if you give them enough time to do so. Always combine pressure with your disruption.
Sorcerous Spyglass is relivant against UW Control and Tron. Being able to name troublesome perminants like o-stone, ugin / karn / teferi, and colonnade. It can be replaced by Pithing Needle but Ive found the hand information is extremely relivant in those matchups.
Remorseful Cleric is a good piece of disruption on a 2/1 flying body. I tend to board them in against Storm, Tron, and UW Control.
Gideon of the Trials is an allstar against burn but is also a quick clock in the matches where we really need quick pressure. I've boarded them in against burn, tron, and storm in the past.
If you have enough sideboard slots remaining and know what decks to sideboard for in your local metagame you can add targeted hate cards that are silver bullets for the matchups your hoping to beat. The downside is that while they can be extremely powerful in any one matchup, they'll be next to useless in most others.
UW Emeria can generate card advantage which is good against UW control. It's got mainboard lifegain and land destruction packages, which can be good against burn and tron. However it's clock is abysmal, this is what makes our combo match almost unwinnable game one and is how you will lose some amount of time to tron and burn.
I wouldn't play less than four Charming Prince as it's extremely multi purpose. It can generate card advantage against uw control, gain 3 life against burn, and scy 2 when digging for a piece of disruption against storm or tron.
I'm unsure if you want to play the Ranger-Captain of Eos package or the old Spreading Seas package. Seas is better on the draw against tron, is budget friendly and allows for 4 - 5 extra slots in the mainboard. RCoE is great on the play against every deck you mentioned but is expensive and eats up a lot of slots. It does synergize more with Charming Prince though.
Regarding the G/W version I have some suggestions: Knight of Autumn is one of the best additions in Green and I'd play it over KotR in the maindeck and even add a 4th one.
It can also free up SB slots as it replaces Qasali Pridemage and Blessed Alliance (lifegain) as well.
You probably need some more maindeck interaction (over some of the creatures and maybe a land) so I's suggest adding 3x Generous Gift or Banishing Light to the maindeck and leaving Dromoka's Command out as it is better in decks with bigger creatures.
That makes sense but must still lead to some awkward draws. You definitely don't want to be cut off of d-sphere, verdict, or countermagic though. Those are some of the best cards in matchup. You could also up your fetch land count to play around stone rains by not cracking until you need to cast something. Prismatic Vista should probably be your fetch of choice, after Flooded Strand, if you have a ponza player in your meta.
thanks for the tips. The match up can be easy to hard depending on what threats my opponent get's out into the field. It becomes bad when he get's out a Stormbreath Dragon, because the dragon is immune to all our removal except for board wipe. And he can fetch the dragon with primal command.
Yeah, SD is nasty but luckily our wrath effects can still tag it. The match has a lot of varience to it due to the design of the ponza deck. However if we have a good hand we can beat our opponents best draw.
I remember a match against ponza where they where on the play, had acid moss turn two, then cast inferno titan on three and a stormbreath on four. I won that game because they proceeded to draw into three pieces of land / ramp and I was able to catch back up with PtE and ***.
Anyway, will be updating the primer with charming prince and whatever other new useful cards we got from Eld. I'm just waiting for more testing results to show up.
Two islands? I'm intested in the reasoning behind that. If it's to play around blood moon, wouldn't prismatic vista be better?
@coffieortea
Golos sounds interesting, kinda reminds me of sad robot with better stats. Keep us updated!

Yup that'd be me! Were you looking for that list or a budget build?

Keep in mind that by going mono white you're losing access to powerful azorious spells like Dovin's Veto, Detention Sphere, and Supreme Verdict.
Can you post your most recent list??

Match 2 was tron and I won 2-0. The match-up with this deck feels much better even pre- sideboard. Between the force of negation, venser, shaper savant to bounce lands, and the biggest train of walue with watcher for tomorrow, ephemerate and soulherder, e felt like I always had the cards I needed to win.
Match 3 was scapeshift and I also won 2-0. In the SB Collector Ouphe is a good option as the creature version of Stony Silence.
Vivien Reid is a good utility PW which can also generate card advantage so I'd probably slot it over the 2nd copy of Elspeth.
Nissa, Vital Force isn't too bad either.
I generally prefer Remorseful Cleric to Tormod's Crypt as GY-hate.
You probably need some more maindeck interaction (over some of the creatures and maybe a land) so I's suggest adding 3x Generous Gift or Banishing Light to the maindeck and leaving Dromoka's Command out as it is better in decks with bigger creatures.
The deck seems a bit heavy on the 3-drops so I'd suggest choosing either Tireless Tracker or Renegade Rallier but not both and add some cheaper cards like Oath of Nissa which is a great cantrip and works well with Flickerwisp and Sun Titan/Renegade Rallier.
it's a meta call. There's a RG ponza player over here. The second island is added so that I don't get cut from blue mana too quickly.
